SLAVE MATRICULATION PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
The Disciples of Ston announce the most exciting news since the formation of our organization. Long have we planned for and dreamed of this day. Today, we received into our newly established Emancipation and Matriculation program, 415 rescued slaves, all eager for freedom and yearning to become free citizens where they can enjoy the blessings of liberty.
A few days ago a pilot contacted Manwe and told him that he had rescued a large number of slaves and wanted to give them over to our care, knowing that we were prepared and committed to the process of matriculation leading to productive citizenship as free members of the society of their choice. We call this pilot a hero. He took substantial risk to make this happen. We hold his identity a secret and will not reveal who he is unless he gives us permission. We are proud to call him a friend and a benefactor for freedom.
Our philosophy of matriculation is a long term commitment to helping escaped and rescued slaves become free citizens.
The process 1.Emancipation: Slave becomes Matriculant 2.Matriculation: Matriculant becomes Citizen
We are keeping the location of our matriculation center a secret for the protection of these recently emancipated persons. Part of our new training program will provide means by which we can more safely and secretly transport liberated former slaves to locations outside the Empire. We will honor the wishes of any rescued slaves including any who wish to return to their holders. We take the principles of emancipation most seriously.
I do not believe I have ever seen so many smiles or heard so much laughter in one place in my life. It is best described as GÇ£joy unleashed.GÇ¥ There is much work and still much danger ahead, but these brave souls have already endured much danger. The laws of free space will treat us as slave traders if we are caught transporting these individuals to new homes in free places. This is a great irony and something that needs to be corrected by the governments involved. But, we are committed to take every risk we need to take to honor the desire of every emancipated former slave to live as a free citizen.
We also invite other pilots to join this first pilot and help us help the slaves you rescue in space. There are 415 people who love this pilot more than words can express. We will take any who want to be a part of our matriculation program. They are welcome.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Ston, My resources are at your service in this endeavor. My crews are well cared for and well compensated. They are never asked to use weaponry except in defense of ship and crew. My colony workforce can always use new trainees as well. I welcome you to inspect my facilities to confirm that they are state of the art, well maintained and safe. I primarily manufacture consumer electronics. We also can provide temporary employment while people are training for other vocations. If you can get them to my facilities, they are welcome. My ship crews are also free to rotate from ship to planet crew and vic-versa. Please make my offer known to the men and women in your matriculation program. |

FIVE ADDITIONAL SLAVES RESCUED
We have been able to rescue five additional slaves and they will soon be en-route to our Emancipation and Matriculation Center. We are considering opening multiple centers in the Cluster to facilitate rescue and emancipation of slaves. |

I have a couple of questions, as one who has liberated many in the past.
You say that after the matriculation process they become citizens. And this is a two step process. First of all, why two steps? If there a qualifier for those at step 1 to reach step 2? I am sure you would have mentioned it if there were, and I wonder if it is a matter of administrative ease - something I have never seen a need for in my past work - or if there is a criteria to follow.
Also, where do they become citizens? Do they select their preferred empire? is it by origin of blood? I understand you respect the wishes of those wanting to return to their masters so would this include those wishing to be taken to the Amarr Empire et al after liberation? Of course it is unlikely they will be accepted as a 'citizen' at that point and reintegrated into the Amarr slavery system...
And what if an empire does not accept any liberated souls you turn over to their welfare system for repatriation? |

The Honor Guard will keep reserve positions for planetside employment available to those released from this program, should they desire to find stable employment with fair compensation and an opportunity to begin a new life within the State's borders.
This offer is made with the following understandings:
- The Honor Guard is in no position to offer anyone that enters its employment citizenship or legal clemency within the State
- Those employed by the Honor Guard are free to pursue citizenship, legal clemency and/or alternate employment
- The Honor Guard will honor the State meritocracy system, any employed by the Honor Guard will be compensated for their labor fairly, adequately and according to their merit
- Those employed by the Honor Guard will not be released from its employment unless breaching the Honor Guard's internal policies and regulations, as would be grounds for termination of any other employee
- The Honor Guard maintains several areas of land aboard its home planet that may be granted to its employees for the establishment of homes and personal planetside businesses
- Those entering the employ of the Honor Guard enter a "work at will" environment, free to leave or pursue alternate means of gainful income at their discretion
- The Honor Guard is not responsible for the methods used in the liberation, emancipation, re-education or releasing of these individuals, it's sole accountability is upon becoming an employer and subsequently seeing to the proper and fair compensation thenceforth according to the State's and Honor Guard's meritocratic system policy

Mr. Shakor asks very important questions. First, there is no qualifier between step one and two. Matriculation is a service we provide, not a requirement. Those we rescue are free to go where they wish. We want the transition to be positive, so we provide education, training and networking. Already here, we have offers for places of employment. That is why we offer matriculation as a service to rescued slaves.
Now to the other questions. Here is the problem. There is no legal means to change the status of slaves to free citizens. They have to be smuggled to where they are going. This is frustrating for us and risky for our pilots and potential employers. We are treated as slave traders if we try to transport these freed slaves through Republic or Federation space. How ridiculous is that? In order to do the right thing, we have to break the law. I am posting another thread on this subject today.
For those of us who will employ these freed people comes the continuing responsibility to protect them and provide covert transportation. Is that real freedom? Government policy needs to change or our matriculation program will never really achieve citizenship for these people. This is sad. Thanks for your questions Mr. Shakor and thanks for your support Mr. Galente and Mr. Khross. |

Please clarify this. I am not sure I can reconcile the two points. They will not be released form your employ but they are free to leave. Does this mean you are free to 'bring them back'? I cannot help but remember Dr Hnolku and now Dr Tukoss.

