THIS IS A SCAM,
A member pretends he is a RL mate mining for him. He acts all stupid asking for help on how to do things. He eventually says he has pressed self destruct and starts freaking out how do I stop it. It doesnt matter what you tell him he says that he destructs. Then he begs for help because he has destroyed his friends ship who will kill him. In our case he said he was mining using a Thorax. He gained 6.5M ISK in donations from our members, transferred this to another character and left the corp.
Its clever, its smart and he pulled it off perfectly. Especially asking really ignorant questions to gain peoples sympathy at least twenty minutes before the scam was done. I dont feel slighted at all in fact. That is why I posted here to warn people. I wish this topic was pinned but their is too much already. I do wish their was a pinned SCAMS topic but I was unable to find one.
PLEASE POST THIS GUYS NAME IF YOU SEE HIM DO IT THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THIS SCAM
ThaDon

You can usually spot a scammer by their own stupidity, they're not mastermind criminals.
We had one guy who asked for 140 small armor repair systems for a friend of his who he could not name but who absolutely needed them, matter of life and death. Man you're so clever!
Rule of thumb is, if they beg check for that pegleg.

A guy good enough to fly a thorax but doesn't know how to stop a "self-destruct" command which costs him his ship?
Yeh right, I'd smell this one from miles away :p

If he would have asked me for another Thorax after being that stupid i would have just laffed.
I mean, HOW stupid do u think a person is? They have to press Self Destruct, and the press Confirm. "Self Destruct" cannot be confused with anything else, what do u think he thought it meant? " mine " ???
And he " confirmed " it ffs, u should have just said to him " i'm sorry u wasn't born with many braincells, and i'm sorry ur RL m8 will slap ur face for losing his ship, but i don't take responsability for ur retard ways "
Then u laff again. But instead we're all laffing at u for falling for it.

I have been playing EVE since 11/05/03 and I don't know a thing about stopping a self-destruct. Maybe that is because I have never been so stupid as to self-destruct unless I absolutly wanted to. -------------------------

I would have laughed at him for being a idiot and then informed him that his "RL friend" could have his account banned for being in breach of the EULA.

hmm, on breaking the EULA..
We do it alot in our corp(give account info). We have many sailors who tend to be afk for longer periods, Other members take over skill training setting.
Never realised we broke rules there

Ouch Mned! Don't get pinned on that one. Makes me kinda glad though I never got asked to give out my account info (since I didnd't join the split), cuz even though I love you guys as much as a guy can love Ex corpmates he has stayed friends with, I never woulda trusted you guys with my account info... Not so much cuz I think you guys would do anything to me, but just on the principal of the thing you know? Even if I didn't know anything about the EULA.
Like in some ritual magic systems, you pick a name that only you know, that is used in your whatever it is your doing, giving that name or symbol away is giving someone complete power and control over you.
Now even though the latter might be all hocus pocus and possibly even mumbo jumbo nonsense (lets not debate it ok people?), the point is exactly the same :)
Anyway like I said, hope CCP doesn't frag you guys for it :(

That was an honest-to-god matchstick case.
It's different because it doesn't play on human vice. But nonetheless, it was quite impressive.

I probably should've waited to do something more formal but this is as good a times as any.
Eve Guardian is in the process, more of a debate, on a new category of articles. (If you didn't know you can easily sort EG by category to get only what you want to see.) The new category proposed is "Crime".
"Crime" will be for reporting, still within "in character" limits, any reports from the community. Corp theft, Scams, Terminations (Kudos to Viceroy on the one bounty), and any other sordid affair that is basically criminal in nature. (Not PvP or pirating though - that's game/roleplay as opposed to social crimes like thefts and scams.)
One of the inspirations for this is the CFS's corp thief list. A very good gesture for all in involved, imho.
Reporting address is [email protected] .
Call it another public service aspect of the News.

How very wrong you are, ask any of the older players about Morbor's Consultancy and they will tell you a story of how some dude made over a billion isk in the biggest EVE scam ever.
I don't care if a scammer pretending to be a newb is bashing his head against a piece of scordite, my isk stays in my pocket. If he wants help, he can have 23 Foxfire Rocket BPo's courtasy of my agent.
