Really, worst. HAC. Ever.
First it's slow, so you can't really get into optimal as fast as you need.
Secondly, no drones. If a frigate comes in close and warp scrams you even with javelin you're not hitting ****, and if you don't have a web then sit tight, and wait for him to call in friends because you're a gonner.
Third, horrible, horrible dps. Really I understand the whole "support" role as a sniper, but if you take the time to train to an eagle, then all the support skills to utilize railguns to their full potential, you'd hope you would at least be able to take out BS. This is something I'm half and half about because I understand the reasoning of having a support ship not be able to solo, but I also really wish I could solo after training so many skills yet still do **** damage.
My rant really boils down to Eagle needs a drone bay. The cerb has no drone bay, but it can also fit missles that can take out drones/frigs without sacrificing it's mid range-long range dps.
Meh I doubt ccp will add a drone bay but I wonder if others (the small few who actually use this pos) share my thoughts. --- |

You can get to 180km optimal on the thing, doesn't really involve moving. It's a sniper. it takes out just about any frigate in 15 seconds tops (AF's and high transversal targets might be an exception) and cruisers can be forced to warp off easy.
It's the single best support sniper in any major fleet engagement.

Edited by: AdamHernandez on 23/04/2008 11:34:46 Edited by: AdamHernandez on 23/04/2008 11:34:27 I wouldn't exclude the rokh ( as the best support sniper)...I can set the eagle up so i can hit out at 150, and 10 if needed with javelin. The thing is a frig gets too close and you're screwed if he's got a scram. You can't reliably use the ship in a lvl3 much less 4 mission. I just see something wrong with that when my ferox (which can hit about 120k and is capable of using drones) takes less time to skill, can hold up a matching tank, and cost less.
edit: also trolls are awesome! |

double edit: thanks for the setup, that adds an extra 30k to my range and a bit more dps...But I still think the eagle would be a nice mission solo ship if it just had drones.
Well that's an entirely different ballpark. The Eagle isn't meant for missions.
Having said that, a beagle may be an answer there. With blaster IIs and Null ammo, an Eagle can hit out to 15km with better tracking than rails. Been a while since I did a lvl 3 mission, but iirc, most rats will come close to 15km anyway.
Lvl 4's I wouldn't try. But then, most HACs will have problems in lvl 4's.

Dude, it's an eagle...your optimal is EVERYWHERE.
Originally by: AdamHernandez you'd hope you would at least be able to take out BS.
lolwhat? In a strait up slugfest no HAC can kill a decently skilled PvP fit BS. Now a nanoHAC might be able to very slowly kill one, but even then one heavy neut and overheated MWD+web and it's all over. RMR <---- that way. Nowadays I'd say you're lucky to kill a battlecruiser in a non-speedtanked HAC. Obviously we're assuming competence on the part of the other pilot, and some exceptions can be made for EWar which can turn the tide of any battle. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

lol.. this OP really shows why soo much stuff get nerfed in this game... ppl dont have the slightest clue how to fit and use a ship and then come and whine instead of asking for help :(
optimal is NOT a problem on a eagle :P
and useing t2 close range rail ammo to track stuff... haaha :P
250mm rails, whatever
few tracking comps and sensorboosters mag stabs and whatever needed to fit
great support sinper.
PS: rokh is not a support sinper... it can do that but its mainly main dps sniper :) ---------------------------------- Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

Man... what?
You do realize that it's a sniper, and that its optimal can be described as Awesome(tm), right? If you have to move to get into optimal range with an Eagle, something is seriously wrong. Probably between keyboard and chair, at your end.

5x 250mm Rail II
2x Tracking Computer II 3x Sensor Booster II (2x range scripts, 1 no script)
3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer Reactor Control Unit II
2x Hybrid Locus Coordinator
If you can lock it (249km) you can hit it (251+15km).
Javelins have the WORST tracking - NEVER use them - if you must go short range/high damage, go with antimatter - better range AND tracking.
Never solo a sniping ship - its meant to support and be supported. If a fast/close range ship gets to you - and you haven't already warped off, or had support remove it, you deserve to die. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! I think the OP was trying to use an eagle in missions. I don't think he knows that support sniper role usually meant pvp.
He had trouble getting into optimal with a Beagle and couldn't scratch a NPC BS with a sniper fit ;) This is where he thought a well trained HAC should be at least take out a NPC BS.
While everybody else thought he was talking about PvP, because nobody is stupid enough to use an eagle in mission when they can also fly the Cerberus... unless they hate missiles and like the challenge :)

The Eagle has a role, its not the MOST useful role but is needed, and the Eagle does it well. --

Im surprised it hasn't already been said... unless you get ninja ****** by something uncloaking, a frigate / inty / nano ship shouldn't catch you.
Ideally, you're at 160 to 200+ Kms from target in a preorganized spot. And ALIGNED to something (SS, planet, POS, station, pick one). Sniper BS with drone bay is just as screwed if an inty tackles him...enemy fleet is still coming. Princple of the idea doesnt change on ship size.
Also, WTB BS killing sniper eagle.

ROFL What gave you the idea to try hitting frigs with javelin ammo???? Javelin messes up your tracking by -25%, making it the WORST choice you could have taken!

Ok, that would explain it. Yeah, the Eagle isn't the best choice for missioning. I'm sure it *can* work, but it's far from ideal.

Dear god.
Best sniping cruiser in the game = Eagle.
As an added bonus, there is a pretty cheap setup that just punches holes all over Vagabonds and indeed most other nanoships.
Personally, my choice for worst HAC ever goes to the Muninn. |
