Edited by: Adaera on 31/05/2008 22:44:50 Ok, I made a suggestion for a setup before - and in short was told it's a flying disaster. But now have come up with a slightly more specialised setup and could use a few pointers. Oh and I've noted my reasoning for each bit, so you can see just how warped and newbish my mind is ^_^
Highs: 4x malkuth rocket launchers - rockets do higher dps than missiles don't they? Plus, rockets don't eat into my power grid like missiles do.
Meds: 1x 1mw MWD - apparently this is pretty much a must, or would an afterburner be a good alternative? 2x small shield extender - this isn't made to tackle, it's for dps on already tackled targets, and some extra tank can't hurt can it?
Lows: 1x BCU 1x overdrive injector.
The strategy: well, basically to orbit the target while another one tackles it and rain down rockets, while hopefully being able to withstand/run from any return fire.
The main bits I'm not sure on are the overdrive (replace it with a BCU?) and the meds (if someone else is tackling, will I really need a scrambler/web?)
Oh and above all - this is made to be not *too* horribly expensive to lose. I am kinda new to all this, and again have really messed up on my previous fitting idea :P so please go easy.
Thanks!

Edited by: Adaera on 31/05/2008 22:50:14 Well, the grind missions stuff seemed fairly straightforward. Got another Kessie which is shield tanked with standard missiles and it just chews through them. But the corp is trying to put together some smaller pvp ships, I happen to love the Kestrel, and thought "well, it might work... "

Edited by: Adaera on 31/05/2008 23:09:04 I've never quite been able to work out what the Merlin is meant to do
On the one hand, it has range bonuses, which indicate it's made to snipe - but missiles don't sound too good at long range, and how much does it need to tank at long distance? On the other hand, it has tanking bonuses and a tough shield, which would indicate it's meant to take a beating at close range - but then what's the point of the range bonus? Factor in the fact it's slow as hell and it just complicates it further for me. Oh, not to mention all I've heard about ships that try to do multiple tasks is that they end up sucking at all of them. All in all, unless I'm REALLY missing something here, it looks like a pretty out of place ship.

ty for all the advice, it's great to hear I'm on the right track now :) I'll dump the overdrive and fit another BCU, and maybe rework the mids.
And thanks, but at the moment I AM a total newb - and probably not doing a whole lot of good for the Caldari image, but I'm trying hard to learn how to use it properly. I already know that - I think - they don't make amazing soloers, but are great in support of a larger fleet, so I'm skilling up with that in mind right now. |
