I have two rescues to report.
Rescue one: Last night 3 brave souls were rescued

Rescue Two: This morning, 135 brave souls were rescued.

Rescue #3 involved a single former slave. When I transported him aboard, he told me a story of how he promised God, that if he was somehow saved from death, he would do all he could to aid in the plite of those enslaved. I told him of our work and "Farmer" (that is his name) said that he wanted to be a part of it. When we got back to the center Gladius processed Farmer and welcomed him into the fold. Later, they approached me with an idea. We have wanted to test transporting former slaves into free space. The scanner transponders in slave's bodies give off a signal that can be received by scanners. We needed to know if our cloaking technology would hide that signature sucessfully under actual conditions. Farmer was our volunteer. He is also a fit man and strong in endurance. We needed those qualities, because we also wanted to dock in Caldari space. We needed to be prepared.
All went without a hitch. As we were preparing to enter Caldari Space, we found another Jet Can with the 65 former slaves mentioned above. We had to delay the test while we took two trips to evacuate the group. When that was finished, we entered Caldari space undetected. We landed on a station in Caldari space exitted, stayed on the station for a little while and then left. We returned to the Center across the border. The Elutheria performed beyond expectation. We can begin transporting these former slaves into Republic, Federation, and Caldari space.
One last Wall of Shame
WALL OF SHAME

As promised, below is a census of our Matriculation centers as of today. We are not listing any information other than numbers at this time
Center #1: 502 residents Center #2: 487 residents Center #3: 1191 residents
Total: 2180 residents
These numbers are changing on a day to day basis. I wanted to report them now before Manwe starts to transport residents out of the centers to other locations. |

Add 12 more very happy people to the census, rescued just a little while ago. This was a group of Older women. They said that they were sold as domestic slaves from a very large Holder operation by an under manager without the holder's consent, to "make room" for younger slaves. I would imagine that there is more of this kind of thing going on than meets the eye.

Rescue ops have been quite slow the last few days. I am right now approaching a jet can while jotting this notes. I'll let you know in a minute, what I find. Well, we will keep at it and satay alert. Manwe may be taking a rotation shortly and I will head back to Caldari space for a bit. |

Now is the time to announce that the Disciples of Ston have opened a Vocational Training Center for former slaves in State Territory. We will begin transporting interested Matriculants to this center to live and to train. Ultimately they will be transported to other places withing State, Federation, and Republic territory.
We declare now to the State, Republic, and Federation officials that we intend to break your laws by transporting former slaves through your space to our center and on to other places. We will do this covertly, because you are too thick headed and greedy to do what is needed to offer a free, self-determined existence for these rescued individuals.
We cannot wait for you to act, because it appears that you may never act. Pathetic Bureaucrats! |

While Edaine was writing his entry, I was transporting a family of 7 former slaves into State Territory on to our Vocational Training Center. The Eleutheria performed very well. The cloaking technology is fantastic. Only one close call when we passed too close to a ship warping in and we decloaked. We were able to recloak almost right away. We traveled through 7 State Territory systems to get to our destination without being targeted once. When I have more time, I will tell the story of the first group. But I have to go now. |

Two rescues were conducted this morning, one of 27 lives and one of 7 lives. I am thankful for the ship with the larger cargo capacity and the ability to make rescues very quickly. 3 of the rescued people were suffering from frostbite and all were quite frightened. These two groups seemed very traumatized. Gladius is concerned.
I have never noted this before but have often thought it. One great disadvantage of being a capsuleer is the inability, as captain of the rescue ship, to personally greet and welcome the rescued ones as they board the ship. This is left to my crew who do an excellent job. I feel removed until station-side when I can get out of the egg and among the people.

I decided that I needed to write this now, while it was happening. I am in a crowded receiving area in Matriculation Center #3. Gladius the Elder is directing staff to see to the needs of 425 rescued former slaves. You can't hear what I am hearing right now. It is the sound of trauma and relief all mixed together. 425 humans, men, women, and children, whole families, were left to die. Now they are safe and their needs are being tended to.
What brazen disregard for life can one person stoop to? How can anyone see this and not be impacted?
What if I hadn't gotten there before the two hours were up? What then? 425 people would have died a horrible death. When massive rescues like this occur, I cannot help but think about the rescues we miss. How many go unrescued? How many die that we know nothing about?

The Elutheria was put through its paces again today. First, I transported 40 former slaves, a group of scholars and students to our Academic Learning Center at our facility in Caldari space. This group consist of primarily those who were trained in partical and wave physics while slaves. They wished to continue their studies.
While in the area, I transported 3 former slaves who were rescued by another pilot and transferred to us. Ston had asked me to use the Elutheria to take them back to our Matriculation Center in Amarr space.
When you transport former slaves through State, Federation, or Republic territory, there appears a skull and crossbones symbol next to the passengers in the cargo manifest. The moment you pass into Empire space, the symbol vanishes and you no longer need to cloak. As far as the law is concerned, we are slave smugglers. This will have to do until the laws are changed and these rescued people receive official status as citizens.
Gallente, Minmatar, and Caldari governments will never admit this, but it is likely that they are afraid of the economic impact of changing the status of rescued slaves. What would they "do" with all these people? They would have to spend precious resources.
The silence of the governments tells much. |

