be warned that your abit mobo is likely to crap out shortly after the warranty expires.
Ive used ABIT boards in my last 2 builds and the first one i had has lost its onboard sound then died, the second one also lost its sound and is starting to lose its SATA controller, the current one (in the pc I use now) is still going but its still on warranty so...
why do I keep buying them you wonder? its because they are cheap and fairly good while they last and using AMD chips generally means a new socket type for each upgrade.
p.s. good choice on the nvidia card, ati drivers will suck out your soul and murder your OS

In about a year or so i plan to upgrade to SLi and get 2 gfx cards on the go, so most of what this pc gave me is the chance to upgrade in the future (i hope so anyway!).
Thanks all for the help and advice.

That's odd. I've always heard good things about Abit boards. Also, I use an ATI graphics card - the drivers aren't murdering my OS at all.

That motherboard won't support SLI by the way. So if you want SLI, you'll be needing a new board. One with a dreaded nForce chipset. Also bear in mind that you can't mix and match cards in SLI. So by the time you get round to it, you'll be buying an old card to supplement your present old card. Thus, you won't see a massive performance increase. Simply buying a newer card to replace the old one will give you greater performance, and in the long run will be cheaper.
Anyway, don't take my word as gospel, but I'm pretty sure that single 8800GT will still be able to run every game a year from now with all the bells and whistles. Unless of course someone deliberately sets out to write a monstrous resource-hogging, computer-raping game between now and then.

Edited by: Miki Fin on 01/06/2008 18:14:35 Buy the bits you need, then, if you're not confident enough to build the pc yourself, get a friend to build it. Failing that, give your local college a call, speak to one of the lecturers and they'll be able to recommend a student to build it for you for the price of a few beers.
Overclockers haver been recommended here but I find their prices are not the cheapest and the service is crap. www.ebuyer.com and www.novatech.co.uk are both good and reasonable.
Edit: Also, if buying a full system, check the warrenty conditions. Afaik Novatech are the only pc manufacturer who lets you upgrade the pc without voiding the warrenty.
