L4 mission runner in minnie space
I need some advice. I am normally a Golem pilot but have cross trained to minnie BS. I am flying a Mael with 1400's and find that using T2 ammo its either good close so under 25km or over 100km. Please , I am happy to admit, that I am still very confused with falloff and definitely ammo types. What can I do for ships in the 60-80km mark? Different guns, different ammo?
Or is the mael the wrong ship for L4? Keep in mind that any minnie ship must be shield tanked if advising a fit.

Personally, I prefer using ACs over Arty in the Mael, since most missions seem to dump you in pretty much right on top of the NPCs anyways. Especially if you have access to T2 large guns, since Barrage can give some pretty crazy falloff ranges.
Here's the fit I've used in the rare occasions that I feel like running a mission (it's overtanked, but it seems to work just fine for a med-SP cheap fit): [Maelstrom, Mission Mael ACs] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Power Diagnostic System II Damage Control II
X-Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier I Invulnerability Field II Explosion Dampening Field II Invulnerability Field II Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range
800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L 800mm Heavy Prototype Repeating Siege Cannon, Fusion L

If you want to stick to Arty, then using faction ammo (RF Fusion likely) might be a better bet, T2 projectile ammo is fairly different from T2 missile ammo. (IIRC switching to T2 guns will require using a faction/DED shield booster for CPU use, but I know that T1 1400mms will fit on there with no changes at all)

It not only has a bunch of Mael fits (and a bunch of requisite pissing matches about which is better) but also explains 800s vs. 1200s vs. 1400s fairly well. Plus ammunition choices. |

For angel space you want 800mm because NPCs always land on top of you
8x 800mm Auto II
x-large shield booster II Invuln II Invuln II Heavy Capacitor Booster II - Cap Booster 800 100mn Afterburner II Tracking Computer II - Optimal Range
3x Gyrostab II 2x Tracking Enhancer II
For rigs, mix in Core defence operational solidiers and capacitor safeguards depending on taste/skills
Replace Invulns for specific harderners for harder missions, has way enough tank for every missions unless you cant manage triggers.
Also, buy yourself a Machariel if you can fly a Maelstrom because a Mach is just way better. |

after the Mael, the goal is to go the Vargur over the Mach as I already have Marauder 5 and seems silly to train Gall bs 5 when i can fly marauders. |

If you want to fly the Vargur over the Mach, it's because you want an easier tank, a cheaper ship, and aren't serious (OCD) about blitzing missions.

1200's also work on a Mael as well, but since most Angel BSs will be in close, T2 800's will def be the way to go, just stock up on Barrage for them, and Hail for the close range ones.

What range/DPS would be best minimum for a missioning mael? Want to try one but my gunnery is horrible. |

a bit expensive, however it can easily reach 800 dps with 40km optimal + falloff. It is also cap stable with a 671 dps tank versus angel cartel. Which is way more than enough for every mission I have encountered.
The expensive portion of this ship is the shield. You can achieve the stats above with level 4 skills in shield with level 5 in rank 1's. rank 4 gunnery with the exception of level 5's for tech 2. It is an excellent pve ship and I highly recommend it. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" Enter a Heroic Era Today |

Thats pretty much it. I Only trained Gal bs to 3 and have around a 55k falloff running 800's. I just switched from the mael to the mach and I was very happy with how much faster I was running missions. |

will get 40 km falloff on top of the rather low optimal propably. anyway the ac mael is ok, although quite frustrating because of its low falloff and therefore often low damage. learn where the rats like to orbit and fit accordingly. though in general you will meet Angel/serpentis in minnie space so i would in general say ac's vs. angels and arties vs. serpentis
