A new EVE Chronicle has been added to the World of EVE website:
"Climbing into the pod and fastening himself, Shan reflected on the current state of affairs. Ever since the Alliance had been born, the smattering of independent outfits morphing and mutating into the massive, brutal beast it was today, things just hadnÆt been the same in Curse. The Salvies had been the first to complain, of course û you couldnÆt fart in Curse space without the Salvies getting up in arms about it û but within a month it had become clear that this new coalition was nothing to be taken lightly. Squadron after squadron of Cartel fighters had fallen to Alliance battleships as their prized æroid fields were slowly wrested from their grasp."

Utter coolness.
And so begins a new chapter in EVE, where the actions of players are reflected in Prime Fiction. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

This was great. Making real Eve events into these short stories deepens the game. Good job !

Ah, the first favoritism accusation. I'm impressed we made it this far down the thread without one.
The answer is, nothing. No one in BO, BOS, or the entire CA, for that matter, had any advance warning they would be put in that story. No lobbyism, no favoritism, no back-scratching, no pie, no frilly laces, no one-year-subscription to Tool World. For this first piece we wanted to highlight player factions who have a certain amount of notoriety, and the CA (and BOS) fit the bill nicely. That's all there is to it. BOS are probably as surprised as you are.
The CA won't be the only ones getting some story lovin'. We are looking at a system where we will contact player corporations and alliances at regular intervals and run profiles or stories on something that's been going on in their circles. We're also going to be moving towards integrating news coverage of player alliances with news coverage of the four empires and other NPC factions, and taking steps towards intertwining the two in the prime fiction canon. When the system's finalized you can look for us to make official announcements to that effect, after which the ball should get rolling for real. This is just the beginning.
So don't worry, Rix. You guys should get your fifteen as well. |

What do the DEVs think of a project such as Saga 1 now that they are putting focus on actual players?

Personally, I think it's a great idea, and something that's been needed for a while now. From your post in the Saga 1 thread:
Originally by: Riddari I'm pretty sure the amount of storyline within those alliances (and other player entities, not excluding the Amarr/Minmatar and Gallente/Caldari rp for example) is a serious contender against the CCP guided storyline.
Ideally, the ultimate goal would be to make these two storylines into one and the same, so there would be no contention, no "This is what's going on in the CCP storyline and this is what's going on in the real game itself" division. It's going to take some changes, but it's what we want to strive for. Great initative, Riddari. I'll see what we can do to participate.
Ronyo Dae'Loki, fairly recently. And thanks.

Hey Gnauton, that was an excellent bit of storrytelling. Your future plans also sound cool, and rather inviting. :)
I'm curious if you're going to go about at random and grab information for stories like this, if you're going to concentrate on larger player concentrations (such as large pirate corps & alliances) or if you'll look for smaller groups as well, or try to get emergent information, things of that nature... I'm also curious if you'll take requests or simply pick at random...
Sorry, don't mean to get too inquisitive, but such is the nature of the great Player Base Beast... ;)

This chronical is sad.
Alliances are a part of Eve, they're inevitable and here to stay. I'll not deny that. They up the polictics part of Eve.
But its a whole nuther thing for CCP to kiss up to them. (this chronicle is a poor excuse at explaining the fact that their galaxy setup is irrelevant and totally ignored by players.)

It kind of reminds me of that amusing post about intercepted Serpentis ship logs.
Can't see the problem with it being about an alliance. Not just alliances have been highlighted:
Alliance - Stain was included in the Year 105 overview and that's because they were VERY involved in the way Eve has developed over that period.
Corporation - m0o were mentioned in the Year 105 overview
Individuals - Those involved in the Amarr Succession were mentioned in stories and the Year 105 overview.
Curse Alliance, loathe them or hate them, are the premiere alliance and as such deserve a mention in the game histories.
What I want to know is this:
If Angel Raiders are aware of CA dominating their territory, why are their stations accepting their docking requests?
If you're going to involve NPC's/PC's, you can't go halfway. It has to be full on interaction.
Same goes for any alliance/corporation.

That was a truely Great suprise, for my Alliance to be featured in one of the Eve chronicles, which i very much enjoy reading. Kudos CCP, and Dev team.
But I think you've got your work cut out for you if you want CCP's storyline, and the ingame happenings to coincide.
But still, it was an excellent read, and has revamped my beleif that Eve's RP side can come farther then the non-interactive news speels.

Supposedly, faction standings will start to play a much bigger part in what you can and cannot do at NPC stations. I imagine they are not implimenting it yet, as a majority of players would be negative to pirate factions, and locking them out of stations would simply make 0.0 useless.
I would imagine with Shiva and player-deployable structures, they will be able to ramp up the affects of standings. Logically, if we're going to establish our own "nations" in 0.0 space, we should be building our own facilities, not using someone elses.
I agree that it would make alot of sense for us to be completely locked out of Pirate controlled stations, but with no alternative, it would be gamebreaking. It's not like positive Angel Cartel standing makes the rat spawns stop shooting at you or anything. (which logically, it would)