Dear Ston, I am going to think outloud if you will for a few moments. All of the slave that have entered the Matriculation program were rescued from situations where they were within 2 hours of death. There is trauma. You have described the Matriculation process as volunteer and long term; potentially long term, that is, if the freed slaves choose to stick with the program. Lack of positive governmental support and policies limit your options and theirs. Transport is dangerous and some former slaves may not want to take the risk.
What is needed is to offer a greater sense if self determination. One of the ways to do this is to provide the means by which they can establish their own communities. These communities could be places where Matriculation really does its work and men and women begin to help themselves in community. It might sound ideal and maybe impossible, but wait.
When I began Planetary mining and manufacturing colonies, I entered the enterprise with little know how and education. I depended on the expertise of the those who manned the colonies. I have been talking with the good folks who work on my planetary colonies about this situation. We have come up with an idea. Tell me what you think.
My managers are prepared to shut down one of my volcanic colonies and move the whole workforce (willing) to a temperate planet in Amarr space and establish a colony where matriculants can come, train, manage, raise families and run the colony. Those willing may stay as long as they wish. They would establish there own communities.
Like I said, I am thinking outloud, but this is something I am willing to do for the cause. I think it could be an option especially while you wait for governments to change policy to allow slaves to actually change their status so they can move about freely. Your thoughts are appreciated. |

The term "released" in corporate diction means to be involuntarily terminated or fired. Thus, the first point means that their employment will not be forcibly terminated or retracted by the Honor Guard unless they have given reason for it to be so, the same reasons the Honor Guard would have to fire any of its employees.
The second point means that they may voluntarily end their employment with the Honor Guard at any time.
The first covers involuntary end of employment, the second covers voluntary end of employment. Does that clarify it substantially?

I wanted to give a basic time table for the establishment of a planetary colony as part of the Emancipation and matriculation program of the Disciples of Ston. First I need to complete the current project I am on. I am working to establish 100 percent refining efficiency with 0 percent tax at Joint Harvesting Corp plants. When that is done, I will return to Piekura, where I will set up one last run for consumer electronics. After that, I will begin shutting down two of our Planetary bases in preparation of establishing one or two in locations close to rescue operations. Word has it that some of the rescued people have experience and are anxious to help. How will they respond when they find out that they will get paid a living wage for their work? Matriculation will also involve learning to be financially responsible without being greedy. They will learn how to share what they earn with others and to become generous citizens. These are exciting days for all of us associated with the disciples of Ston. |

I have begun to search border systems for rescue situations. The task seems daunting. There are too many systems to cover and how can one possibly be at the right place at the right time within two hours of an given jettison? I am convinced that is the Disciples are so save these people, divine guidance is most assuredly needed. We could also use the guidance and help of other pilots. This task began with a pilot helping us. Other pilots are needed too. If you come across container with slaves in them, rescue those slaves, contact one of us Disciples, and we will conduct them safely to one of our centers.

I make it a habit to rescue any crew found to be stranded in space, regardless of their alignment, ethnicity or location. Sadly, this does not always end well as some are beyond resuscitation or treatment by the time I have found them but it does often provide some measure of peace for families if the body is found.
If I happen to find any former slaves during this activity, I will inform you per your request.
As clarification, I refer to them as "former" slaves because if they are stranded in space than their owners have forfeited all ownership over them as far as I am concerned.

39 former slaves were rescued tonight from two separate containers. Their stories and mine are quite interesting. While rescuing 10 slaves from a second container, I came attack by the pilot who had not jumped out of system. My adrenaline overcame my good sense, and I neglected to check to see if the pilot was still in system. The Aleithea is a very fast ship and I was able to get out of range and warp to safety with only shield damage. He left system and I returned and finished the rescue operation.
Bu the real story is the first container... When I came upon it, I jettisoned a fresh container as there was not room in my frigate for all the slave. Here is where the interesting part begins. In the container were 29 slaves, 5 slavers, and 2 slaver hounds. Now the story gets thicker. The whole group was jettisoned together when the pilot realized he was jumping into Caldari space. Why is the interesting part. The slavers had booked passage and the former slave owner had included two slaver hounds to help the slavers keep control until the slaves could be sold on the black market. The big surprise to the slavers was that the slaver hounds had been tamed and adopted by the very slaves being transported. While on board, the slaves had taken over the habitation compartment and taken the slavers hostage. When the pilot got to the border, he jettisoned the lot.
When I got there, I rescued who I could while the rest and the slaver hounds stayed behind and guarded the slavers until I returned. The rescued former slaves have requested permission to keep their "pets." What a remarkable story.
Now, what do we do with the slavers? |

