So, I was checking my real life email to honestly take a break from EVE and get some stuff done.
What do I find?
An EVE ad. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. I see them popping up all over the place, but this is the LAST place I expected to find it.
Take a look on this shot of my desktop (so you know it is unedited and all). You might have to scroll to the right :P
Anyway, EVE is starting to take over the world... I mean when was the last time you had an advert for WoW clogging up the way to your inbox?

Umm. You have a white box next to "welcome"... I doubt its unedited.
And as a side note, gmail > yahoo mail. And I actually have seen eve adverts in my gmail thing (on the side, youknow...) but with the google ad filtering, I never see Wow adds: Its simply not what I am interested in, so google filtered it out

Well, in order to be able to display stuff on the EVE-O website I have to filter out personal information. I think my name and email address constitutes personal information :P
At any rate, so you're telling me the ads are actually able to dig into my mind and tell me what I am interested in?
So wait, why are they offering me a FREE TRIAL?!?!?! I do have at least one account :P They should offer me a FREE THIRTY DAYS for my account!!

To a point: It will look through your email and find things that are related to that. If you open up an email about, say, elves and dwarfs and such, then it will show you a wow advert, most likely. If your email is talking about Internet spaceships, then it probably wont show you a wow advert, will it?

Not to burst your bubble, but what you are seeing is not really a giant ad campaign but targeted ads based on what has been recorded in tracking cookies in your web browser. Said tracking cookies get deposited by website ad mechanisms which can quickly profile what sites you visit a lot and start pumping targeted ads at you.
I saw the same thing you describe AFTER installing Eve on new laptop and had started browsing Eve related sites wih that laptop. Before Eve and my Eve-related browsing began, I never saw an Eve ad (I use Yahoo as well).
Yahoo and others like them dont directly control what ads appear, they just provide the mechanism for the ad to appear. What appears is controlled by what is detected by the ad hosting service based on what they can detect about your browsing history.
If you want to test this, find a PC that has never had Eve or ever been used to browse Eve websites and you will see you dont get Eve ads..BUT since you might have browsed Eve sites whilelogged in with your Yahoo account (or used Yahoo search), you might start seeing ads for Eve as soon as you sign into Yahoo.
Its just Big Brother watching you is all :-) and he knows you like Eve, so you get lots of Eve ads.

Sandor that is both interesting and saddening at the same time.
While I appreciate that my browser can throw offers for me to open a free trial, the sad part is that the people who really need it aren't getting it.
lol, that just sounded like an ad in and of itself. I need to go outside :(
