Last week I was looking for a couple of services that EVE players provide, but the Sell forum is a mess if your looking for a few particular services. I was thinking it would be nice if all the EVE Online services were listed on a separate searchable and categorized web site.
Some features I would want in such a site: - Categories (website hosting, banks, haulers, mercenaries, gambling houses, etc.) - IGB version (so it can be accessed ingame) - reviews /ratings (customers noting their experiences with the service) - comments (to ask and answer questions) - Eve verified accounts (so only the actual character can post a service, comment or review)
The idea is that it's free to use (to reach as many clients as possible), so there isn't any direct profit. The indirect profit for me would be the ability to quickly look up services I need at the time, I suspect/hope that others would also see the benefit in that. If you have good ideas, criticism, or general comments, feel free to post them here.
The hosting shouldn't be a problem (can be had for a few a couple of million isk a month). The core software shouldn't be a problem, I'm familiar with the Joomla CMS, and there is directory/review/comment components available for it (someone on here even made a component so it's usable with IGB). Two things that might present a challenge, the design and the component that would verify EVE users. My time is currently limited (I'm moving shortly and a whole house needs to be furnished and the old one needs to be defurbished), and the time I do have available for EVE is mostly spent doing missions (need to get seven research characters up in standing before the end of the month). Normally I would do the design myself and try to make the component, but on the short term I would have to find a designer and a programmer to do the work for isk.
I'm willing to invest 300M isk in such a project (that's half my current trading budget), that's not enough to pay the designer and the programmer, so I'm looking for fellow investors. Please keep in mind that this project will not see any direct isk rewards.
If you have any doubts about this venture, I intend to use a service such a Chriba provides to hold the invested isk and only pay out the designer/programmer when their part of the job is finished according to specifications. If at all possible I would require the EVE user verification component to be released under the GPL, so others could also use it.

Edited by: Riethe on 18/05/2008 15:54:28 Well... Someone is doing an idea similar to that:
http://www.eve-all.com/ (intentional lack of a hyperlink)
But don't let it stop you, because it's a terrible looking website and it doesn't seem to get much development done on it.
Also I don't know that it intends to have IGB support and a few other things on your list.

I'd like to see one that gets used, since the stickies in Eve Sell forum does not get updated as often as one would like. Of course a website will also be prone to that problem, unless you figure out a way to solve that (i.e. that the service provider have to log in with a certain frequency to keep his service listed as available)

Edited by: Locin WeEda on 19/05/2008 20:07:47 It is a great list, but it is still dependend on one person to update it. What happens if that person quits Eve, or leave for an extended time?
1 month update time is a bit too infrequent for my taste, when a website can get you listed/delisted instantly.
