I got maxed skills in gunnery and drones, but i'm new to missions. I'd like to know to someone who tried 'em both wich one is better to solo lvl4 missions. (Fit is not required here, but it's welcome if you wish ;)
Thank you.

Navy Mega might struggle against certain rat types due to damage type. Dominix will be able to handle any l4 thrown at it.

You will also need strong engineering and mechanic skills. Otherwise your tank is mush. |

I find Megas to be more fun, but Domis to be more effective :) How's that? |

I have used both - they are both extremely effective. I find the Navy Megathron more fun, but the Dominix is easier to use. ------------

i thought about it too, but find it quiet expensive, to me at least what can you tell me about it? is it fast doing missions? and how many time would it require to repay the investment :P

about 10-25mil an hour in missions, depending how fast you are (i only get bounties). That doesn't include LP rewards though.

After I switched from domi to kronos it took me maybe a month to make back the 1.5 bil or so that I spent (hull + rigs + new implants + fittings), but not all of that was from missions, and you can fit it cheaper than I did, especially if you can use T2 large rails. I highly recommend a domination (or officer) web though.
If you don't currently salvage/loot, you will be able to do so concurrently with the 3 utility high slots and tractor bonus, which ups your isk/hr rate even more (I typically only have frigate wrecks left by the time I finish killing a room)
The easiest/best missions for the Kronos are BS heavy (Recon, WC, Blockade, etc), since smaller ships typically either have to be webbed or droned to be killed.
It takes me under 30 min to do both rooms of recon 1/3 (usually 1 bounty deposit per room, all wrecks looted and salvaged in that time as well) which works out to about 17 mil off the top of my head, not counting LP, loot or salvage.
Personally, the only reason I'd use a T1 BS over a Kronos for missions is if I were in low sec/0.0.

I used a dominix in L4's for over a year. Heavies and a dual LAR tank rule for afk mission running, but it isn't that fast. I think a sentry domi would work pretty well, but I haven't gotten around to trying one (haven't trained T2 sentries). It doesn't seem so much an afk boat though.
I highly recommend the kronos. I was amazed how much faster I could go through missions when I got one. Webbing a spider drone down to 4 m/s and killing it with two shots just feels good. |

I have a sentry sniper domi. It's best for non auto aggro missions, sort of a specialist. But it chews up rats really fast.

get a domi, tank it up to the eye balls, get the hang of missions then choose a faster route (less tank on the domi, or a gun boat of your choice). i always prefer to go tank heavy when learning then shrug some tank off for more damage later.
the kronos will probably win the speed race, even if its only in the salvaging. those three 40km tractor beams can quickly make a nice ball of wreaks for you to return and salvage with a battlecruiser. the kronos also makes using t2 ammo twice as cheap (more speed there if you want it). and if your nuts its the most viable blaster boat for soloing lvl4's. fittings on the kronos are easier too because it has half the guns to try and power. all in all its got a lot of advantages for missioning and for me at least is the best tool for the job. wouldn't the tank on the navy mega be better than the kronos tank? Seems like that would make it a better mission boat.

my abaddon has a much better thank than my kronos as i deliberately went tank heavy on it to learn the missions. however my kronos, with blaster, has been a ton of fun in the lvl4's. using blasters always puts a lot more stress on the tank as a lot of rats get to hit you before you can hit them, which is the opposite to using rails.
so the important factor here is does the kronos have enough tank? and yes it does, especially if you are out at range with rail guns. so your left with looking at which ship can kick out the most damage. to be honest i've not done that comparison with rails as the navy thron didnt seem to be as good for blastering and thats when i stopped looking.
but the domi is, comparatively, dirt cheap and can kick out an insane tank, perfect fire ship to learn the missions with. then its time to either gank out the domi or grab another ship to crunch the missions faster. I have both ships.
I use 350mm IIs on Navy mega and Large T2 drones on Domi (dual rep).
The mega kills missions faster but i have trouble with some angel missions (explosive damage) and need to warp out.
Conclusion: Mega will do all missions but its higher risk than domi. Much more fun - the domi is boring but safe. Who's the rudest of them all! |
