earlier this week one of my corp members was in the wrong place at the wrong time, (it happens and is part of the game).
what really annoys me is the fact that "Mist3r Evil" ransomed him off and still blew up his ship after he payed the ransom. (we have the isk transfer and the KM as proof).
In the whole time ive played this game i was told it was Dis-honourable to kill after a ransom is paid.
it just makes me think whats the point in ransom's if your just gonna get killed anyway.

Well,
as soon as you receive a ransom proposal, you have two options:
a) don't pay... you can be sure you will be killed b) pay... you have a chance that he will let you go
Pirates that don't honor a ransom are being frowned upon but there's not much that other people can do about that. If you are sure the pirate will not honor the ransom, don't pay up. If you might think he'll let you go, you can pay and take the risk.
Now, on the other hand, if your corpmember got caught and proposed some money himself to be let go, this is not always seen as a ransom by the pirates. Most pirates see this as: oh lala, he's carrying good stuff.

I totaly agree with you Agor.
their is no sure way of knowing if a pirate will honour the ransom or not.
what i do understand is that nost pvp/pirate corps dont like this sort of thing and i was attempting to name and shame the player responcible for not honouring the ransom rules so to speak.
my personal ideals is to go down fighting all the way and if i lose my ship/pod then so be it.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 26/04/2008 09:33:11 As stated above there's some differences when it comes to how/why isk is paid.
- pirate scrambles and damages the target, opens convo and asks for an amount. The exact amount is paid within the set timeframe
- pirate scrambles and starts to kill the target, target asks to be ransomed, pirate accepts a ransom, states the amount. The exact amount is paid within the set timeframe
- pirate attacks target, target goes "I've got 3 million!" and instantly sends the money before the pirate agrees to any ransom
If what happened is either the first or second scenario contact the CEO of the pirate's corp, if you look at corp info there's a list of contacts. Try to work it out.
If the second happened (and tbh, that happens a lot) the pirate is under no 'obligation' to accept the ransom as there wasn't any ransom to begin with, the target chose to give the pirate extra cash at his own accord.

For clarity, I think Tzar meant to say
Quote: If the third happened (and tbh, that happens a lot) the pirate is under no 'obligation' to accept the ransom as there wasn't any ransom to begin with, the target chose to give the pirate extra cash at his own accord.
In any event, the pilot you named is a member of the united, which I believe is a part of Sex Panthers alliance. I don't know if they have an official policy regarding ransoms, but as Tzar said above, look at the show info for the corp and the alliance and see who you might be able to talk to about it.
That said, if the united and/or Sex Panthers DO have an official policy, they should reply here before too long - word travels quickly around C&P.

A lot of the more well known pirate corps will have a policy in effect, and "should" (don't quote me here) either refund the ransom and punish or kick the pirate from their corp.
There have been a few dishonored ransom threads recently... kinda disappointing. ------------

Proof or stfu. We honor ransoms, it would be stupid not to. If you have proof, why are you not posting it here? Screenshots please.
Even when we accidentally blow people up after they pay we give the ISK back, so more than likely your "friend" is just an idiot.

Edited by: Katie Door on 27/04/2008 22:50:26 nice try indeed. Ask your corpie for a screenshot of his wallet and u'll see he had his ransom refunded, plus an additional 50% of the ransom he initially paid. Also tell your corpie it is considered smart to not tell the guys (with lots of guns) that are holding him ransom "now frack off".
In mister evil's defense, he was under the influence "somewhat". he therefore took the "now frack off" as being unwilling to pay said ransom. He didn't check his wallet.
proof or STFU, we honor our ransoms

Edited by: Tiberius Arcan on 27/04/2008 23:50:46 When I was with the united we always honoured Ransoms and I doubt anything has changed - in the cases where the target/victim paid a portion or not the asked amount, it was always refunded to the person.
As in earlier posts, Im sure your '' friend '' was returned the ISK and told to go on his merry way, so the smear campaign is quite pointless - the united has a good and solid reputation for honouring ransoms. Show some proof of this alleged dishonourable act or shut up.

Just because you pay a ransom it doesn't give you the right to be rude.

Pfft, If you tried to hold me ransom, a) I wouldn't pay, and b) I would most defiantly not be polite to you. A pirate whining about hostile feedback? Hmph, I would tell that pirate, whoever he / she may be, to go suck a rock and get over it. Thats what you get for being just another filthy rat ^_^
I have yet to be held for ransom, but if anyone reads this and wants to try, you might as well come at me for the kill because I will take you out or die trying ^_^

Honestly my offering of ransoms is pretty sloppy. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I only ask once, and if they say no I just close convo and obliterate em. No skin off my nose. Do what you want, I know I do. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |
