I have limited time each day. I require frequent afks most of the time (that is not to say I PLAY AFK, I safe up) .
I'm sick and tired of missions. PI is ok but that gets tedious. Exploration is great but actual WH living for a casual would be difficult.
I feel like the lone wolf is a dieing breed in this game. Maybe I'm wrong.....I want to know from you.
Obviously online games are made for players to be social but sometimes solo players just like being in the pond. I'm simply not a huge fan of Eve combat yet I struggle to find a MMO that makes me feel like I'm in space as I have a passion for cosmology in general. In Eve I get punished for trying to be immersive.
Eve generally triggers an autonomic response in me let over from my ancestor's genes when we were running away as prey. Its a double edged sword of a response akin to my roots: One minute I'm the hunter but when the torch goes out I'm now the hunted. Thats not relaxing.
I find Eve's vision of the future sad really. All the expanses of space and all the technology yet all there seems to be is war and destruction. I think optimimists play this game and some are known as care bears and are discouraged. In UO I could log on as my PK and cause Chaos but then I could log on as my tailor and tend to my plants.
I think thats probably the biggest divide there, people. Lots and lots of us want to enjoy space. Lots and lots of you want warfare and death and chaos.....but guess what? There's some that want to interact in a space universe who don't have at their core a desire to **** on someone else's pancakes that day. I'm tired of trying to carve a place in this universe between that crowd.
I've been with CCP on and off for a long time but I'm starting to feel the parting of the ways.
The cap game, Goonswarm, GamePlay = Headset, all of these things turn it off for me. Perhaps the game play represented historically by Goonswarm contributes in some way to the realism of the game. The fact that a goon was on the CSM sickens me. Eve has been a study for me in what I want from a game and the goons are the complete opposite.
The design idea of the mining vessel in general is another. The idea: miners are fitted for ore extraction so therefore must give up all defensive and offensive capability. The reality: gank fodder
Obviously the game is divided into two categories- the hunters and the hunted with casual gamers and fathers who change poopy diapers trying to find a place in between. I wonder what Carl Sagan would say of CCP's future vision.

I am a carebear, have been and probably will always be. I like to do stuff on my own and dont feel Eve doesnt have enough for single players. And when I want to do stuff with other players I just ask real friends or join mixed fleets with cheap ships.
I just wish CCP would do more for walking in stations. Its still a great idea badly implemented thus far.
Also check Darius III idea about arena fighting. Would be a great PvP addition to more casual players. For your attention! Market order modification fee (anti-botting, more interesting trading) https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=78351 |

my friend leavwiz posted a similar thread a while back as our friendly corp of carebears dwindled down to just 3 players and 5 accounts. I still play because it is a pleasant diversion when i have the time and feel like it. The game has clearly abandoned any facade of offering real value to players not interested in PVP or large scale combat , still some of us stay and enjoy what remains. I applaud those that see EVE space as a place to just produce and share with others. |

This game has never been solo friendly. Hell, both of my long breaks from EvE were during periods when I was between corps.
I've been refusing to train caps for years now, and my one stint in sov. nullsec was terrible (Atlas, I'll just leave it at that), but just when I think this game is dead to me I discover some entirely new aspect that I'd never considered before.
Like right now - Empire is boring, I've done the lowsec thing to death, sov/cap warfare doesn't interest me at all. But I've been having a blast in NPC nullsec the last few months - turns out the big alliances aren't too interested in unclaimable dead-end space with crappy truesec and low-end moons. But it can support our little coalition just fine and I get to enjoy (most) of the freedoms of nullsec without the "serious business" attitude and mandatory CTAs that I had to deal with in Atlas. And we have great FCs and I get to do a lot of what I enjoy most in this game - roaming in BCs and cruisers.
As far as being too focused on war, I don't see how that ruins the game for the hardcore industrialists. I'd think they'd be rather excited at the prospect of lots of stuff blowing up - more demand for their products. Or PvE - this game has never been about pve progression, there's dozens of other games on the market that do pve better than EvE. I'd like to see some expansion of the big storyline (especially with the Sleepers) sure, but this game has always been about the major storylines being crafted by the players themselves. The challenge in Eve is other people. Whether it be on the market, corp management, empire building, space combat, scamming others or whatever else you can think of to do in Eve, it's all about pitting yourself against the others in the game.
PI, Missions, exploration and any other "solo" gameplay is mostly all about making isk. It is something to do in Eve, but it isn't the main draw. The challenge comes from dodging or hunting the other players out there while you make your isk.
Why are Lowsec and Nullsec rewards higher? Because of the danger of other people.
Why is it hard to live in a wormhole solo? Because of other people.
Why are the biggest alliances very successful and rich? Because they have LOTS of other people.
You can play solo, but you have to recognize that the pve content isn't going to challenge you. It's the other people that will do that. If you're reading my sig you cannot claim ignorance, only stupidity or apathy, if you don't go VOTE now for CSM7. |

Goonswarm is a testament to "power in well-organized numbers". I'm not on the same side as them politically, but I admire the success they have achieved by properly done cat herding.

