We are a very young corp with very young members, all about a month old. Right now we have been focusing on mining to build ISK and get us all into better ships, mostly barges. We don't pvp, but we will go ratting once in awhile and we all run missions when we can. Now we do mine in .5, but we scouted till we found a lonely little belt that was being ignored by everyone else.
Now we find ourselves the target of a war declaration. There are only 5 of us in the corp, so asking if anyone pi**ed anyone off was quick. We have no idea why we got targeted, but I have sent an email to their CEO asking why and also letting them know that the 50 mil it's going to cost them per week is far and above what they could ever get from us.
The best warship we have is my Drake, there is no way we can face them down. As CEO I'm trying to figure out the best course of action and could use a few suggestions if anyone has one.
Thanks

The corp that have wardec you just want some easy kills and some giggles. How many players does the corp have that have wardec you? what is their avarage age (character age)?
Bigger is not better. You are 5 in your corp and I guess you can all fly frigs. Get some frigs, fit it with plain T1 and have fun. Even if you get blown up, you gain some experience at PVP.
If you leave your corp, they win. Fight them and have some fun. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many

they have 15 members and the CEO has been around for 3 years. the CEO has been in 12 corps in that time.
It has been proposed that we camp their HQ this weekend. I must say i find this idea to my liking.
Thanks for the advice.

1) stop using expensive and/or big ships 2) if you have implants get a jump clone, also make sure your clone is updated 3) find out why it happened, and perhaps how to solve it 4) get into frigates. be fast and agile and use out of corp scouts 5) stop looking like a target "we mine, we're in it for the isk" 6) learn active defense, scanner, scouting, aligning, bookmarks or find someone to help you 7) enjoy the experience you're getting

See this is why I have no desire to start or join a new corp.
Here you are minding your own buisness and out of nowhere comes a random war dec.
It happens to nearly all corps.
Well as others said good luck and hope you gain at least some experience.

Since no one has provided you with a guide, here is a good one for dealing with war decs.
Remember that the other guys have probably read that guide as well. Hopefully they are counting on the fact that you have not.
Have fun with it. If you play this out, the biggest risk to your corp will be that everyone will want to move on to find more war decs once this one if over.
Good luck.

Ki Tarra, thank you very much for the guide. Thats a big help. I had thoughts along those lines, but the guide gave me much more information.
War counsel set for tonight to discuss our course of action. I think these guys are gonna want to gang run these guys with frigates and a couple cruisers. But we'll see what happens.
Thanks everyone for the advice.

Best bet:
If you still have a window of time before the wardec is officially active, setup a safety net. If you run missions, or mine a network of systems, go to each one, place at least five or more extraplanar safe points. Never stray outside of your safety net. Always group up as a corps when you are online and in open space. If war targets warp into range, immediately assess the numbers game, (having previously assessed each member of their corps for character age, etc.), if you feel you have a chance, by all means give it your best and enjoy the rush, but if you feel overwhelmed by their numbers or well outmatched, warp your fleet to the extraplanar points stopping at most a few minutes at each point. You can get more fancy than this, but this will be a good start for you.
People will get bored really quick with a smaller corps that has a good safety net and a reasonable fight-or-flight reaction to encounters in space. If you run simply by default they will only hunt you harder, but if you run only when truly outmatched, and you fight back when there are relatively balanced forces, they will likely get bored quick because you are no easy prey which was the reason they dec'd you in the first place.

Also, check your corp description and bio for intel. I war-decked a corp a little while back and their founder's bio contained a recruiting ad which told us:
1) what system they were based in 2) what time zones they were active in 3) the day and time of their weekly mining op 4) that they had a freighter 5) their public chat channel, from which I got their member's names
I would say get some T1 frigates (lots of them, so you can dock and get another when you lose one) and just have fun with the fighting. Use locator agents to find their systems and bring the fight to them... they currently have an advantage because the fight is on their terms, and they can get away for a while to run missions when they aren't feeling like PVP. Camp their systems instead of your own, and you turn the tables.
Next time, you should be the ones declaring war on others, it gives you much more control.

Kudos to you and your mates for not jumping corps and choosing to defend yourselves as best you can. Of course the odds are against you but that's when we can learn the most and, with the right attitude, have the most fun.

get a 2-3 or more ships ready for each gamer to be able to fight back. set a station as base and let them come to you. if something happens you can always dock to get a new ship and fly back to continue. fly in couples and keep an eye in the local. point out the enemy corp members and set them on red so you know they are there (in the local) the moment you enter a system. finally keep an eye if they have a friendly corp that could be doing the scouts for them.
