thanks goes to all moderators on the CCP forums who sometimes allow bad words, criticism and flame... but let the people say what they have to
I was happy with Bethesda Softworks official forums for quite some time (since 2004), but recently they started a new project - Fallout 3 - and ever since their moderation has turned into Hell.
I have been a good poster and contributor, but one day I logged on and realized that my account is banned and until year 2024. For what I wonder? Haven't done nothing wrong and have always been the part of the community...
Maybe they came across a lot of criticism as they acquired the rights for famous Fallout series and the greater part of Fallout supporter base. The moderators act extremely aggressively now, and i don't see many of the old fans... perhaps they were all banned for putting in some critics. What I see is a lot of fresh accounts, one day long, as if they are created for safety reasons.
My Question is How can a company be so hostile and violent to their fans? (By merely making everyone say what they like or silencing them) |

Can't wait to play Fallout 3. The Fallout and Baldur's series are probably the best RPGs that have ever been made, omfg. Well, the moderators, yeah, they friggin deleted my posts about non-working serials that were supposed to activate Oblivion add-ons.
Ofc this doesn't mean that they couldn't have some good reason to ban you.

i purchased some online in-game content, such as mods and expansion from the official site, but could not claim the software or get the money refund, simply because there was some internal error with their codes, internet explorer and software compatibility... but ok
No seriously, there was no reason to permanently ban anyone for criticizing the consoles or the way Power Armor looks.
It appears that many more people have been banned or silenced, just as on Yahoo answers (I saw this on youtube)
Sad thing, as I e-mailed the moderators and asked to explain why, they went on removing all my other accounts, to which i can say, their moderation is below acceptable level now, as they no longer support old loyal players and try hard to control the new players influx on the forums

Well, that's surely far from being a coincident then. It seems that's how they handle their unlucky customers. |

Because its their forums, companies will, if they perceve it to be in their best interests, censor and ban indivduals who post on their forums comments about their products that may be considered damaging to said company and their products. The reason for this should be fairly plain to see, message boards are essentially free advertisment of a product.
If I went online to their forums and saw a bunch of negative comments about their game, developer ethics and so forth, I would not be inclined to purchase from them their products even if the claims werent true, if I saw enough of them I would turn around and walk away.
It sucks, but because its their forums they can do what they want with them. |

The question isn't what they can do. I think we all know what they can do.
The question is what should they do.
If you walk into walmart and they kick you out because you said you didn't like one of the brands of milk they had, sure, they can do that if they want. But that's not the issue. What they can actually do isn't what's being talked about. |

Hmm. Bethesda used to be pretty open to critique...
But if they're dealing with the Fallout fanbase I can't say I don't understand them. The fallout community is the worst gaming community out there. The typical Fallout fan forum post is "I want to kill X, Y and Z for ever making Fallout 2. You ruined it all". |

yet if you go to other forums and hear that they are censoring their fans well that doesn't leave a good image in my mind... |

They're probably trying to be taken over by SOE
About Fallout 3 .. I very much hope they learned from the debacle that was un-modded Oblivion, so I don't have to wait 6 months before playing it and then taking 5 hours to weed the ****ty mods out and install the rest only to enjoy all parts of the game instead of only 2 of 5 or so storylines. |

I never said they were smart for doing it. Chances are good it was thought up by someone up the ladder who has no idea that people talk about things outside of the offical forums. In the end the situation can quickly devolve into a lose lose situation, though thats only if their products/customer service are crappy. |

hehe, they could have special Fallout 'whine section' in addition to Fallout 3 and past Fallout games
this is true, they have a lot of whining as well as constructive complaints going on, all this is tearing their fallout project reputation into pieces... but Beth softworks used to be better, I can remember times when morrowind players gathered and discussed stories, jokes, had good time on the boards... nobody ever criticized things as hard back then, and the moderators were really tolerable.
The mess on the forums started growing bigger as the company launched the 'oblivion hype' programme - the forums were dealing with issues like 'horse armor', 'mounted combat', mature rating in every other post - the fan base increased many fold with the advertising campaign, inevitably letting in less calm and quiet people, with massive influx of console players and people aged under 16 the quality of posting has rapidly gone down... time passed, as oblivion was released the things found their new shape and the forum public became better again (less raging and flaming, and omg How long more before the release threads)
But as the company went on with its publicity and announced the Fallout project and later confirmed it, the situation went really bad... By acquiring the rights to the controversial Fallout title, the company took something that it perhaps could not expect, they bite something that they could not chew... the raging Fallout fans. No need to say that the quality of posting in Fallout subcategory has rapidly deteriorated, but some of the fan communities declared that they will never accept the fact of Bethsoft being the developer and started criticizing everything on their specialized forums. (like duck and cover, no mutants allowed and many others)
My biggest mistake was to ever post in the fallout section, I believe I could be happy with just morrowind community and oblivion topics, the commentary in fallout section is excessive and moderators do not wish to be into all of it. They block people every now and then, lock the threads and generally disallow any criticism. But it seems that i can not create a new account and start over - my PC id and IP address are on their ban list.
The company ruins its reputation by punishing people excessively, instead of trying to censure things they don't like or simply letting people speak their minds freely, it feels really bad to be kicked out of the community for adding a few comments in fallout section after having been a good member for more than 4 years. With such attitude they will get bad comments, such as the ones EA games often receives (for bad support), not sure if this project will make them go bankrupt, but it will cause a lot of hatred towards them (temporary or permanent).
No forum board should ever be so ban-happy.