The idea: my Rifter is fitted for maximum damage so therefore must give up all defensive capability. The reality: shitfit. There are these neat things called "trade-offs" that exist. You cannot min-max and expect people to not take advantage of that. Also, keep in mind: a mining ship earns money. A combat ship is a sunk cost at the time of buying, as it will die at some point, guaranteed.
And, I do hope you are aware that ganking miners was a short-lived campaign by Goonswarm that is now over, as it achieved its stated non-troll purpose: to put a check on ridiculous ice prices. So you got screwed over by being on the opposite side of a conflict with an overwhelming enemy. Deal with it, learn from it, and move on. Or quit Eve. That really gives them their victory, as it's -1 hisec miner screwing up ice prices.

Hey Zeet....
Tho basically im a care-bear, since i mine mostly, do lots of courier runs, and missions here and there, and the occasional run into lo-sec w my Viator for the rush of evasion, I accept the mechanics of Eve.
Sure, Ive been ganked a few times, but Ive learned along the way, and dont plan on leaving the game anytime soon, since I pretty much play it every day.
Anywaz, the way I look at it is this:
Like u mentioned, one of the big draws of Eve to me was the "space" aspect of it. Since Ive always been interested in all matters space and sci-fi. I accept the fact that there are hunters out there. But if Eve was real (it isn't?), then more than likely if u were in space there would be no concord to come and punish the bad guys. So, look at it that way, cuz once ur in space, ur really all alone :) |

I am a carebear as well, and as much as I hate to admit it, ganking miners in 0.8 and above is a lot harder then most people who have never ganked realize. My home system over the last month has been over run with botters and there are virtually no asteroids left when I get on at night to mine. I started researching how to gank, and began training alts on both my accounts as gankers to deal with the problem.
If you spend a couple hours researching ganking from the point of view of the ganker you will quickly realize just how safe you are in 0.8 and above systems with a decently tanked hulk.
Its going to cost me about 70 million to outfit one tornado to gank an untanked hulk, and if I'm lucky I might get 20mil of that back if salvaging the wreck on an alt pays off.
For a heavily tanked hulk, I am going to have to get my brother to help out and have him fly a second tornado. Thats 140 million to really be able to garauntee a gank. Thats getting really close to the "not worth it" price.
If you stay in 0.8 and above, you're a lot safer from ganks then you might think. |

Hang in there! Consider finding a small corp that doesn't require member participation to allow you a little socialzation when you feel like it. Consider doing what I did last time I was burned out. Become a space tourist for a while. Go check out every marked site on the Eve Map (be careful as some places are a little dangerous). CCP put some amazing site in Eve, check them out and see of the sense of wonder isn't renewed!

Burnout. It happens. Best solution is to NOT PLAY this griefer heaven of a game for a while. Especially when the Devs start griefing you too, with stuff like walking in space, ignoring supercap problem, downgrading space to uselessness you painstakingly upgraded; or loosing skillpoints when getting ganked in certain ships.
Put the client aside and try out the myriad of new F2P MMOs out there. Yeah most of them are WOW clones, some actually better than, and only a handful are in space.
Still. Look around. You-¦ll appreciate better what EVE actually offers. And try to adapt more intelligently. Or just turn your back on it for good. |

Give losec--or even ninja'ing into other peoples' nullsec--exploration and 'plexing a try, OP (I'm training into an Ishtar for that very purpose--don't get me wrong, I love the Tengu, but it's just too...common...plus, ExploTar/drone-whoring in general are new things to me, so want to try them.):
You can do this solo, and make some nice muneez in the process (plus I find the life of the explorer to be much more immersive, too--much more feeling of being out there in "the big dark," which other aspects of EVE sorely/completely lack.).

Let me state your problem.
Eve is not a solo player's game. Eve is not a PVE game. Eve is not even a PVP game.
It is a game of politics and human dynamics.
If you try to engage in Eve but deny yourself any of the social aspect, it is probably the single worst MMO on the market.
But once you make some friends and start making deals, the potential reveals itself and you will never leave, because there is simply nothing like it.

I'm not really sure what your gripe is exactly. Is it than there is open pvp or that the barges are too weak? I'll 100% agree on the latter but I really find the PvP aspect is what makes eve. Every time I buy something, its from another player and I can't merch stuff either. It' provides a real living world and, ya, sometimes people are gonna want to wreck your **** up and that's okay. That's what drives the game and provides a sense of suspense to even mundane activities. I don't always use hax. But when I do, it's because I'm an NPC.. http://i.imgur.com/PUZou.jpg
