Edited by: RREBEL13 on 27/05/2008 23:13:20 I reported this to the bug report team and hopefully they will fix it. The bug affects every capital ship as well as any ship that can use a jump drive. This skill states a 25% increase in range per lvl but it does not give that. Example Thanatos Carrier by default gives 6.5 light years with no skills. The follwing is what each lvl of training of the skill should give for this ship.
lvl 1 = 8.125ly lvl 2 = 10.156 lvl 3 = 12.695 lvl 4 = 15.868 lvl 5 = 19.835 But it does not give 25% but at lvl 4 I trained I only got 13ys which is almost 3ly shy of what it should be and at lv 5 even worse.
I hope CCP will fix this bug in a future patch.
Thanks RREBEL13

i have no idea where your numbers come from but its: lvl 0 = 6.5 x 1.00 lvl 1 = 6.5 x 1.25 lvl 2 = 6.5 x 1.50 lvl 3 = 6.5 x 1.75 lvl 4 = 6.5 x 2.00 lvl 5 = 6.5 x 2.25 using a carrier as the base

Sigh *Tries to explain*
Its not 25% more flat, its another 25% on the base per level of the skill, for example at level two its 50% not 25% + 25%, at 3 its 75% not 25% + 25% + 25%, and at 4 its double, etc.
I hope this helps somewhat, also the math to show -
6.5 * 1.25 = 8.15LY 6.5 * 1.50 = 9.75Ly 6.5 * 1.75 = 11.375Ly 6.5 * 2.0 = 13Ly 6.5 * 2.25 = 14.625Ly
Its NOT done like =
6.5 *1.25 *1.25 *1.25 = 12.something ly
Its the same with every other skill percentage based (Engineering for example), the next level is not 5% more than your total with your current level, its 5/10/15/20/25% more than the base of your ship, depending on your level.
Hope this helps.

Edited by: RREBEL13 on 28/05/2008 02:42:45 OK even if its 1.25 on the base that is still not 25% but ok. Did not know they did that to the base only. All the skills should state that fact so no one in the future thinks and says the same thing. 25% of the base is actually 1.625 is 25% , 1.25 is only between 19 and 20% . I recalculated what you said and at 1.625 per lvl would indeed give me what I have now.. Thanks for clearing that up for me tho.

Edited by: DubanFP on 28/05/2008 02:44:28 It's scary because he got a carrier before realizing level bonuses don't stack. They never stack on any skills. How did you get your carrier without realizing such a basic fact of EVE again? _______________

Yes it is.
1.25 is 125%
If you have a 50% bonus to range, and your range is 200 normally, then you'd get 1.5*200 = 300, 300 being your range with the bonus.
1 = 100% 0.1 = 10% 1.25 = 125% Pumpkin Pie with cool whip = awesome

6.5 + 1.25 per level for 4 levels gives me 11.5ly but 6.5 + 1.625 x 4 which is 25% of 6.5ly gives me 13ly what my range is showing.

Am I the only one who's mind is boggling at how someone like this could get a carrier without understanding EVE? It's multipliers
Multiplier = 1 + (Per level bonus * Level) So Level 1 multiplier = 1 + (.25 * 1) 1 + (.25) 1.25
Level 2 Multiplier = 1 + (.25 * 2) 1 + (.5) 1.5
Level 3 multiplier = 1 + (.25 * 3) 1.75
Level 4 = 2
Level 5 = 2.25
Then you take the multiplier and MULTIPLY it by your original number. Original jump distance = 6.5?
Level 1 = 1.25 * 6.5 8.125
Level 2 = 1.5 * 6.5 9.75
Level 3 = 1.75 * 6.5 11.375
You just keep adding 25% or .25 to the original number for each level. The multiplier doesn't stack. It's not 1.25 ^ (level). It works like this for all skills and I'm dumbfounded on how ANYONE could get a carrier without this basic knowledge. _______________

no. you're wrong. you should learn the difference between addition and multiplication
what you're doing is saying 6.5/4 = 1.625 and then to figure out your range you say 6.5 + 1.625*level
what everyone else s doing is saying 6.5*(1+0.25*level)
It's faster doing it that way (1 calculation compared to 2)

It's not a bug, it's behaving as intended and specified (and like nearly every other skill in the game).
Quote:
This skill states a 25% increase in range per lvl but it does not give that. Example Thanatos Carrier by default gives 6.5 light years with no skills. ... But it does not give 25% but at lvl 4 I trained I only got 13ys which is almost 3ly shy of what it should be and at lv 5 even worse.
Almost all skills expressed as "x% bonus/increase to stat" use the following formula
Base * (1 + Level * modifer)
In this case, using the numbers from your example. Base is 6.5 LY (as you correctly noted above). Modifier is 25% (in other words, 0.25). Therefore at level 4 you get:
6.5 LY * (1 + 4 * 0.25) = 6.5 LY * 2 = 13 LY
Which is precisely equal to the number you are actually seeing in game.
The only exceptions to this general formula (when expressed as a bonus) that I'm aware of are with social skills (because standings don't work quite like open ended stats) and one of the trade skills (for no particular reason).
This even works with Rate of Fire, except that the stat being modified is the delay between shots and the sign of a rate of fire bonus is negative, thus, a 7.5% per level bonus to rate of fire at level 4 is:
Base * (1 - 4 * 0.15) = Base * 0.7
This translates into an effective 43% bonus to damage output (and ammo consumption).
In short (I know, way too late), this is how skills work, this is how skills are documented as working and this is how skills are SUPPOSED to work.

Those numbers make no sense to me. Where does 0.15 come from and how does (1 - 4 * 0.15) equal 0.7 ??
Did you mean: Base * (1 - 4 * 0.075) = Base * 0.7
