So I listened to the dev blog, and I like the sound of all of it, sounds very exciting. These days I am more 'carebear' as I hated the "oh crap now I've lost my ship, that's my evening gone replacing parts and saving cash" part of pvp. But the new patch is on it's way, and i'm thinking I like the sound of faction warfare.
So, I'm very prepared to fit out a cheap frigate/cruiser and go and have some fun. But I dont want to throw my 800mil Paladin into it. But do I have a choice? Once I've joined my faction and had a days fun of pvp, amd I then totally screwed one saturday evening when I just want to run a mission to suddenly be jumped by four or five of the opposing faction to gank me?
This doesnt sound like fun all of a sudden. I mean as it stands at the moment in low sec, you can fit out a cheap ship, take it down, have your pvp and then head back to high sec (or not if you get blown up). But you dont have to take your 500+mil ships into low sec. I get the impression with faction warfare that once you're in that faction, you're fair game wherever you are, whatever you're doing.

That could be an issue, certainly.

You can find PvP that easily? Lol!
I dunno really but I think we may be seeing a classic Eve trade-off.
Constant risk (but probably quite minor if enough people are involved) in exchange for PvP without delay or stupid station/gate camping.
Tbh I suspect the risk will be minor. If several thousand people are fighting across several dozen low-sec systems I suspect that an 'off-duty' FW combatant can do their own thing deep in high-sec with little risk.

I doubt that, sounds like a good oppurtunity for suicide gankers to gank without concord interfering.

The new faction navies will be pretty tough so you should be fairly safe in your own faction's hisec space. Now you will get an extra adrenaline rush when you undock to go run your 100th damsel in distress mission.

Perhaps this is asking too much, but will these faction navies be: 1. Destroyable with enough effort 2. Drop loot and/or tags when destroyed
Because that would be awesome. --------------- Originally by: CCP Prism X Hey I have an idea: "Let's not endure any more of your spam for the weekend!" Enjoy your time away from our forums.

I had the excact same concern, Im primarly a carebare and dont have the time for long pirate hunting evenings, so some easy access PVP without hours of tracing down a fair sized target. So this sounds like a very nice option for me, but not if I have to give up the carebare mission running and mining. People will just avoid the faction fleets by cloaking, wait for a mission runner, gang him and warp away, this will just lead to suicide ganking, without the suicide part.

Hmm - perhaps if you accepted a Militia Mission you'd get co-opted into the war effort for the duration of that mission? (And hence a war target).
Mission over and you can return to the relative safety of "empire". Obviously the rewards would be rather restricted for such a mercenary attitude but that might work well?

That's what I'm concerned about. I like the idea of the fun pvp part and doing my bit for the Amarr Navy and all, but I didnt spend hours and hours, no wait, weeks, mission running to get the cash for that Paladin just to lose it to some gankers in high sec and then be back to square one.
I heard on the dev blog that once you're part of a faction, you will be shot at by the NPCs of opposing factions if you're in their space. What I worry about though is the majority of a corp all travelling down to say Amarr space, scanning out some mission runners, then their CEO goes and hits 'join Minmatar faction'. Then you've got a whole gank squad in faction space who didnt meet any resistance in getting there. Yeah that's a really perverse and somewhat time consuming way of doing things, but just look at Goonswarm and their ilk. People *will* be prepared to be that annoying. You only have to look at those examples and at other MMOs to see the lengths people will go to to make other people's online time a misery.

yeah I like that. Would be interesting to see what the devs have to say. They seem to be watching this thread so I look forward to the ongoing discussion :) Dont get me wrong, I dont mean to come across very negative. I really really like the idea of the patch in and of itself, and I really want to be a part of it, but there are the concerns also that could ruin for me what looked to have been so much fun.

I think that something like that would work, the duration could even be extended to a few hours after your mission is complete, so once you accecpt a mission you have signed up for X hours.
What about non-militia people that are helping militia people will as targets for the oppisite faction?

You can already destroy faction navy ships in high-sec. They just don't do much for you, and they keep respawning, so I suggest not doing it anywhere other than a station where you can re-dock. ----- CEO, Astrum Contract Services Group ACSG Open For Recruitment (AU/AsiaPac/Late Night PST) |

It sounds like you could not sign up but still be able to shoot people who do without concord interference. They might get kill rights for it though, not sure.
Personally I like the idea of adding more ways for legitemate pew-pew in empire. It will only help more people get comfortable with the idea.
As for the paladin, maybe just put it on the shelf for a while. If you really like faction warfare and start getting into PvP a lot you can sell it or if you decide to go back you can leave the faction warfare system and start using it again.

