Edited by: Dante Blaise on 04/05/2008 16:22:12 1) Does EVE support 5.1 audio? When I have 5.1 enabled on my audio card, it sounds like standard stereo to me.
2) Is there a way to make EVE's email system *thread* messages rather than converting every reply into a separate email? EVE's mail feels like primitive SMS-style messaging to me. Email is almost usable under certain conditions.
3) Can anyone point me to technical info regarding the HPC cluster servers that CCP uses for EVE? Id like to learn more about the core infrastructure of EVEs servers, OS's, hardware, databases, etc.
4)Why doesnt EVE have a Brightness/Contrast/Gamma adjustment system in-game like other games?
5) How often does CCP release new music for the game? Can I add additional audio for EVE? Who are the soundtrack artists? Can I buy their music?
6)Why do I appear to be flying directly through planets, stations and moons sometimes (usually when warping)? Is this a technical bug or graphics glitch?
7) I have noticed customs agents at certain jump gates. They appear to be scanning for "illegal" cargo. What exactly is illegal cargo? And what happens if the customs agents detect it? What do they do to the player hauling the contraband?
8) If I take a job (contract) from a friend who wants me to go pick a package and transport it for him/her, am I able to see the contents? Can I tell if the contents/cargo is illegal? Can I see the total value of the cargo?
9) What happens if I am online and actively mining when the CCP servers are taken offline for daily repairs? Am I put into a dock? Does the game get saved?

I only have a few answers for you. And they may be incorrect. But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Originally by: Dante Blaise Is there a way to make EVE's email system *thread* messages
No, there isn't. EVE mail works a bit different than email in other ways too.

You can't add additional music. But you can turn off the music in eve (actually you have to turn the volume to zero). And then play something in the background with winamp or similar. That is what most people do.

When you are warping you just go on a straight line from A to B, regardless of any objects in between. It's just the way the game works.

There are some trade goods that are illegal, and also boosters are illegal. I'm not an expert on the subject though. If caught, punishment can range from fines to getting your ship blown up.

I don't think you can see the contents without opening the package, and that will void the contract (you loose the collateral). I have no idea how this works with illegal cargo.

If you log out while in space (or get disconnected or down time comes or whatever) your ship will warp off in a random direction and disappear. There is more to it, especially if you are flagged and/or have aggressed someone etc, but that is the basics. When you log in to the game again your ship will warp back to where it was.

6) I used to think it was because space and time are being bent around you while the warp engines are active, so you appear to be flying through objects even though the ship isn't physically passing through them. But apparently hat's not how the engines are supposed to work according to the backstory (according to some Eve Chronicle somewhere.) This means that the far lamer explanation of "graphics issue from pre-Beta" is actually the answer to your question.
7) If an item icon has a skull and crossbones on it then there are legal implications to carrying it. Do "show info" on it and it and select "legality". This will tell you where it's illegal and what the penalty is. Some illegal items have no penalty, such as Empire military tags.
8) I don't believe so, unless they changed this feature recently. I haven't done a courier mission for a player in a long time, but I remember trying to check what was inside the box to no avail.
9) Everybody just gets logged off when downtime hits. When you log back in after downtime you'll find yourself warping back to the spot you logged off from. Everything will be saved as-is, except for jet cans, wrecks, drones in space, and NPC ships, basically (other things like secure containers and abandoned ships also get cleared after downtime, but not every day IIRC.) |

Note that while dogtags, especially ones belonging to the four factions, are technically illegal, they have no punishment for carrying them. |

Reminds me of the first time I played eve. After playing for a couple of hours I had to turn the computer off and leave (was late for some meeting or something). I still remember the panic when I couldn't find the save button |
