I think the consensus is that if you have dual core, 2G+ ram, and an 8800 or better vid card then you can run AoC with decent settings.

much like when the hullfire kicks in
I play the game on minimum requirement ... that is Low settings on my laptop, it is a Dell 1720 and it works out quite okey to be honest.... They have patched a few times but I think all in all it is quite okey game, I like it and I play on a PvP server, my guild is working towards becoming mercs... I like the option that you can fight all the way .. even in towns :-) If people can't stand pvp ... then please ... roll pve instead.
Oh and I got a couple of friends who have quite good computers and both run the game on high ... and from what I have seen it looks great !!!!

That's one thing you gotta love about the shard, it gets the shortbus people on their bus and the rest of us on our means of transport.
If anything the staticness of resources, respawns and questgivers facilitate the gank and needs to be looked at till then I might as well play EVE for my PvP.

Goons altering text and blowing something out of proportion? No! They would never do that in a million years. Why I'm sure that the text posted hasn't been shopped to their liking. I mean not the sweet innocent goonies! They would never lie about why they're in trouble.

Yes, I agree. Should any player be discovered to be a active member of Something Awful, all his accounts should be permanently banned.
Bravo Funcom, you just took the first step towards doing the right thing! Now finish the job and remove this scourge of family friendly online entertainment from your game!

I agree with this sentiment, but come on, it was on a PvP server for Zeus' sake. If they were doing something untoward on a PvE server I could see the point, but as the guy above said, "PvPing on a PvP server? The Nerve."

Does anyone else think that the devs and GMs over at Funcom need to actually READ, and re-read, the original Conan books? I just don't see how they are upholding the spirit of the franchise by reacting the way they are. It's almost like saying: "You play a bloodthirsty, amoral killer, but you can't actually kill anyone." The Belkster would be ****ed.
Yes, Goons are disgusting and should be... ignored, really. They want attention almost as much as Jack Thompson. Give it to them, and they're exultant. Ignore them and they'll go away.

With respect, I think you're missing the point. The players in question aren't PvPing, their sat in one place killing players as they respawn. It's basically griefing. There is not a thing the player on the receiving end can do about it, as the places you can respawn are a) limited and b) set locations. Of course it isn't fair to expect never to be a target on a PvP server, the whole point of it is so players can engage each other at any time.
But these players are not doing that, they're kicking people while their down, not letting them get back up again and removing all possible enjoyment from the game for their targets. The online equivalent of the playground bully. I'm quite happy to be ganked by a rogue down a city's dark alleyway, but if a game developer allows his friends to spawn-camp ensuring I never set foot outside the graveyard or have opportunity to retaliate, they're gonna lose a lot of customers.
Eve gives players a chance by warping in to systems cloaked. AoC needs to give respawning players on PvP servers 30 seconds of immunity, or invisibility, or something. This gives them a fair opportunity to a) buff up and fight back or b) use their interruptible, 30-minute cooldown teleport ability to go to their current home town (Equivalent of hearth stone/Inn in WoW).
PvP can be fun, challenging, rewarding, exhilerating and a great contest of strategy, skill (especially with AoC's twitch-based combat) and downright skullduggery. But griefing is IMO pretty low, ruins games for everyone and should quite rightly be met with a heavy hand. -------------

This.
EvE doesnt allow greifing of new players, so why should AoC ? Its a pvp game yes but so is eve.

Edited by: Benco97 on 03/06/2008 11:46:16 You know what I love about PvP servers in AoC? Random encounters.
Well, just today I was doing some quest where I had to kill some monster, it's almost a hard fight but I'm winning and just as I deal it the killing blow some Assassin appears behind me and starts stabbing me in the bottom hoping for an easy kill. However, had he been watching and if he'd known my class (HoX) he'd have seen I DIDN'T use my biggest skills. Much perturbed by this ass-stabbery I span around and whipped out a Molten-steel slash, which critted... and stacked with my fiery weapons proc (chance to deal 120% fire damage on hit, sounds powerful but come on, I've put 10 feat points into it)... and got a fatality.
Oh you should have heard me cackle as I stabbed my sword clean through his chest before ripping it upwards and watching his body slump to the ground, it was wonderful.

Oh there are so many spectacular stabs when I use the right combo's you can see my toon sort of chop off both my victims arms and when the victim drops to the knees .. you see my toon swing his axe (is a Conqueror btw) and chop off his head as well... sort of like Monty Python's black knight ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Well I don't mind pvp on a pvp server, it is the griefing that needs to be controlled. Yesterday two guys held my toon hostage inside the town with the guards watching. One Ranger kept shooting root spells on me so I could not move and the other one just stood by and wrote stupid things... Guards did not attack the ranger even that he was doing a hostile act (it is a hostile spell and guards should react to it).
Basically I was stuck there, with only option to log off.

Thats prehaps the stupidest MMO feature I have ever heard of. "Lets make it so that respawning is set and the player can be killed before he even can move." Serously who the hell thought that was a good idea?! That company deserves to lose its customers for implimenting such a horrific design flaw into the game then taking out their frustrations when, gasp, players abuse that design flaw on their customers.
Trusting your player base to have the ethics not to spawn kill is like asking a mass murderer not to leave his Jail cell when the door is open, you just cant trust him and if your stupid enough to do so you deserve whats going to come from it. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

ITT: new MMO wasn't ready for Goons.
If the screenshots linked in that DIGG thing were real, and Goons really are collecting money to fund DOS attacks on other guilds' web spaces and designing macros and bots and such...
As to a GM trying to give goons advice about how to not have a negative public image...

Don't assume every server is like that, nor even that the one server is like that... your sample size is too small.
From the reports of other people I've heard from, pvp on some servers is ganky but fun. Player skill more than player setups is seemingly still more important, unlike blob warfare like we have on our single server in Eve.
The game just went live... holy crap, was Eve 5 years ago like it is now? Is it fair to judge how a just-released game will be once stuff gets worked on and GMs have a chance to formulate sensible policy based on server-types? I've read different experiences from rp-pvp, pvp and pve servers.
Personally, I'm giving AoC a little while before I draw any conclusions about its value.

i am selling age of conan game along with the account for it, ive given it a good chance but its just not worth half of what the monthly fee is to be honest.
the chat boxes are draconian and very limited, combat is repetitive and the graphics just arent that good even on max settings (despite what anyone says)
if it was free id have a couple of games a week for an hour or so but theres no way im paying for it. The map is poor and you often get stuck on silly things like a step or a bush. Pretty pathetic game in my opinion, dont waste your time.
