is there any T1 frig out there that can hang outside web range and do nice DPS while not giving into the thought of crossing the path of a web? ive been playing with a few setups and i can't seem to make this happen without either crazy requirements or losing speed and tackle gear for it. I was just wondering if anyone had come across anything?
The wonders of being at work bored trying to find out new things.

i think the only issues i have had is the fact at ranges outside webbers turret ships seem to rely on long range somewhat lacking ammo. i would like to get into a turret ship before a missle boat since i plan to eventually work my way out of frigs but i know im going to be hugging frigs for a rather long time and maybe 6-8 months from now work up into a cruiser.

the nonly thing you gona be able to kill is noobs in turret cruisers (still leavse quite a bit of EVE open I suppose). If I was gona do it I'd get an incursus, stick on a MWD, 125mm rails (maybe 75mm), 20km scram and cap stuff to make it run.
Not sure why but seems like that would be one of the best to me.

Crow is a T2 frig but it does a fantastic job of fighting outside webrange.
Punisher is my #2 favorite frig after the kessie but I'll admit it doesn't fight terribly well outside web range. Many pvp setups rely on a nos/neut in the utility high slot which will force you inside webrange.

yeah the out comes are pretty straight foward you will have to go into webrange.
its a hard match up. i would say kessie. and eventually upgrade to its big t2 brother (crow)

Forget about t1 frigs at long range, its either go right in and hope they cant track you or abandon all attempts at dps, wich is never great anyway. If you want to use a t1 frig for pvp, build a nice fast tackler with sensor booster and at least 1 point, and just talckle around. T2 is a bit better, ceptors deal ok damage while maintaining good speed.. AFs are bad though, slow as hell and not much an dps boost over gank fitted ceptors, cept maybe the ishkur and harpy(range). ---

just a pointer, i did what your doing with my main, stuck in a frig for 6-8 months while i trained up learning/gunnery/tanking skilsl all to lvl 4 + 5.
but trust me, you wont be doing much. yes t1 frigs can do pvp, and can run missions ect... but your looking at a 3-4week training time to get yourself into a interceptor/ af and kit it out. just something to think about ;), specially when most t2 frigs can run up to lvl 3's.

The reason i was trying to find an alternative is because a few of my friends left wow for eve and are looking to get into some quick fun pvp. I told them to go minmatar and caldari for quick pvp. I was trying to come up with something to have them last a little longer. With their low skill points i would imagine they would not last very long being hammered on by any ship with a web.

It really depends on what you're doing with the ship really I guess. AF's most certainly hit harder than their T1 counterparts and some of them can put up damage numbers more suitable for a cruiser than a frigate.
As near as I can tell, most AF's seem that they are best suited for an engagement envelop that is considered suicidal - point blank (less than 1.5km). In a ship class that suffers from quite a bit I've thus far had fair luck using assault ships as tacklers in situations where most tacklers would be foiled. Of course, I do it by breaking lots of ship rules (I use afterburners instead of MWD since I'm almost certainly going to be webbed to a halt anyway for example).
I'm also fairly convinced that a pack of AF's are perfectly sutied to hunt battleships - if they all get close the battleship's traditional defenses against tackle are nullified (i.e. the battleship can neut a ship to 0 cap pretty handily but if you have 3 or 4 af's it's unlikely he will be able to manage his neut well enough to actually get away). The biggest mistake I think people make about AF's is to assume that they should be able to hunt cruisers and other frigates in the way a HAC can hunt similar classes of ships. The AF ONLY shines when it's fighting much bigger foes because it's glaring weaknesses of lack of speed is compensated for by it's tiny size.

Please don't tell me you think AF's aren't able to kill other frigs.
Some can do okayish against cruisers, had a few fun fights against cruisers in my jag recently. Never ended up with a clear victory though because of the lack of long range scram on my current setup (to be fixed as soon as I get back too high sec). but yea, with a bit of caution they can do respectably well and shouldn't be underestimated.

Depends on the AF and the frig (specifically T2 frigs is what I'm refering too, not the T1 ships), just like it depends on the AF and the cruiser in question.
AF's get a lot of bad rap, and SOME of that is legitimate (missing fourth bonus, mass of a destroyer are valid complaints in my book). My point is simply that the AF CAN be very effective if you use it in scenarios most people think is suicide - I.E. attacking a much larger target from well within web range in a small group (3 - 4 assault ships).

Get a small frigate gang going. Rifter / Punisher for web + dps Huron for fast point + standard missile spam at 20km. Griffon - for incapacitation of the target.
3 players in frigates are running maybe 1mil all together fit; anything they kill is going to turn a profit. With a griffon your odds of survival and success go way, way up. Once you get some piloting experience, you'd be able to kill anything in lowsec you have the DPS to break.
Yes, they'll die. Maybe die a lot. Just remember that it costs nothing, and always caries a valuable lesson with it :)
Good hunting.

i wonder the performance factor of 3 kests working together. I am going to have to look around and try out some different fits. I wonder which one of the guys would be whilling to fly the suicidal griffin.
But if anything im thinking a pack of kests would be quite a small annoyance. would i be wrong? Im thinking point + standard missle spam. My only fear would be drones but nothing coordination can't kill i figure.
It will take practice thats for sure.

Anything Amarr can do it. I killed destroyers and armed industrials with a Crucifier, probably the most paper-thin frigate in the game, by fitting beam lasers with microwave, scrambling them and disrupting their turrets from my optimal, 14km.

My condor reaches out to 11-12km with Rockets. Not exactly great DPS or tank, but a cheap option considering you can choose damage types and remain around 1200m/s with an AB. _

You can get ridiculous range and good speed from a condor (almost 50km with light missiles), but the dps is generally pathetic.

I killed a Kessie 1v1 in a Condor, recently, but it was because he didn't notice that I was 500m outside his missile range.

3 rifters, one with web and scram, one with 2 TD's and one with 2 caldari jammers and then standard fit the rest of the way.
