Like in the game "Darkspace" you had an insta jump command, basically your ship would instantly jump in your current heading a short distance although the chances of you hitting a large planetary body was generally fairly non zero.
What I would like in EVE is the ability to work 1 AU in any direction to avoid death, since most combat generally involves you getting warp scrambled this shouldnt effect game play that much just make it a little easier for large ships to warp, although i would suggest some kind of penalty like modules automatically going offline, random chance of damage to modules, etc etc.

No thanks, I'd use this to escape so much combat, seeing as how I'm pretty much always aligned and prepared when in dangerous situations.
Imagine how many haulers on AP in lowsec will escape tackling?
And couldn't I just align and warp after to same range?
Nice idea, annoying implications. Live and Let Die...All of it...null |

the warp drive in eve must lock onto a gravitational body.
you cant warp without a target. eve does do emergency warps that break this rule, buts they only occur either when you log out without agro, and dont have control of your ship, or you get epic lag while jumping and are warped so you dont fall victim to a gatecamp while the system loads.
making a warp to nowhere function available to players breaks the backstory, and although you might not care about the backstory, CCP has spent about 5 years building it, and they do care.

If i'm not mistaking this was possible a long time ago, and got removed for obvious reasons.

I don't remember this ever being in here, but it's certainly something that's been asked for many, many times.
I'd be up for it. There was some fluff canon reason why you couldn't do it - I think it had something to do with having a sufficiently large gravitational body to 'lock on' to. Only problem is now with the emergency warp, that's a load of nonsense *grin*
This would be very hard to counter though, especially through blockades, and undocking.

SISI is testing the "Align to" button now. You can align and if you need an emergency warp out... you can warp very fast. ------------------------ "There was this bright flash of light - and now this egg shaped thing is on my screen - did I level up?" |

It would be way to easy to get a pod out after losing a ship while not being in a bubble and it would be an incredible easy way to make scan-safespots around a gate, pos, whatever.
So I am not a huge fan of this.

An "align to" button would be very nice.

The align to button that should come in the next expansion should help out a lot. It is on Singularity currently. Should help give people a better chance to escape DDs. I think a run button would give to much advantage to my targets. If your can't take the time to even align either manually now or by pressing a button later than you should be able to get ganked.

A shortcut to warp to selected would be good. Also double click action on item, which works as approach (and open), would be good as align action for farther celestials (or does it work that way already?). As to the OP's suggestion on warp forward, obviously NO. Also, does the direction the bow of the ship turned to with the speed of 0 (usually there is some inertia, yes) affects the warp out time? at all? Think it should not. |

i'm sorry sir but you are fail. on topic: its a good idea, but it shouldn't be availble in emergencies. if it had a 30 second timer before it started to align your ship it would be nice though...make it easier to make safe spots got safe spot?
