OK, this is going to be a long one I think. I was going to try and install eve on a Slackware machine but I gave up after a HD fail - so moved to a nice 64bit Linux version...
1) install the OS - 6GB total install 2) install the Nvidia Gfx Drivers 3) Install http://www.bluewhite64.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?648"32bit Flash for 64bit Firefox][/url] - this gives you 32bit libs for 64bit linux 4) run X 5) download the eve loader 6) run eve 7) wait while eve | cedega does its stuff 8) miss any error messages 9) run eve again 10) this is where it stops - it loads up the splash screen , switches to full screen mode , pops up the EULA dialog but there is no text and then just exits
rattus@wishbone:~$ eve Single-user install... This is the update checker... Running /home/rattus/.cedega/.updater/cedega_updater.py Running... /home/rattus/.cedega/.ui/runGUI rattus@wishbone:~$ sh: lsb_release: command not found sh: lsb_release: command not found
any clues ?

While I cannot help debug/diagnose your specific problem I can tell you that I run the official EVE client on a 64bit distro (Ubuntu 7.10) without problems. So, there is nothing intrinsic to 64bit Linux that would prevent EVE from working.

strace it to see how its calling lsb_release then hack up a shell script in path that gives the same output? ♥ Minmatart ♥ |

there was a post on the ubuntu forums the other day about someone having trouble with their 32bit compat libraries... apparently, there's some interaction where the graphics drivers are concerned. try returning to the open source driver temporarily, then updating/reinstalling the 32 bit libraries, and then returning your graphics driver to the non-free version. That might fix your problem.
Tbh, I'm having the same/similar issue on this box, but I'll be reinstalling it in a few days, so I haven't bothered with 'correcting' it.
Wine runs fine, oddly enough. Not sure what the exact issue is. (wine is a 32 bit app)

And yes, before i updated (from 7.10 to 8.04) I was running the ccp client on 64bit kernel with no major issues (occasional texture barfing)
The wine client currently runs visually perfect, with very occasional crash... I can't blame wine at this point, as I know my 32bit libs aren't up to snuff atm.
But again, this box is getting rebuilt soon.

Did you disable Audio hardware acceleration inside game? This cures crashes for me...

Hadn't tried it, but that does sound about par for the course. I remember reading recently an article, something about a significant amount of windows crashes being due bad audio code running. Ugh, wish I could remember where, but it's just not coming to mind atm. Anyways, apparently, audio is a problem. We do know that microsoft made major changes to the audio layers when they redesigned everything for vista, to the point where pretty much anything involving hardware acceleration no longer works, at least in terms of directx. Although Creative Labs did create their Alchemy package to allow audio calls to be translated to OpenAL in order to get around the 'problem'. However, I'm guessing that sorta defeats the purpose... aka stability. Maybe not. Not sure how it all interacts, at least not without digging into some whitepapers, which I haven't... yet.

As far as the lsb_release thingie, it is provided by the lsb packages. They are usually supplied by most distributions but slackware apparently doesn't carry it.
They used to be installed by default but it maybe left out with newer releases.

if there is no text you should check if arial (etc) exists in windows/fonts.. if they do exist - maybe something with freetype or whatever cedega uses in the system.
