My proposal is this, it should be possible with defender missiles in say a Drake to defend your gang/squad/wing from enemy missiles even if your not targeted them and even if they're not targeting them, just need to be flashy red.
It can work like so, instead of say having defenders work in any launcher have a special dedicated "Missile Defence Launcher" which can be set to personal or local modes.
You can even have a whole range of skills for chance to intercept and intercept damage even get a whole slew of pvp related ECM/ECCM skills to foil defender missiles.
The point is to give the ability a decent ability that also uses skills to give players the ability to use missile boats for something other then DPS, now i dont suggest some end all be all for missiles that some how renders caldari useless nyt, what I suggest is simply adding another level of gameplay for small-medium fleet engagements some that makes it just a tad harder to use missiles indiscriminately but doesnt make caldari obsolete. I do not wish to nerf Caldari let us get this clear I simply want more game play and more possible roles to play for engagements.

I like the idea, but that would severely unbalance gameplay. Missile boats are already gimped by the long flight times to target, compounded by the fact that in the year 549874984649 AD we still dont have fire and forget missiles.
So now we have slow missiles that your ship is required to be present to guide, AND they can all be shot down by a single AEGIS battle cruiser.
Like I said, I like the idea.. And it COULD be done and balanced.. But I don't see CCP making the drastic changes that would be nessessary to balance it.

I completely disagree on this ship. All the races are pretty balanced right now, but this type of ship would mean that caldari would end up being completely unbalanced compared to the turret boats. I have no idea why people keep calling for this ship because it would unbalance the game.

i gather that missiles have HP, so its harder to swat down a torp with defender missiles then a light missile, for example. why not have a skill that drastically increases the HP of your missiles. make the reqs to train that skill fairly basic, but give it a long train time.
that wya its not ahrd to get, but only dedicated missle users will train it to IV or V.
at lvl 5, it might give something like a 300% bonus to the HP of missiles. that way this ship would be effective at defending the group from missiles, but against a skilled opponent, its still a waste of time.

afaik torpedoes take 2 defender missiles. everything else takes at most one. not sure on citadel torps.
a missile hp boost skill would be very nice.

hrm, clearly i was mis-informed. in any case, i would be looking at the kind of thing where whilst a dedicated anti-missile platform could provide a buffer, it could never provide a complete shield, not even from one missile ship.
