I'm a pilot with little to no combat experience or skills in combat oriented ships and I was wondering what some of the pros and cons to different race's ships were. I live primarily in Gallente space and was thinking I'd start doing some missions (level 4 and 5 once I have the skills). I'm not totally clueless, I can see that Amarr ships have laser bonuses and Gallente ships get bonuses to hybrid turrets and drones, but which of those are more useful for different things? Lasers sound cool since they don't consume ammo, but will dealing only em/thermal damage make them too weak against some targets? Drones don't take any ammo either, but is that something I can really focus on purely or are they just added damage on top of my turrets/launchers? Does ammo get expensive if I'm using missile launchers or projectile turrets? Maybe everything averages out and it doesn't really matter what I choose to use. Any tips you can offer a newbie would help. |

For starters, you might want to slow down a bit first, Level 4/5 missions are a bit far off at the moment :) You will want to work your way up to level 3 missions for a target and i personally think you have 2 options for great mission running ships. (BTW this is my opinion) You can train the use of gallente drone boats (vexor, myrmidon) which are great mission running ships as you can get a good perma tank (the armor rep/shield booster will run permanently without capping out) and still have plenty of DPS to deal with the rats. You can also switch drones to deal the damage type most effective agaist that faction. (explosive for angles, EM for blood raiders etc).
There is also the caldari line of ships. The caracel and the drake are also very good mission runners. And the advantge is being able to switch the type of missle your using as well. (I did a level 4 mission that was set up agaist amarr and there were caldari ships as well in the pocket -.-) Being able to switch ammo means you can counter a variety of targets when if your in a gallente drone boat, you have to go back to change drones.
The other races have good mission ships, but from experience i will say your best bet is either gallente or caldari. (maybe both when you get a little more SP, with ships like the gila or the rattlesnake if your feeling flush) Obviously there is quite a bit more to it, but in the end it comes down to either you like drone, guns, or missles.
There will be a fair amount iv missed but im sure others will pick on it and provide their own advice and experiences to help you. Sorry for the blob of text xD but there is no quick and simple way to explain everything in detail :) Hope this helps!
FYI: I have links to a number of L3/4 agents close to eachother in gallente high sec, so PM me if you want those system names :) goodluck!
