I frequently mine in my Hulk, and use the minerals from the refined ore for production. I guess I'm a bit of a carebear, but I'm also a realist.

Originally by: Arithron Maybe even have asteroids variable in ore quality, and occasionally, just ever so often, Joe Miner hits the mother lode by striking a rich, undetected vein in the asteroid. Enlarge the variety and occurrence of those scannable cosmic areas with new hidden belts, and make them more team orientated (miners needing PILOT protection as they mine). Just a few ideas, maybe worthwhile or notà.IĈm sure there are many others out there which IĈd happily discuss and entertain...
I see Mining as VITAL to Eve, as it underpins the Industrial side (and hence affects ALL players directly through modules/ammo/ships/minerals price etc). I dislike Macro miners, as do many of the candidates. Some changes that require human attention during mining would be useful (eg, having to constantly ĉtuneĈ your lasers to different sections of the asteroids due to fluctuations in densityà.probably a bad idea, but other players will have better ones).
I'd like to carry that idea a bit further. I agree with everything that Arithron said, but think there could be other ways to enhance it.
My webpage talks about periodic raids of high-sec space. I think this is a good way to get rid of macroers and AFK miners (those not at the computer for some time), while still being fair.
The concept, as outlined elsewhere, is this: The devs play a major NPC in the game (since the name cannot be made into a player character) and comes in warning them in his own words that there will be a raid on the system in 5 minutes. This gives those at the keyboard time to wrap up and head back to the security of the station.
The armada arrives (lots of battleships and such) and begins a sweep of the asteroid and ice belts before finally being squashed by Concord. During this time, they shoot anybody they see in the belts.
This idea is still in it's infancy, but I believe it's one of the best ways to get rid of macrominers without violating the game logic or anything like that. It will be refined, and then presented to the developers if I attain the position of CSM.

Originally by: Qelen Seastrider If you're a realist, then you know something needs to be done to fix the situation of ore thieves. I don't condemn the concept of ore thieves, but as things stand, the odds are so stacked against a miner who tries to defend his nard work that the only sensible thing is to let the ore thief take the ore. Where, I ask you, is the game balance to that?
Actually, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, to an extent. While I believe ore thievery is a weak attempt at ganking, it does have a functional part in the game. The part I can't understand, though, is why we can take everything from a can and be called bad, but lay a finger on the can itself and Concord comes in to smack us around.
Here's my concept: Whether you shoot or steal from a can, the same thing will happen. You get the red flashy just as is right now, as well as a very small hit to your security status. That way, people can't live alone off of theft.
The penalty will be very small (maybe -0.1 per theft, compared to the -2 that happens when you pod somebody), but will nonetheless be there. This will discourage massive theft, but still leave the mechanic in.
There are plenty of other methods suggested, but I think this is both logical and reasonable. What do you think?
