We all have to remember that EVE is still a game.
If we make the whole CSM process as intrusive as RL politics we may very well get a similar result.
If CCP over promote the CSM there is a serious risk of a people being completely turned off.

* EVE-mail from an account easily identifiable as a CCP employee.
* "Local" channel MOTD (see it every time you login, every time you change system).
A couple of things you could do. Not that it's easy, but you could. Both of them less annoying and more effective compared to popups, for sure. ____
AND another thing.
Single vote, single round election... with 60+ candidates for 9(+5) seats ? OUCH. At least give 3 votes (if not 9)... better still, an "Eurovision-like" system with "weighted votes".
OR at least specify that you will allow people to change their vote any number of times before the end... else people will wait until the last minute to vote (too many candidates) and miss the voting altogether.
Heck, even a "X votes counted" for each candidate AND the ability to change vote (cached in 1h intervals to prevent "vote buy validation") would be awesome during the whole course of the 2 weeks voting session.

I second the CCP Xhagen's post about the voters apathy and available tools to inform the voters to the full extent.
What you speak of, LaVista, reminds me strongly of my country's past, when during times of 'socialism', everyone was hereded to the voting booths to vote for one and only Party.
People have the right not to vote. And if you hold that thought and roll it around - disinterested people shouldn't even vote. They are not informed, and most importantly, they're not engaged into the game. Do you really want the next important issue decided by someone who simply does not care?

No. As I explained, I find it that some people(At least those I talk to) wasn't aware of CSM, yet were quite interested in it.
THAT is what I wanna change. I don't wanna force people to vote.

I explained this in the update request thread, but I wanted to post it here as well. The candidate thread will be updated once per day on working days, meaning not on weekends or during (Icelandic) holidays.

Edited by: Venkul Mul on 05/05/2008 19:08:18 A small thing. I just casted my first vote (3 accounts, so i suppose I have 3 votes).
I would like much a log in/log out for the voting page. Apparently it has picked my log in for the forum as a log in for the vote section. It feel a bit awkward not to confirm the character/account that is voting.
Edit:
Closing the browser every time and using the link to the vote page worked, but I must say being "auto-logged" as I was already logged to a very different section of the forum didn't seemed right.
I would greatly prefer a separate log in like when we start a bug report or a petition.
Sorry for the hijack but this seemed the best thread to put it in.
About the main topic.
EVE radio and similar broadcast could help contacting the general players, even if this kind of communication can penalize those that don't speak English perfectly (and those that have some difficult following English speakers).

Some of you may not agree with what I say here, but I have a perspective on this. Part of your job as a candidate, as any candidate running for any kind of democratically elected office, is to energize your support base and bring out the vote. While it would be wonderful if everyone saw this as important voter apathy is a real thing and we'll have to be creative to get around that.
I think that what LaVista seems to be doing is a very worthwhile pursuit. Spreading awareness and talking to people. While I haven't been personally active running around via the eve-o forums, I have done a lot of talking to people in various out of game communities and it's quite possible that this can be just as effective.
Different people like to obtain their information in different ways and not everyone is going to look to these forums for it. Some people may choose to get their Eve info from outside of here and energizing them about your campaign is your job as someone campaigning. http://www.griefgaming.com/images/darius_sig.jpg
