Edited by: Amanda Wilkins on 11/05/2008 14:29:51 Practical * State your timezone * Show your current corp/alliance in your settings to help the recruiters out
Honesty * Don't post with an alt - be honest to your current corp and let them you know you are looking for something else. They deserve the truth, unless you intend to backstab them. And if you intend to do that, don't be too surprised if your past follows you. * State what you will not do (mining, pvp, piracy, high sec ganking). Be honest, anything else is just a waste of YOUR OWN time - as well as the recruiters. * Don't overstate your abilities
Personality * Try not to come off as too much of a jerk - remember, personality is something we all have, SP is something we all can get. I would rather hire a 2 day old noob (in fact I do that on a daily basis) than a 50 mill tired vet who expects to be pampered). * Don't expect 30+ mill SP to be a job guarantee...
Reputation Remember that all who play this game are real people. Both those who are in the corp you join and in the corp you leave behind. Never slam the door behind you - it can slam your butt so hard you will never sit down again. Eve is about reputation. If you don't have a good one, try not to get a bad one.
Recruiters A good recruiter does not want a player just because of numbers, but turns down applications from players that do not seem to match. The best recruiters will help you find something that will match. I will gladly recommend Eve-U for any player I don't think fits with us, fx - or try to find another corp that does match better. Do not accept recruitment if the recruiter seem to just have a daily quota to fill - because most likely, he has! Don't respond to copy-paste recruitment UNLESS the copy-pasted text is just what you are looking for. Never be in a rush to find a corp. Search a few days more and find the corp you will stay with for months or years instead of days.
What corps to look for If you are new to Eve, seek out a learning corp (mine or Eve-University fx). Ask for references if need be. If you want to learn PVP, seek out Agony Unleashed, Eve-University or my own corp. All teach and are good places to learn for different reasons. If you want big alliances, don't forget to state that in your post.
Geography Not all like 0.0... and not all like NPC space or drone regions. So if you don't, remember to state it. If your corp is expecting you to be in 0.0 in a couple of months and you really don't want to, then that is not the right corp for you. On the other hand, if you want 0.0 more than anything and your corp wants to stay in high sec - then you need to find another corp.
And a plea... If you liked what I say, please reply to this topic, so it can remain on the first page and be read by others Amanda Wilkins CEO of Dromedary, Goat, Albatross and Fish Protector of the Bunnies of Stain

I'd say extend the timetable: search WEEKS for a corporation you want to stay in for a long time. Even throw in multiple applications. If you can get to know some of the corpies over voice, that's all the better, as if you can't stand them over voice you won't want to be in the corp for long.

I forgot - when you ask people to contact you, do remove your CSPA charge... it is not the ISK, but the one click more that is annoying. I also know of several FCs who will not have you in their fleets if you do not remove CSPA charge.

To add to this, I believe corporations with solid, mature leadership are the only ones worth joining. We're flying around in fantasy ships, but corporations are real organizations made of real people, with real feelings, desires, and goals. A corporation that doesn't recognize this, or one who makes unrealistic demands (for example demandind loyalty as a requirement for membership) aren't worth joining.
I agree that taking plenty of time to find the best fit possible is probably the most important thing.

Yeah, Gienah is absolutely right. At the end of the day, it is about the people in the corp, not about the skillpoints. The attitude and the personalities, not the internet spaceships you can fly.

Absolutely - we as CEOs and recruiters have to refrain from the copy-paste and remember that we are also dealing with humans when recruiting. I know I would not want to be recruited by anyone just copy-pasting a standard reply, not caring to read what I had written and not really interested in me, apart from the number of SP I have. Amanda
Once again your lack of research is clearly showing. Time stamps are a wonderful thing but again, you would have had to take the time to see that it was listed before you decided to "share wisdom" once more. Really Amanda, do you always jump to conclusions without facts? How can anyone trust your advice when you clearly do not do research?
I would not be able to endorse your idea as it is not a true reflection of the game's needs. Any recruiter expecting this of a potential applicant will find very few willing to follow this idea. It is based on the concept that corporations do not need to recruit. If that were the case, there would not be a whole forum area dedicated to corporations and alliances looking for new recruits. When even the old, well-established corps (ones older then yours as your corp was not in existence when I first started) are struggling for new recruits it is not the time to expect recruits to come to you hat in hand. I also note that your corp, barely a year old has less then 50 individuals in it. Do you consider this a strong qualification? I also note you clearly cater to new players. I'm sorry if you are not qualified for my needs but it hardly gives you the right to try and dress me down on the forums.
Sorry to burst your bubble, yet again, but it simply is not realistic.
Amanda, if you had any real concept of proper etiquette for this situation you would admit to your own shortcomings in research and apologize for jumping to conclusions.
Highly unlikely you will, however. So instead I'll kindly ask you to not attempt to take from my ideas in the future. I would expect better from someone attempting to set a standard. Looking for new sig |
