Some excellent fusion of the HL2 and EVE graphics. Also some great emoting by the CG characters.
I hated the characters...all of em really. The captain was stupid and overly optimistic. He was also way too prideful with the whole "we do not run away" thing. I've personally killed way way too many people in EVE that talk like that. The other two characters did nothing but *****, which was real annoying.
The Raven pilot sounds like a 15 year old boy but looks like a 60 year old grandpa. Similarly Mr. Smith's voice sounded way to young and defiantly not ominous or mysterious enough for the character he portrays.
The 2 friends were never developed at all. Kinda just there for the deus ex machina.
I hated much of the film style of things. Way waaaay too much rotating. I know you WANT to do it cause in 3d generated things that's the simplest way to move the camera but except for a coupe of times DON'T. Cut from character to character, do crane shots or tracking shots, but don't rotate. You don't want your viewer getting sick and puking.
TL:DR Good graphics fusion and character model emoting. Some clever dialoge.
Bad editing and filming techniques. Cliched plot.
But at least you succeded in making something recognizable as an EVE machinima. I've seriously considered doing this before but couldn't figure out how to film the character interaction. Good job on that front with your manipulation of HL2.

It's bit unfair to critisize it as if it were a some kind of multimillion hollywood flick, when most of the work was likely done by 1 person in their spare time with no funding whatsoever.
Unless you expected him to hire a team of professional voice actors or something...
For what it is, it's amazing: original, funny and with actual substance. I'd love to see more things like this. ...

The critical guy above has some points but it's the best by far we've ever seen.
This tops any film that contains a flashy box. I mean the Evolution trailers are nice to watch for 5 seconds but they don't even come close in entertainment value.
New benchmark for EVE movies if you're gonna do a flashy box movie don't bother you're wasting your time.
If you do a follow up shout out for voice auditions you'll be able to get the right voices for the right characters. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

It takes an absurdly rigid position to be judgemental i.e. "Don't rotate." Says who?
Film style has changed quite a bit over the years: faster cuts, moving cranes, helicopter fly-by's not to mention the famous Matrix shot. If you can't handle the action, take a pill and sleep through it.
Not to mention that in sci-fi old men might have young voices. It's a matter of imagination, not viewing habits. Speaking of which - ship captains in all fiction that I'm aware of usually have exaggerated character traits and display some form of eccentricity.

I didn't say I hated it, I pointed out the things I liked about it as well as what I felt could use improvement. However, you don't need millions to write good plot, you need to be a good writer. You don't need millions to edit and film good shots, you need to study filmmaking. I don't know how much of a film buff the OP is or if he's been to film school or taken any film or drama classes but I felt it could be improved. As for actors I'm sure if there was a roll call in the forum there would be lots of decent voice actors that actually fit their characters gender and age that would apply and be happy to work for free. This film is about the length of a standard TV show and its ending is left open so there could be more coming. I'm offering my advice on how to make them better than the first. Constructive criticism.
FFS, you sir are a pillock, the quintessential internet know it all. Slating a great AMATEUR movie that is better than anything you could ever hope to do.
You don't know me and you haven't seen all of what I've done in films. I'm not just some internet know it all, I'm actually involved in acting, shooting and editing amateur works. They are not EVE related so I won't derail the thread with them.
Just cause I'm not sucking up and going "OMG WILL YOU HAVE MY BABIES!!!" like most of the rest of the people here doesn't mean I'm a troll, it just means I'm not gonna follow the crowd and be a suck up.
I was there when Red vs. Blue released their first episode and brought machinama back into the spotlight and I've watched a lot of machinama projects over the years. Red vs. Blue is not good because of the pretty graphics or effects, it's because it has good writing and good acting and well written distinct characters. It was professional quality when it came out and stayed that way for years until Microsoft hired Rooster Teeth to do paid jobs. Some in here suggested that CCP hire the OP to do this for them, so someone aside from myself was holding the OP to professional standards it seems.

Originally by: Janus Duo Obviously rules were meant to be broken, but in this case the rotation comes from the engines it was filmed in and not by artistic choice.
Artistic choice? - There is no such thing, even if it exists - then only as a lie. Artists always use the limited instruments they have. And this movie felt by no means hampered by the CGI engine, quite the opposite! It's a showcase of machinima's boundless possibilities, when two different game engines are combined with superb acting, storytelling and British accent.