I have a couple things to report.
First, I was able to perform our first transport of former slaves to reunite with family in Republic space. This was a Brutor pair, grandparents to be exact. They were enslaved when their settlement was raided. Their children were killed but their grandchildren survived and live in Rens.
The plan was to contact officials in Auga who would verify the identity of my passengers and then direct us on to Rens to where the reunion would occur. The final destination was one of the SOE stations in Rens. At the end of the day, the mission was a success and they are now with family and under the protection of the Sisters in the Rens system.
However, there is some serious self-evaluation that I must do and I am afraid that I must grade myself poorly. "D minus" maybe... When we arrived safely in Auga and dicked at the Brutor tribe station there. What happened next shows my inexperience and tendency to panic when caught off guard. It also illustrates the need to plan every step and procedure very carefully when in 0.4 space and below. When I exited the station, I should have immediately warped to the gate, but instead I kept thinking about getting far enough away from the station to activate my cloak. There was an outlaw nearby. I was targetted and fired upon before I could cloak. I panicked. I should have immediately warped away instead of thinking about cloaking.
He was able to drop my shields and half my armor before I was able to cloak, get my head about me and warp. I din't even know where I was warping. It ended up being a planet in the system. I do not know how I escaped. The outlaw may have simple stopped firing at me. I don't know who he was. Many of the details are a blur because I panicked. Grandma and Grandpa Brutor just laughed at me as would be expected.
As I realized that I would probably be destroyed and maybe podded, I thought about my passengers that would be killed for good and about a reunion that wouldn't happen. I was lucky or perhaps blessed by the Divine One. Who knows? The point is that I panicked when I made the incorrect decision to try to gain distance from the station rather than immediately warping. Bad mistake as a result of poor planning and inability to anticipate possible danger. This is maybe OK when I am by myself, but I had passengers.
What to do? I need to get out into low sec and practice where the risk is only me. |

19 former slaves were rescued early this afternoon. It was a unique situation that I have never encountered before. I approached the border gate and there were two abandoned (blue) cans, one labelled "free slaves" and the other labelled "*expletive* slaves." I set course for the latter and transported 19 souls aboard. while doing that, someone else retrieved the others. They warped out and I did not see who it was. We may never know what happened to those in the other can. We hope that your lives from this point will respected and given the dignity they deserve.
I don't feel like commenting right now on the kind of person who would label a can in such a way. It is interesting that someone took the time to label the cans at all and to abandon them. Ask the pilot listed below if you wish.

I also had something happen that I have never had happen before. (I call it a "Manwe Moment.) I was mining Kernite and was on my way back to the refinery when I approached the border gate and saw a jet can. Scanning it, i found that there were 6 former slaves aboard. I dumped enough cargo to make room and headed to M-center #2. On my way back to retrieve my Kernite, I saw yet another can. This one contained 208 people. I dumped more cargo and transported them aboard. They are now back at the Center with the others. This is my biggest rescue so far.

This morning's rescue was one of those interesting poetic justice sorts of situations. Along with 32 former slaves were found 4 slave traders and 10 slaver hounds on board. We interview those rescued to get an idea of the slaver hounds and whether or not they can be retrained and kept as pets. In some cases, the creatures have become attached to the former slaves and those rescued request to keep them.
The slave traders will be taken to our criminal detention facilities in Korama.

76 former slaves were rescued this morning as I returned from a mining trip. They were given accommodation in crew quarters for the trip back to the Matriculation Center. Feanor the Elder was there to welcome them when we arrived. In spite of criticism and accusation, we continue to treat these people as if they deserve to live and not be left to die in the cold of space. Some would object to this and have done so publicly. Let them. We will continue to do all we can to rescue people from death.
It is interesting that our latest detractor seems to be expressing a sort of Amarrian defensiveness. This makes no sense considering that most who appear on our wall of shame are not Amarrian. This makes no sense considering it is the hospitality of Amarrians that makes our Matriculation Centers possible. It makes no sense considering that only the Amarrians consider these rescued slaves to be no longer slaves. Ironic, isn't it?

The Disciples of Ston commend you for your brave actions. It is gratifying to see a growing group of pilots beginning to actively rescue slaves who have been abandoned in space. Some options: 1. Our Matriculation Centers are in Amarr space where we can move freely without danger. We have secured corporate sponsorship and use of facilities as well as the help of Republic Security Services in maintaining our Centers in Amarr space. We have received rescued former slaves from other pilots from time to time if you are interested. 2. For those former slaves who request immediate transport out of Amarr Space, use of a covert ops frigate is quite effective. Our Cheetah, the "Elutheria" has room for 40 passengers. I have made 3 successful trips taking former slaves into Republic and Caldari space. Gaufres, we stand by to assist in any way should you wish our help. Thanks Again. |

Thank you Mr. Sadik. We appreciate you mentioning your program. It is good for pilots to have more than one option. There needs to be multiple programs that focus on freedom and reintegration into free society. I hope many will utilze your program as well as ours. This is especially important now that there are those who wish to rescue these individuals only to return them to slavery. We must all redouble our efforts for freedom. |

It was a very good day for our Matriculation Program. Our goal has been to offer as much self-determination as possible for those we rescue. The goal of matriculation is to help these former slaves become part of communities of their choice. Freedom of choice was exercised today by a group of ten residents of Center #3. When they heard of the Electus Matari Freedom Program, they wanted to be a part of it.
I contacted Mr. Sadik and we arranged transfer. I wish to commend those I worked with today for their professionalism and courteous manners. All went very well. I said goodbye to 10 very excited friends as they took their first steps in to choosing their own destinies.
The Elutheria performed very well and we passed without notice into Republic space where the transfer was made. Mr. Sadik and Mr. Ebbon were a pleasure to work with.
This is the kind of thing we have hoped for from the beginning of this program. Today was a good day. |
