As most of us are familiar, when you are invited to a gang you get the following dialog window;
Quote: Treelox wants you to join their fleet, do you accept?
No one in this fleet is in a corporation that is currently at war. However, be aware that if fellow fleet members' corporations go to war with other corporations you become vulnerable to attack by members of those corporations. You do not have the right to attack those parties unless they attack you first.
NOTE: Attacking members of your fleet is not a CONCORD sanctioned activity and may result in security status loss and police response.
What I am wondering is how will Factional Warfare affect this?
Will we now get warnings that the person inviting us to gang is at war with the *insert faction* and you are now vulnerable to attacks from that factions militia?
Will this become the new flavor of the "Lofty Scam"?
Have the Devs considered this potential abuse/exploit/fun?
Im not complaining, I am just curious. I'd like to know this in advance before it goes live, as im sure many others will aswell. --

Just out of intrest, does anyone ever use the gang war for its intended usage? I cannot think of a practical use for it at all other than scams since joining the gang wont let you fire first anyway.
Perhaps its time just to remove transfers of war from gang to solve the potential FW problem. --

While I have no problem with its removal, can you image the forum outcry of the united scammers and griefers front, if it was removed. You think the nerf carrier thread got out of hand..... :P --

I would prefer it got fixed so joining the gang will let me fire first without concord. Since that cannot happen, I just cannot visulise a valid and non-scammer use for it at all. --

I gave up beta testing long ago, when Lord British stopped sending me free Ultima's to try before their retail release, way before UO.
I especially have not intrest in particapting in the test on SiSi for FW, since there is nothing about it that appeals to my personal style of play. What I am concerned about is if I will have to be wary of a new potential way that people can flag me with or without my knowledge.
I would have figured it was a pretty straight forward question I asked in my OP, but I'll accept your refusal to directly answer it as I normally do CCP's dissemination of "Offical" information. I get the shaft and just have to wait with the other 90% of the player base till it hits TQ in a potentiall buggy or poorly implemented form.
You may counter this by saying, thats exactly why you invited me to SiSi's test next weekend. All I have to say is that the couple times I have been on SiSi for "stress test" it was about as enjoyable as having my balls in a vise. Added to the fact that I am not a qualified QnA person, I dont see the benifit to me or to you sir of me attending.

So, you are in essence to important to find out yourself, or simply to lazy to do anything but whine about potential issues in the forums.
Yeah, CCP is so going to answer your post saying you are the greatest and they will jump into SiSi to test this little thing for you right away..

too important.....
No I really dont think so, but I really have no desire to particpate in FW, it doesnt appeal to me in any fashion. The only way that I can see it interacting with me and my playstyle is the gang invite popup, and potential flagging.
I avoid SiSi like the plague, since every time I have logged on it for a Stress Test I get a nice slide show, with multiple disconnects. But please feel free to join the test next Saturday and tell us all how wonderful it is. Ill be waiting :) --

The gang war mechanic is fine (for its intended use) and changing it makes no sense. If you prevent the out of corp gang members from being shot , it is then possible to give gang bonuses with command ships with perfect impunity (not trivial when using maxed claymores in nanogangs) But if you allow said members to shoot war targets , you can include as many friends as you like to blob the crap out of your enemies. This negates war dec costs and limits , with that system the privateers would only need a dozen alts in gang to have killrights on half the Eve population.

I get the feeling they didn't even think of it and so they will just chalk it up as another feature and I will chalk it up to poor game mechanics and life will go on. I have no clue why they don't fix things like that anyway.
Mind you I ve never fallen victim to that game mechanic but then again I know it exist unlike most of eve that donst fly afk and read the forums while doing it.
PS I dont care if they blow up my ship while I am afk flying that was my choice to do it.

Translation: "Don't ask me how it's supposed to work, I just develop the game."
It's always reassuring when the developers don't even know what the "intended" behavior is supposed to be. I understand bugs (although CCP has the lions share there), but this is something that should be known from concept. ------------------------------------------------- **** You're out of your mind!

You asked "What I am wondering is how will Factional Warfare affect this?"
A Dev told you to join the test and find out for yourself, it's not his job to spoon feed you, your mom can do that for you.
He was kind enough to be less harsh than my version, and you completely missed his point.

I am a little bit concerned that we are now starting to see a lot of these "wait until next week and check it out on SISI" responses. On Thursday when people began to freak out about the tiny bit of "view from 100,000 feet" data that was released then, Hammer and Greyscale and others made at least a half-dozen calming posts that seemed to promise imminent devblogs with more detail. Of course, the degree of imminence was not specified, but the connotations and contexts seemed intended to suggest that our patience would not be unduly tried. I really and honestly thought they were trying to signal that we'd see more devblogs that day, though of course they could not promise.
That was Thursday. This is Saturday, which means probably no devblogs until Monday at the earliest. Really, go back and read those first threads, see if they don't seem to hold out the promise of more details sooner than "middle of next week sometime."
Meh, whatever, they are busy, that's how it goes. But does it worry anybody else that we are now hearing "wait until it hits SISI and check it out for yourself?" I'm starting to fear that means no more Devblogs for awhile. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |
