If you are able to stay at stations but when you moved to space the client crashes, or you are a newcomer (like me) and after the character creation the client crashes and you are using an ATI card Open the EVE online Configuration click on the Configure Options and move to Graphics Tab There un-check NV_VAR Extension , and ARB_VBO Extension
Then Apply-->Ok-->Close and you are ready
This tip is not mine , found it a day digging at eve forums :)
Btw , thats my config ------------------------------------------------------------------------- cpu: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz cpu_ghz: 2.67 memory: 2026 videocard_manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. videocard_type: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP videocard_ram: 256 agp_aperture_size: N/A videocard_driver_version: 2.1.7412 Release soundcard: SBLive! Edited by: Romulus Silvia on 27/06/2008 03:40:38 deselecting the ARB_VBO atleast let me run the game past 2 seconds and even log in to a character. but the problem im having is the screen keeps flashing black bars across the screen every few seconds. ------------mysetup-------------------- cpu: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz cpu_ghz: 1.6 memory: 1518 videocard_manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. videocard_type: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 videocard_ram: 128 agp_aperture_size: N/A videocard_driver_version: 2.1.7412 Release soundcard: Intel ICH6 with STAC9752,53 at irq 1 soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.15 machine_bitness: 32 kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic x_version: distro: Debian lenny/sid GUI version: eve-000066 --------------------------------- is my computer just to slow to run this successfully? all the tests come back passed. i really just want a way for things to run a bit more smoothly, which may be asking a lot from ccp and their 'linux' client. any tips for how i can change the configs?
edit: well i got it to work without the flashing by turning off all visual effects in gnome. but the space is all white. i do get the same fps that i got under windows, but i was wondering if there was some way to fix that? or is that something they're 'working on'?

The white space problem hasnt been fixed for like 2 patches now. I have no idea how to fix it.
Sound I completely turn off anyway because eve sound is annoying and lame even when it is working perfectly well. You also avoid some crashes by turning of sound. ------------------------ "There was this bright flash of light - and now this egg shaped thing is on my screen - did I level up?" |

yeah, cedega/transgaming can suck my***** for thinking their product is worth any amount of money. i ended up uninstalling the version provided by ccp and going the wine route, which has been amazing. i didn't know wine had finally made it to 1.0 release candidates! that's the greathest news i've heard. but yeah, got everything up and running, there's space graphics everywhere. im not sure how to configure my sound. I'm using a logitech headset with alsa, but im not sure how to set that for eve. i feel like i need to put /dev/dsp1 in somewhere, but i dont know where, but i also don't care. i didn't use sound on windows either... how else am i supposed to listen to teamspeak and gfsfm?!?! i ask you that.

Edited by: Trelos K''Maniakos on 28/06/2008 11:41:03 i think it's got something to do with unmuting the channels in alsamixer (personally i have everything unmuted or else i have no sound)
it's also great news ATI wont crash in space anymore (until amd releases some quality drivers at least) cause the new 48xx series rocks but unfortunately most times for compatibility (with linux) u need nvidia ---------------------------
