Zobiana	Posted - 2008.05.16 13:57:00 - [1] Before any of you hop in here and flame me for this, let me state first, i'm not the victim this conversation refers too, I just think people like this are the worst sort of loser in the virtual world. A conversation in the NPC corp i'm in (yes this is a new character) about some guy can flipping new players made me send the guy the following message: Zobiana 2008.05.16 03:36 You should be ashamed of yourself. A character as old as that one, can flipping newbs in high sec. At least grow a set and can flip someone who might actually give you a fair and fun fight. Oh I forgot, people like you don't know how to fight against anyone who might actually kill them, you'd rather prey on characters less than a week old so you can brag about how big a virtual *** you have because your real one is so tiny and pathetic. Loser. Zobiana He didn't like being called on his crap so he responded with: Hellroxx 2008.05.16 03:39 well dont know bout the * part but gankin noobs is fun when nothin else to do u idiot. and its not my fault he stole back from the can should be a little smarter but it easiet to whine then to actually learn how to play the game i guess u stupid er :) * Now, if any of you bother to check the age of Hellroxx, you'll see he's well over a year old... and still finds it fun to gank 6 day old characters. So here he is, a character that should easily be able to alpha pretty much any 6 day old character in the game and he finds it "fun" to gank people who have absolutly no ability to defend themselves against him in any way, shape, or form. I find it hilarious that he calls me an idiot and **er. He really should be looking in the mirror at himself, but people like this never do learn to see how what their doing shows them to be the biggest, most pathetic losers in the virtual world. Now that i've said my peace on this, you can all start the flame war but just remember, while this is a game and while this type of "behavior" is allowed within the basic game mechanics and rules, it still doesn't make it right. Bullies prey on those unable to defend themselves because they have a psychological need to be "powerful", Mass Murderers do the same thing, for the same reasons. Zobiana

Can flipping a mining op - organized by an established corporation is fun and can be rewarding, both in stolen ore and in destroyed ships with good mods. On the other hand, one also runs a risk that those guys have a few combat ships standing by. So, there, I will offer you support that the guy who can-flips noobs for easy kills is a ****er.

While he may not be intentionally doing it, he's actually doing these noobs a SERVICE by popping their cheap noobie ships. He's teaching them that EvE is a harsh and unforgiving world, and that their safety is their own responsibility. He's also teaching them about the game mechanics of can flipping, and why it's important to have a partner and to watch your cans. Also to not use jetcans. Obviously teaching is not his INTENT, his intent is to get an easy kill and have a little fun at someone else's expense. But, to smart noobs, it is a great learning experience, and is often done while they are still flying the free noobie ship. It also weeds out those who don't really understand what Eve is all about and would end up quitting anyway. Of course, if they play for a few months and get some ISK before learning the hard lessons, they start stupid whine threadnoughts. So this "bully" was also helping keep the whine-noughts on the forums to a minimum. So don't let the "bullies" get to you, they serve a needed purpose in EVE.

Hellroxx could have popped the guy flying the cheapest, weakest frigate in the game, by flying past him, rolling down the window and throwing spitballs at him. There was no "contest" to the fight, no challenge, not even loot worth taking the time to kill a newb for. The only reason he did it was because a 1 year old plus character found it "fun to gank newbs" because he couldn't find "anything else to do". Sadly... This poor soul... over a year old... was unable to find anyone worthy of fighting except some 6 day old newb character. Zobiana

They like it when one side pushes another into confrontation out of frustration. Might makes right in Eve. And besides, there is a window that pops up when the newbies try to steal the ore back. They learn a lesson either about how important those messages are and how the game mechanics work or about how Eve isn't the game for them.

He came back a little while later in a hawk, which lasted a bit longer. He didn't smack, and he posted both losses on his corp killboard, which is more than a lot of people can manage. Okay, so can-flipping noobs isn't going to win you any medals. But maybe being introduced to how harsh Eve is before you lose all your ISK to a high-sec suicide gank is a good thing.

I used the word *** because their really is no reason to be crass, and I figured the guy wouldn't be able to understand the reference due to his exceptionally low mental abilities anyway and wanted to frustrate him some.

I would argue the "service" he is providing is demonstrating to new players that they should quit EVE because it's full of greifers. I see how you are trying to justify such behavior in an RP sense. Unfortunately in the real world, allot of people will get turned off by getting blown up during the trial and quit the game. Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application.

Can baiting in a new player area (such as Chaven, Kisogo etc) is a bannable offense (GM's correct me if I am wrong here) but not in other areas. This wasn't a case of can baiting, but one of a significantly older player (over a year old) killing a 6 day old character that was mining by doing the can flip bit. His excuse "It was fun to gank newbs" because he had "nothing better to do". Z