A long time ago I did a bunch of missions for caldari state, eventually pushing my gallente standings to over -5. At the time I did that because I knew the faction ships that would attack you were you to enter gallente space were 1 cruiser and 2 frigs that wouldn't even attack you in the first 30 seconds.
Now though, with the faction navies becoming pretty tough, is it still going to be possible to enter space where you have -5 faction standings, or is it gonna be instapop goodbye? :)

It dosnt only matter if they are tough. If they react like concord 30 sec to arrive, you havent won anything if you join FW. You have even lost your (not perfect) security in high sec. Because CONCORD can not be tanked. The navies can even be destroyed and tanked (remote reps). The missions which will send you in hostile territory must be completable and that means the navies must be tankable and destoyable.
How to gank the FW people in highsec: 1.) Pirates bring there sec status a little up that they are not attacked by concord. 2.) Pirates join FW 3.) Make a remote rep gang in front of mission hubs and wait for your prey to undock. You know they are NPC fitted and you can easily gank their CNR Golems or whatever they fly. 4.) Grab loot
That can be easily done in Jita 4-4. You are even more save because of the undock lag of your prey. Your repote reps are running and you dont have to fear concord.
You really think that you can bring mission runners to join FW if they are nowhere as safe as they had been without FW?

From this point of view FW is not pvp lite but is even harder than 0.0 pvp in some aspects: if the warring alliances don't have active wardecs but just fight themselves in 0.0, the members can come to empire and recover financially (mine/mission/inter-region trade etc.) which FW participants can't (unless it's easy to opt out and opt in and opt out again etc. without any restrictions).
Don't think it's a wise decision to use golems or cnrs for missions, while being active in FW. But it also has been announced that lvl 5 missions will be more profitable, so i think there will be a lot of changes for the more established missionrunners. If they like to join FW and have to watch their backs anyway, flying t2 only and no more faction/officer-toys, they can do the missions in lowsec (in groups) aswell or even start with lvl 5s, if they are organized properly (hope there will be specific corps for FW + lvl 5 missionrunners). I also hope the devs won't touch the neutrality between some pirate factions and empire factions, e.g. Angels with Caldaris and Guristas with Gallentes, so that we can continue running missions for pirate factions AND empire factions.

Ok as a newer player I am not quite understanding this and in a way I am and its terrifying.
So if I claim for the Gallante Faction. I can now no longer go into Caldari space?
Basically instead of being "safer" in high sec space, since nowhere is really safe, now its pretty much open field, if a caldari faction member enters gallante space and I am a gall faction member, I'm screwed even though im in 1.0 space? Dont like the sound of that.
So once I claim a faction, say Gallante, I've closed myself off to pretty much 60% of the eve online game world? I'm not really sure that makes much sense. I havent even gotten the chance to explore other faction regions like Amarr, or Min, or those places.
So basically I can get a mission that takes me into another faction space and its a pretty good chance Ill get ganked...
Someone needs to explain this because as a new player I'm not really liking this.

Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of FW if you were safe from it after joining? I thought the purpose was to bring some large scale fighting to high/low sec, take control of system and whatnot. Its starting to sound like a glorified wardec, where the opposing faction has NPC gaurds to protect them in their "home turf". At least with a normal wardec there is no NPC's to help shoot you down. __________________________________________________________

The Dev recording didn't sound like that.

well, think about it, you said that if YOU go into caldari space, you will be attacked correct? so if your in 1.0 space and a Caldari appears there that is against your faction (in this case the gallente) then all other players in the same system you are in will also be able to target that Caldari player, so if your at least kinda deep behind your factions lines, then you should be safe, because no person against your faction is gona be that far into space, also, you DO NOT have to pick a side, you can remain neutral in the conflict, so you will still be able to do missions, and go into another faction's space and not be a war target; and another thing, if you sign up for a faction, you are pretty much telling them, ok, lets go kill some Caldari scum, and you will also be able to kill other targets, just at a price, you will also be targeted, and it will be fair game, again you can remain neutral, hope that eases some of your tensions, lol
