Does anyone have an alphabetical listing of all the ships, their race, and type? For example:
Ship Race Type ---- ---- ---- Drake Caldari Battlecruiser Obelisk Gallente Freighter Raven Caldari Battleship
I ask because I'm new to the game when I'm in various fleet ops, people will call out various ship namesin ventrillo and I often don't have the time to lookup the info in-game. It would be easier if I could just consult a hard-copy sitting next to me. I could create my own, but that would be silly if such a resource already existed. Thanks!

Modify your overview to include ship names. No need to know anything else if this is just for fleet ops purposes.

To do this: open the overview settings, click the "columns" tab, and tick the "Type" box. Then change the column width so you can see the new column.

Edited by: Solock on 21/04/2008 15:55:08 Edited by: Solock on 21/04/2008 15:54:21 I'm explaining this badly. Let me illustrate with an example.
Scout on ventrillo: "Just jumped into XYZ system. There are 5 in local. I'm scanning a falcon and nighthawk by the ABC gate."
At this point they aren't in my overview. What I'd like to be able to do is pick up the paper next to my PC, scan down the list until I see a falcon and nighthawk, and instantly know that he's talking about a Caldari recon ship and command ship.
Right now, I have to open the market, type in "falcon", then hit the show info button. Then do the same for the nighthawk. I'm hoping for something faster.

It may take some time, but you could add each ship to your quick bar, in the market window. Then when you want to check a ship, you just click on the name and select to get information on it on the screen. Should be much faster way to access the information once you have loaded the ship names. Hopefully there is not a restriction on the amount of items you can have in the quick bar!

tbh, when you are flying in fleet ops, you should only worry about listening to your FC and shooting what he tells you to shoot etc.
On the other hand, it is useful to know what you are up against, and that is where this comes in. If you run in windowed mode or have another PC/laptop to hand, you can use www.eve-wiki.net's ship database to look up the ship. Every ship page has a table at the bottom showing every other ship in the game.

TBQH - couldn't you just create your own? The problem doesn't seem to be that the market lookup method isn't working, just that it's a bit too slow in the heat of the moment. If you open the market window, and browse from "Ships" downwards, you'll see every ship in the game, already organised into its respective category. From there you can copy that into whatever format, in whatever order you like.
Also, by doing this yourself you will be more involved with the work, and will probably remember individual ships better. If someone just gives you a .txt file, you won't have done any of this preparatory work.
What I found helped with learning ships was that every time I saw a ship name referenced (on the forums, in local, etc.) I would try to remember what race and class it was, and what its "thing" was. If I couldn't, then I'd fall back to the market/EVEMon to look it up. IIRC by the time I was a month old I knew most ships by name; a month is a lot of time really for learning something of this nature.

As a new pilot, this is also something on which I'm working (connecting ship names with types and roles). I've thought about generating this for my own use and including it in my map folder I keep on my desk for operations.
Generating it yourself does seem that it would be far more likely to succeed. This is for the same reason that taking your own notes in class allows for better information retention than studying someone else's.

in EVEmon's ship browser you type "A" in the search field.. bam.. alphabetical listing and all the info about the ships you need.. that way you can pretty much make the list yourself =) ________

TBH, unless you plan on learning your list parrot-fashion, the easiest way to find out what sorts of ships are what is through experience. I quite often skim through the ship categories at market while I'm bored and travelling through highsec on autopilot. A lot of the time, I see a neat-looking ship fly past, think "What the **** is that?" and pull up the info on it to have a look at what people are flying. Like anything else, familiarity comes more easily from experience.

Hi, I donŠt know of such a list, but one trick is when seeing a ship on scan or the overview, you right-click on it there and you will get an option saying something like "remove battleship from overview". Of course you donŠt actually remove it, but itŠs one step towards figuring out ship types quickly.

The filter page on Battleclinic in the 'ship loadouts' section has every ship in the game listed A-Z. However race or ship type isn't included :(
Battleclinic Homepage
Not exactly what your looking for I know, but it's a start - I agree it can be a useful way to memorize ships quicker than just through experience, when I move to a new region I do the same sort of thing with 2D eve maps, print off a hard copy for quick reference.
Hope it helps
