The only thing Wow currently offer is stuff. Get stuff to get access to better stuff, which in turn will allow you to have ever better stuff.
And their paper/rock/cutter class balancing is just horrible. |

As i havent really played wow, i can only say what would make me consider starting on wow.
Points are basicly make it more like eve.
1. Looting corpses. When you die, the killer should get your stuff, and you should lose it.
2. Player controlled areas where perks are greater than non controllable areas. Yes there should be a safehaven, even on pvp servers, though i should not be larger than 50% of the map. All good instances should be in playercontrolled areas. This would make wars and fights more meaningless, as there is a carot to fight for.

FFA WoW won't work at this stage. PvP in WoW in a group setting really isn't that bad but they avoided it. At the beginning we tried a roving gang but even the other xp'd group quit. WoW will forever be a grindfest.

Wow is pretty pointless unless you are the top .0001% of progression guilds. If you are that you aren't reading this post because every waking hour is spent thing about l33t strats to get A WORLD FIRST KILL.
My wow sub is still active, but I really only log in once a week or so to play arena with my friends.
Just waiting for a decent MMO to come out and I'll probably quit eve and wow. Sadly, decent MMOs seem to be in short supply.

IMO They need to put up a decent market system, not just that auction house thing.
If you want nice stuff then you need to join raids because theres no other way to get it since its "soulbound"
All the professions are quite worthless cause the best gear isn't buildable.
+ The grind...omg the grind... I can't get past lvl 42 , I just get too bored cause they don't have enough quests and you're forced to just go to a random place and kill ever-respawning mobs.
On the topic of mobs wth do they do all day? They all just stand around. I'd much rather see them foraging for food or something so you can pick off the ones that stray too far instead of just going in and killing their buddies just outside their agro range (5 meters or soemthing)

Darkfall has an evolving world. If you kill a dragon in his cave, it doesn't respawn magically while your waiting for it. A group of 25 goblins (the fantasy type, not the wow-bomb hat wielding ones) might sit into the cave and take up their daily business.
Perchance a group of 30 goblin nomads run around and join the group of 25, now there's a clan of 55 happy goblins and behold... their next evolution stage was 50. Now there's a 10% chance every hour for a goblin hero to spawn, if that happens, there's a 15% chance every hour they build and outpost and start spawning meanier goblins who start raiding the outlaying settlements untill a group of adventures (such as yourself) deal with them.
Darkfall is alive and kicking and i can't wait for it to go online somewhere in 2008 (latest information)

Originally by: Corstaad Day one vet mmorg players figured out what kinda game it was. Its a never ending gear grind with bad pvp. Vets left shortly after that. You along with other people are slowly learning this because your now a vet. Good thing WoW did was bring a load of newer people to mmorgs. Bad thing is we'll have to live with WoW comparisons for awhile.
So you're saying WoW is the AOL of MMOs?

I really enjoyed WoW after my interest in Eve waned in years passed. I remember Eve in the days when our Kestrels would fire torps near a stargate resulting in swift CONCORDing...manufacture and research were straightforward, you could dabble in this and that...then it got so complicated that I couldn't figure it out anymore (and I became a victim of my in-game success). WoW has a simple, user friendly crafting system, tonnes of ways to customise your unique character (appearance, armour/equipment, mount, skill paths, professsions, etc) and the team play was as fun as Eve in PvE. I've never PvP'd in Eve because of the cost/risk (although I'm thinking of having a go now as there's not much else left to do in the game!) whereas in WoW I had tremendous fun in the various instances.
Without the risk of losing your hard earned whatnots, I enjoyed playing against other players, different strategies, player skill and the team work, etc....like I used to love in the original Unreal Tournament (instagib domination rox0red). Also, you are rewarded with 'honour points' for PvPing, as an incentive to take part. However I can see the beauty of Eve's system and don't begrudge the game that.
I just (used to) prefer to do what I do without fear of attack for no reason hence why I generally shun world PvP servers in sharded games. However Eve does have some things that truly set it apart from other MMOs in ways they can't come close to matching. The Eve market/economy is the best in any MMO bar none, the skill system (tho not perfect) eliminates the grind of other games (but is a big deterant to newbies) and the ship fittings/modules system that allows ships to serve different purposes is great (not as much now as it used to be)...in other games a priest is a priest, a warrior a warrior, etc.
I think there is a place for both games and if I'm honest I think I had more fun in WoW than Eve since it went insanely complicated (around RMR time IIRC) to the point even I (who used to live, sleep and breath the numbers) couldn't handle it. I left WoW tho because of a stupid bug with a quest. Spent 2-3 hrs doing an Outlands instance with friends and we all took an 'escort' quest together, cleared the dungeon together and completed the mission together. For everyone in the party the quest completed, except for me. I submitted a ticket to the GMs and instead of them responding that they would help me and update the journal so it was marked "completed" as it should have been, they said they couldn't (wouldn't?) do anything and suggested I abandon it and do it again. I advised them that hell would freeze over and my account would be cancelled before I repeated it, they apologised and so did I before cancelling the account.
I miss the game and the good friends I made on there, tho a good community can be found in most online games and is the main reason we play them. I had a lot of fun with it, I miss killing orcses in AV, but I stopped playing at the point where most lvl 70 characters would begin the end-game 'grind'. My NE druid is still on there and I'm sorta tempted to give WotLK a look, but am inclined towards not. If they had fixed my stupid bug back then, I would still be a happy customer (probably with another lvl 70 character or two by now!) but if any place treats a customer that way, they don't deserve their repeat custom. -------------

I like seeing the new zones and the accompanying music/populace but I will never waste my time raiding again. With the new expansion (after things calm down) I plan to enjoy leveling to 80 and then clicking uninstall the second after I hit 80 ;).

I'm more interested in the community. From what I hear, once you leave WoW you get forgotten within days as far as your guild goes. You may still keep in touch with individual friends, but your guild as an entity and naturally the wider community simply forgets you. After all one priest can do the same as another priest.
But in EVE peple do make a difference. People still miss DarkElf and when names like "Hippoking" or "Dark Shikari" are mentioned, people still remember them, even though they've been quiet for a while.
And as far as I can tell, the community is so close mainly because of the win-or-lose-all way EVE operates. Stakes are higher so people bond closer.

Edited by: Highwind Cid on 11/07/2008 16:30:14 I'm glad WoW is slowing down. After all it has to get to people at one point or another. WoW is equal to really bad but popular song. Its nothing more than a fad, nothing less. And now its taking the typical nosedive most fads go through. Of course WotLK is coming out to freshen things a bit maybe(don't know, don't play but know people who do play). But in reality its just another Raid/quest to do. I had my PvE fun in D2 which is why I never involved myself in WoW. But I've taken a long time off since then and am ready to try WAR and definitely going to buy D3.
