Hi there. Hope this is a relevant question on this forum. sorry if not.
Trade routes/planning pickup points. I have set up multiple buy orders, at multiple distances from my station (2 - 10 jumps plus) and am getting plenty of smallish returns on what I am buying. When it comes to picking up from multiple stations is there some kind of route planner software, where I can input the stations I have stuff and it works out an optimised route for me to pick up all the items?
ie i put in all the stations I have items at, the planner works out a route directing me the quickest way to incorporate all these stations.
At the moment I just go by my assets bar, looking at jump distance between this and my next jump. But I can zig zag across space!!
Thanks Soul

1) Add Waypoint to each system you want to go 2) Open Ingame Map 3) Go to the "Autopilot" Tab on the world map control panel. 4) Press the "Optimise" button.
This forum is more for discussion about the market and events so questions of this nature should really go in the new player question forum.

This only works well if you keep under 10 waypoints. Go over that and it starts to become a pain in the ass. Originally by: SoulStealer1968 At the moment I just go by my assets bar, looking at jump distance between this and my next jump. But I can zig zag across space!!
Well, for myself in this situation, I open the map and actually watch the route being created. (Also change the star coloring to "your assets" or "deliveries" as appropriate to make things a bit easier.) This way I just quickly and visually adjust my route by eye. And, since you might be headed to "optimize" (which I never use!) try this method first. With practice, it is much faster than optimize could hope to be. I don't know of any tool that you can use to create optimal pathing. In fact I think any out of game tool would be cumbersome as you wind up typing all the waypoints into the oog application and then again back into the game. Just easier to do it by eye, imho. I, obviously, disagree. While discussion of map basics and autopilot might be more suited to the New Player's Forums there is no hard rule when it intersects with the Market or a Trader player.

I, obviously, disagree. [justify]

Many a day. However take any thread and you'll generally have two sides being demonstrated inside it. Being human I pick one side and express some thoughts on it or I agree with something someone else says and add a few of my own thoughts. Without fail, and without animus on my part, there will be someone expressing a differing and dissenting view. So it is not noteworthy that I agree or disagree with someone. It would be noteworthy if there was no one, absolutely no one, that dissents in a given thread at all. PS: Besides, I can not express agreement very often anymore. Against the rules to "/signed".

Thanks very much for those that replied, really appreciate the input. And as no one came up with a link with an out of game program I assume there isnt one and will no longer waste my precious eve hours looking for one!
Cheers all Soul

Consider giving a modern computer the problem of continually adding 1 to a number.
The time it will take a modern processor to count from 0 -> 2^32 (4.29 billion) is about 3-7 seconds. The time it will take a modern processor to count from 0 -> 2^64 (1.8 x 10^19) is about 50 years.
When the best known solution to a computer science problem (like this classic example) runs in 2^n amount of time a small increase in n (in our case 32->64) it is referred to as nondeterministic polynomial-time hard (NP-hard).
There are heuristics which can decrease the computing time further, but these have the side effect of producing sub-optimal solutions. As always, I would be interested to hear how CCP has implemented their solution.
And to relate this to MD discussion, you'd be filthy stinking rich if you could find a better algorithm for this problem (both in and out of eve )
