Come on, who hasn't thought this. The little green flashy light on the module buttons is just impossible to see, especially with a quick glance. This seems like it would be an easy enough fix that would benefit everyone.
And no, turning on Widescreen mode so you get squashed graphics but a partial black background behind the module buttons is not a solution.

Just to be clear, by the way - I don't think issues like these should be left out for CSM consideration just because they're smaller. On the contrary, getting small changes like these through that pilots work around everyday fixed would be relatively easy compared to some of the really big issues, and it would help establish the "CSM is doing something" notion while the CSM is still working on bigger issues in turn. I mean, its not like small things like this need much discussion. "Yes, that's a good idea. Everyone agree? Ok. Here you go, CCP, this is what the players think."

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 26/05/2008 15:07:41 Yeah. I kindof got used to it, but they could use a bit of toning up, as it's not always 100% clear what is on and what isn't at a glance.

An option to have a black background over the modules would be nice; a fancy little UI addition sticking out of the main center part.
Or make the green light brighter [Or heck, even make it a different colour, or give us the option to change the colour and intensity].
Does this include making the Overheat button on the module a bit easier to click on purpose, and harder to click by accident?

Agreed. They went totally overboard on the brightness of some systems and you can't see anything against it.

I have always wondered why the modules light up green and a good bit of space has a red background since red/green color blindness is fairly common. Better color choices could have been made. |

And while you're looking at module activation UI, could be please consider adding a visual indicator of module cycle state (just started, half the cycle, almost end cycle, etc...) so we'd handle target switching more easily ?
like a filling circle, a filling background, or a % indicator

That's a really good idea too. It seems like this would be best implemented by either an increasing or decreasing circular timer around the module icon.
Hopefully the CSM candidates won't glance over smaller issues like these because they are still issues; they're just relatively easy things to fix.

the old module buttons were much nicer, as well as taking up less space.

Personally, I see this "small" issues as being more important than many others, simply because they affect everyone all the time. Just like clearing graffiti off walls makes no real difference to a street but makes everyone feel better about the place ;-P
As I see it there are two options here: One is to place a dark tint behind the 8x3 modules area to ensure that they can't get "whited-out" by a bright star system.
The other option would be to make the 'controls' section presently at the bottom of the screen a moveable frameless window in its own right (with an option to semi-mask behind it as applies to other windows currently). This would not only enable a different use of screen real estate by all if they want it, but help those who read right-to-left not left-to-right.

Also agree with the complaint about not knowing how far through the cycle one is, but that's significantly less critical.
