Hello all o/
I am constantly coming back and reading this thread so don't think I'm ignoring anyone, I just don't tend to post too much in general I can't say anything that I haven't said already, so I'll re-iterate my deepest thank you's for all the kind words!
I've just had an fantastic interview with Urban and Winterblink for the Warp Drive Active podcast on Sunday, talking about Clear Skies and addressing a fair few of the questions and comments raised here, so that should be worth a listen if you are interested I noted a bit of a discussion about the film style and actors and stuff a couple of pages back, but I wasn't expecting everyone to like it - each to their own and all that. I'm staggered by the percentage of people who do like it to be honest, I'm flattered and honoured and running out of nice words to use in general!
To be clear, we all have absolutely no training or experience whatsoever in acting or filmmaking before Clear Skies, so I think we did pretty darn good The driver behind CS was me and my friends having some fun and me having a creative outlet. It wasn't to try and wtfpwn the Eve video circles or show off or anything like that. Any subsequent stuff I do will be under the same driver
If this has raised the bar for eve film making then that's an honour I'm proud to carry - I want other people to pick this up and run with it (with perhaps less rotating cameras and British accents or whatever ) My website will have all the info and notes I have on the Half Life 2 SDK to save others from having to go through the 6 months of pain I did sussing it all out, which should speed up development time. I'm just one person, I imagine there are film-making teams out there now plotting and scheming their blockbusters who will complete them in less than half the time, and I for one welcome it and look forward to their films. Machinima 2.0 here we come!
Oh and before I go, a big thank you to the people who have donated ISK to me, that's such a warm and generous gesture, I'm truly touched especially as a sizeable one came from a group of people whom I'm ostensibly enemies with! I salute and thank you all, this is a very good day

absolutely awweeeesommmeeeee, you sir, rock!!!!!!!!! So the voice acting wasn't 'perfect' but it was bloody damn good, especially for unpaid standard peeps. Made me LOLs at several points in the film. Irish dude was highly entertaining :) If i had lots of r/l isk i'd probably have you and the dire lauthis guy kidnapped to work 24/7 on eve vids for me in my 'mom's basement'
CCP, for the love of god take note of this thread and PLEASEEE put more focus on the parts of ambulation that will allow more of these kinds of films to be made, rather than wasting time on the generic typical 'Avatar Dance' feature most MMORPG creators seem to adore. ---

Excellent
The best machinima I have ever seen. The integration of HL2 and EVE is flawless. A non-EVE+HL2 player would not be able to see that the graphics came from two different games.
The plots fits well for an EVE pilot doing his own stuff.
A+++++

Having just watched that in it's entirety, i'd like to ask for the last 40 minutes of my life back.
I watched it with a friend of mine who doesn't play eve, and we both agreed it was lazily edited, poorly written and the acting was even worse.
However i should say, and this is with 4 and a half years studying media, that the technical aspects were nicely done, but this doesn't make up for the cast being wooden, uncharismatic and obviously better suited to being behind the 'camera' than in front of it.
The producer should, if serious about the project, get in other people to write the script and act in it so that he can focus on producing.
8.9/10 for effort.

I got to the '4 years studying media' bit then lol'd and stopped. He already mentioned several times in this thread that the voice actors were not professionals, simply friends/other eve players, and that was why it wasn't the same kind of quality you'd expect paying $40 for an over-the-counter typem RPG w/voice acting. ---

[text of EVEmail just sent]
Sir,
Please accept this 30 million ISK towards covering the repairs to the Clear Skies (Just transfered separately to your personal account).
You have brought a huge smile to this 45 year old's face (who happens to be a hard SF buff and very critical indeed of SF related movies in general) and you've made me fall in love with EVE all over again, just when the Bogs of Grind were about to suck me under in boredom. I congratulate you on a superb episode of Red Dwarf, amongst other delights.
This work of yours dovetails neatly into an ongoing weekly lunch discussion I have with a close friend who's both a movie buff and a head writer on the Deus Ex 3 project at Eidos; where my argument is that the current state of the art puts us on the cusp of a high quality indie movie revolution entirely done by very small teams on micro-budgets. You just immensely bolstered my position and I will be bringing this wonderful machinima film to his attention.
Kudos, and thank you so very much.
~ Bren
