Recently, I watched a CCP movie which contained information about Ambulation. Of particular interest to me was the notion that character weight is a variable. I had a few idea pertaining to this, and I wanted to give my vote to whichever candidate or candidates proved willing to champion them. I have five accounts, so that is five votes for whomever promises to bring this up at the first CSM meeting. I would like very obese characters to have to pay more for their clones, and to have their ships have slightly more inertia. That is all.

While i havent seen the particular movie myself, heres my two cents about your issue:
Sure obese characters paying more for their clones might be an interesting idea, but you realize that then people would simply not "create" obese avatars, so it would in essence render an otherwise interesting role playing feature completely unused (or at least rarely used).
As for ship inertia, i doubt that the weight difference between a normal sized human and an obese one makes any difference. Just check out how much those ships weight and you will realize while i say that.
As for bringing up issues. You might not be clear about this, but it is you who will be able to bring up issues for the CSM and not (just) us. Once you do, the CSM will have to discuss it and decide whether or not we should bring this to CCP.
If you are looking for support on your issue, well.. i can't promise you that myself - see my concerns about your suggestions above - so i guess im not getting your 5 votes.
Regardless of that, i suggest you think about this some more as in its current form im quite sure no CSM candidate will vote for it.
I am running for CSM and need your support! Campaign thead

i dont think the legislature-period of the CSM elected now - will last long enough to influence ambulation.
that is still many years ahead of us.
a) therefore i will not bring that up as a priority issue. Sorry to loose your votes. Butmy integrity means a lot to me.
b) inertia influence of human body weight differences on a ship can done but is utterly pointless. even a shuttle wights tons, even w/o a diploma in physics i know that 20kg biomass difference means values 2 spaces behind the komma calculated to a ships mass. A value easily compensated by leave those extra ratios of beer that the lighter pilots seem to carry in their pods around.
c) the more factors you expect CCPs SQL server to manage, the slower the game will get the more issues with lag we will have your request would create bugs, lag, overload of the database - and all that for not too critical changes and data if i may say that with all due respect.
I wont get your vote, but at least you hear the truth from me.

There could be penalties to playing thin people to balance it out. For example, thin people might get nausea from being thrown around more in a fast ship. Maybe it would be better if the bonuses and penalties were all ambulation-related.
It's just an idea, but I like it.

What if skinny people got better bonuses from Boosters but had more chance of getting negative effects?

I really don't think the 'weight' of characters should have any ingame effects! ----- Alliance Creation/Corp Expansion Services

I'm all for biomechanics and physiology for having an impact on the game as it adds an element of realism.
In fact, put forward the concept of disease and infection due to close human contact as a result of ambulation, but wasn't well recieved. Personally, I'm still hugely in favour of that being a good idea, as one of the earliest medical concepts has always been that increasing population density favours the spread of infection.
However, if we ARE being realistic, I really don't think that an extra 30-100 kg is going to make a significant difference to the intertial properties of a ship weighing millions of KG.
I'd like to see some effects in ambulation, such as slower walking pace or running pace, sweating with lesser degrees of exertion, and say blocking of corridors (except that won't be allowed to happen according to info imparted so far), but that's about it.
As for clone costs, etc, well ... won't that be based on DNA samples and memory engrams, which are weight independant? In which case, more likely would be your clone starts as a standard 'healthy' model, and deteriorates from there, rather than being spat out with the same degree of physiological handicapping that your previous clone had gotten to. I guess you could opt to have an optional extra system such as +5 mil isk to add 50 kg, or +2 mil isk to change eye colour at clone activation, but .... hey ho.
At the end of the day, if you suggest it, adn the wider Eve community supports it, then it will be an issue that gets raised.

Why I think highly of ambulation:
- It will inject a whole lot more life and depth into the game. - Moving around between areas within a station will make things such as trading, manufacturing and meeting people a whole lot more interesting. - New features, such as spying (hacking into other corps databases etc), gambling and shops, just to mention a few, could be introduced.
I doubt character body mass would influence anything else than his/her appearance.

I would like to thank the OP for providing a perfect example of why having the CSM as a buffer between the forums and CCP is a good idea. ================================================

Hi, Peri. Maybe you could come up with some constructive criticism instead of just writing my ideas off?

Edited by: Darius JOHNSON on 13/05/2008 18:12:49 I see absolutely no value in being able to walk around stations. If CCP does however I can think of no reason why weight shouldn't be a variable. I mean, if you're going to spend your time on math so people can e-pretend to e-hangout why not allow you to be fat?

Conceptually I understand your desires, however I waver on the notion of obesity and clones. Let us follow the assumption that EVE's technological future has allowed for countless medical advances. If you had the ability to have a clone grown from your own DNA why would you pay for an obese clone? Obesity beings with it several health issues that would otherwise impact your quality of life. If you became obese after a clone jump, so be it, but why start that way? After all, cloning could be the new diet craze (if there wasn't some sort of pill already to help regulate your body mass.
Although every pound/kilogram matters on a physics level I don't see a need for altering the mechanics of the game based on a few pounds you may be tossing here and there. With that line of thinking you'd have to alter the way a ship would fly if laden or unladen. Industrials would need a complete revamp, not to mention Freighters. Then there are ammunition considerations in your cargo-hold, etc. In this regard I'm inclined with the keep it simple philosophy.

I'm not sure you're looking at this the right way. It seems your base assumption is that being fat is somehow wrong. There are plenty of beautiful fat people out there who wouldn't change for the world nor should they.

Well, some recent studies have shown that obesity can actually improve your health in some respects, and I'm certain the futuristic technology in EVE would be able to ameliorate any drawbacks of being obese.
Also, I find your assumption that everybody desires thinness to be insulting. In the future, there is no telling what fashion fads people will choose, when their very bodies can be reshaped with science.

Altering ship mechanics based on body mass was a bad idea. But there are more suitable mechanics available: having your body mass affect the metabolization of Combat Boosters, affecting the total number of implants one can use, and having various effects based on how Ambulation works,