As we offer our Matriculation services, we are finding that the families and individuals we rescue are anxious to be involved in the establishment of a planet based colony and community. Those with expertise in agriculture, energy management, computer and robotics operation, chemistry, etc have come forward and are now preparing the planning and coordination with Edaine's crew for the upcoming construction. We have managed to bring several of the Matriculants to the planet to help survey the best place to establish the core facility. Excitement is building.
However, we are no closer to a decision on what to do with the slavers. We are considering taking them first to our HQ in Korama so they are far away from those we have rescued. We would like more information, feedback and ideas on just what to do with them.
No further rescues have been made but we are watching and staying alert. |

Obviously, my reaction would be to just put them back in space, and leave them a single firearm with just four bullets. Would one emerge as the hero of the day and give the others mercy in the face of suffering, or would they fall on each other for the right to claim the bullet for themselves? Would be interesting.
But of course, cruel as well. Cruelty to cruel men... I doubt you would follow this advice.
So here is something different. Put the empires to the test. Where did you find them? And where were they going to sell these slaves? You mentioned a black market so I would assume they were going to be sold illegally in one of the other empires that outlaws slavery. Turn them over to their justice, with all records that you have and testimonies to ensure their guilt.
Of course, I have rarely found a reliable recourse in the empires to actually hand over prisoners unless it is via direct agent contract as part of an assignment. So... do you have four bullets? |

97 former slaves were rescued today. One container contained 70 slaves and another contained 27. I jettisoned a new container and transported all 97 over. I then did the math and realized that 4 trips of 24 passengers each would equal 96. The fifth trip would be for one remaining passenger who would have to wait alone while all his comrades were safely back at the center. As you might guess, this honor was aggressively claimed by the oldest of the group. His name is Gladius and I will always remember his pride and bravery and also the respect that everyone there showed him. Welcome to freedom, Gladius!
Now I am trying to overcome my tendency to get excited on these operations so I can get information about those who abandoned these people to die. I was half successful. We would like to begin to publish the names of the pilots and their corporations here on this page.
When I scanned the first container and saw 70 people, I lost my nerve. I brought up the pilot name, then his corp. I entered the name of the corp in my notes and immediately forgot the pilot's name. I calmed down on the second container and got both the pilot's name and Corp.

69 additional former slaves entered Matriculation Center #2 program this morning. The men, women and children we found in a single jettisoned container. Three trips were needed to rescue the whole group, but it went quickly. Center # two has appointed Gladius as their representative in all matter related to the Disciples of Ston. He is a capable and compassionate man. The new community is organizing itself well and families are settling into the routine of educating and caring for their children. All hands are planning and preparing for the planetary colony. We have managed to take several groups of technical experts among those we have rescued to the planet for survey trips. We hope to coordinate with Center #1 before long so that our efforts are integrated as we move forward. This center has now grown to 205 men, women, and children and 2 pets. When Ston and I change places again, we will transport the slave traders back to Korama where they will be held until a decision is made about where we will take them for justice.

While everyday tasks and life was going on at the station, the docking com was heard to announce the docking of a Interon V. "The Freedom Train" is now docking. Everyone's ears perked. Who was it? It was Edaine stopping in after anchoring the secure container out by the gate we are watching. He had changed the name of his Interon from "service barge" (boring) to "freedom train." There was some excitement especially among the children, who never seem to bore at the sight of a ship coming into dock. Better yet, Edaine had treats to hand out to all the children. Thanks Edaine

Our planetary crews are in the last production cycles before shutting down our unit on Piekura V. Once the last production cycle is complete, we will dismantle the base and move on to build the Matriculation center base. The location will not be revealed publicly. The Matari technical experts have been in contact with my managers and are in the planning stages at this point. Our priority will be to build housing units first, before we establish production facilities.
No one among my crews will have to seek employment elsewhere unless they choose to do so. I plan to structure all my planetary operations around the rescue and matriculation work of the Disciples. |

We had good news today. 50 more former slaves were rescued and in an unusual way. I had placed an abandoned can with the coordinates to our slave shelter. The coordinates were in a bookmark titled, "place your slaves here." When I returned to the area, I found that someone had transported 50 slaves into the abandoned can near the gate, not the slave shelter. I am so glad I went back before two hours had expired.
Optimism tells me, that the pilot who did this meant well. Thanks pilot. The Deity knows your heart in the matter.
Elder Gladius says that the community is growing and organizing itself well. I asked him, at Ston's request to ask if any former slaves wish to be placed with a holder. He said that he will honor that request for freedom's sake. So far, Tobias has been the only one. |
