Thanks for the support! I love you guys!
I want this added as much as you!
I'm drooling thinking about the vids people can make with this, and a secure file format for the battle is definately a good idea to prevent faked vids.
( There's always someone gotta ruin the party eh? )

although I don't want it to be able to record anything more than final values speed/distance/damage/etc. No saving of modules at all(metagaming) or anything that you couldn't get from a normal video.
Cool, the record feature would have all that info stored, and the idea is that it would play it back in real-time, allowing you to analyze the fight in great detail, with frame-by-frame information available to you. No harm in offering a statistical presentation of the fight recorded. CCP are fans of trends and demographics so it's something that they themselves might even use!! Great idea!

So, should I give up on the idea entirely or what? Cause none of the guys at CCP have commented on the idea, not even submitted an opinion. It'd be nice if you guys just told me it'd never happen at least
Been pushing the idea since Oct '07, and I know you guys are busy. But you're not too busy to tell me it'll never happen. Maybe then I could concentrate on another idea instead.

Edited by: Flawliss on 12/08/2008 06:36:36 Not only is it exactly what the player base needs, but its also a Marketing group's wet dream. Knowing that the player base as a whole (even if the majority doesn't make movies for web view, you know people will show their friends the last big awesome fight they had.)
Tie in the corporation recruiting Angle and you have a player driven dynamic use of EVE's own awesomeness to market that awesomeness in many ways, you can't hire or afford asmany marketing guru's as would be provided, free of charge, by adding such a feature!!
EDIT: DO it! DO IT!

Even a really simple recorder would be good. It should perhaps just need to record the script, rather than the action itself.
It's difficult to tell if it's feasible, but I'd love to have some personal videos to show to my friends. Seeing frapp'd videos on youtube just doesn't cut it, since
it is like hearing sound from underwater.
In-game action VCR, would be awesome to integrate in the newsfeeds and chronicles, in fact.

Well a lot of people are getting off the Fraps-boat cause it sucks, but what sucks even more is warpin-PEWPEW-warpout vids in squinty codec, using the Deafpeg-4 audio codec, which are sometimes boring as hell to watch, as well as an eyesore.
I just wanna see dynamic camera views, with the kind of power like show the just HP of each ship getting blasted somewhere YOU decide on the screen and viewpoints from the tip of Torps, slowly encroaching on their target, which would look sweet! The best part by far is that if you've made a battle 'script', then if the models got updated again, all you'd have to do is run the script, and record the same fight, with the same 'script' and re-record no need to be all "Now I gotta make that video again ..." Man the Devs could even use this to keep the promo vids up-to-date!
C'mon CCP!

Its a nice idea and recording the information from fights doesnt sound all to difficult. All the information needed is already available on your client, its just a matter of recording it.
But recording is only one part, the challenge will be in being able to replay the fight. Some kind of system will have to be developed to do this. If you want all those fancy features of camera panning, .avi export etc.. thats going to take a lot of time to code.. x |

You might be right there, but surely even without the camera tracks feature, this addition in it's simplest form would still be an immense improvement over the current one.
I mean, you could just replay the same scene several times, but just using different camera angles, instead of setting up complicated camera tracks altogether and still be able to create spectacular fight scenes, far higher in quality than what's currently available to Eve Online PvPers who document their fights.
Come on CCP! I'm not the only one who'd love to see this added to the game!!

If this idea gets your support, community, then not only will it most likely become a sticky, it might also become a viable addition to the game!!! But it needs your support first!!

Lose it.
Also Irish. Also into video editing (because I actually work in the film biz and use real video edit tools...but too lazy to turn Eve into work by ****ing about with monitor splits and converter boxes).
You know why else this would be good (and in fact more important than for making cool videos)? You could review PvP or missions where you got killed and study your mistakes...with no server load. Right now I use the log to do that but it's rather limited - especially when you can't remember the layout of a pocket or belt properly the day after. |

My assumption is that this will be recording the same info you recive to your client and then be uploaded into some kind of juryrigged version of the EVE 3D engine? that would be damn cool.
Options should be made to place a 'gun cam' position so you can watch from a 3rd person view as your blaster shreads a webbed and neuted ship.
