Hi, I have been playing this game for a week or so and recently went into 0.3 space and got killed by some body who stopped me from warping. How can I protect myself from this in the future and what ships would be the best one's to use if I wanted to venture into more dangerour areas looking for NPC's. I also had no kill rights after I was killed, why is this?
Many thanks for any help.
What a class game!

It's called a warp core stabilizer, it halves your locking range and ads a point to the warp core strength. It doesn't make you immune just increases your resistance. And if you are looking for npc fights go to an agent and do missions.
And I believe you only get kill rights if you do not shoot back but I'm not sure about this.

Well, seeing as how you were in low sec and not null it probably wasn't a bubble, but it could have been a couple things:
Warp Jammer/Warp Scrambler They're modules that go into the medium slots and can jam a single target's warp capabilities. You can use WCS (Warp core stabilizers) but they're not the best idea unless you're purely traveling. A jammer has a longer range (20 Km or so) and does one point of warp scrambling, if you if a single WCS then you have have a 50/50 chance of warping (iirc, it could be 100). A scrambler does the same thing but has a shorter range (7.5 Km) but does two points of warp scrambling.
HICs and Interdictors These ships are specialized in stopping warp and can fit a module that makes warp around them impossible for 20 km I think. They can also fit a script to put infinite warp scramble on one target
How to avoid: With scams and jams your choices are to either out of range, don't get locked or blow up the ship. With HICs and Interdictors you can do the same things, but it's much harder.
Best way to avoid it, keep you distance, and move fast. Signatures are annoying...kinda like me. |

That's true, u get them ONLY if u won't shoot back. If you try to fight, then you will make it mutual. ---

If you have an equal (or higher) amount of WCS on your ship compared to enemy scramble strength pointed at you, you can warp. Also, you can either get out of his warp scrambler/disruptor range then warp, or you can try to break his target lock with either sensor dampners (if far away enough) or ECM jammers.

Firstly, yay for you for coming and asking sensible questions as opposed to crying and ranting. As the posters previously have stated a WCS will help prevent you being warp scrambled/disrupted. The best advice however when ratting in low sec is be aware. Treat everyone as hostile until proven otherwise and keep an eye on who is in local with you. If there are low security status or pirate looking (obvious pirate corp or alliance) people then either sit in a safe spot for a while or make sure you stay aligned so you can warp out of the belt you are in as soon as someone warps in. Use your scanner, set it on a low distance (900,000 km's or something) and you will get a heads up when someone is in warp to your belt. Also try joining the "Eve University" in-game chat channel. It is a player run corporation dedicated to helping newer players.
Have fun

Thanks for the advice. You dont have to wait long for a reply only this forum! I have only one thing to moan about and that is I wish I had found this game sooner. It's been a long time since I played Elite on my c64 but now im happy again.

warp core stablizers help against warp jammers but only if you have more or equal of the ammount than your enemy has. if he has 2 warp disruptors.. you need 2 warp core stabs to get away and so on.
and you dont have killrights because you must have shot back. you only get them if you dont do anything agressive to the guy attacking you ---------------------------------- Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

Tactical warp outs must be achieved in another way then using WCS since it gimps your offensive strengths, i whould suggest in combo with some type of ECM, either e-war specced gangmember using it from a distance, or using ecm drones, or, (but this ive never used myself) having ecm bursts to break locks and time this with bashing the warp to button. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

To counter warp jammers:

WCS altogether should be banned from any not-industrial ship, or at least turn off highslots tbh. If you wanna run, then mwd over 24k or jam the bastard. Sucking his cap will work too. ---

It's a warp core stabilizer, it attempts to compensate for fluctuations and disruptions of the ships warp core.

Edited by: Joe Starbreaker on 02/06/2008 04:50:13 Ways to defend against somebody who warp scrambles you: 1. Warp away before they can target you. 2. Cloak before they can target you. 3. Get out of range of their scrambler. 4. Jam them with ECM so they lose their lock. 5. Reduce their targeting range with a remote sensor dampener so that you'll be out of range and they'll lose their lock. 6. Use energy neutralizers on them until they can't keep the scrambler on. 7. Kill them.
You can also defend yourself with warp core stabilizers. Each one protects you from one "point" of warp scrambling (7.5-9km scrams have 2 points, 20-24km scrams have only 1 point). But this is something you have to do before you undock; it doesn't help you much when you're in the trap.

If he's only scramming you without a webber, you can hit the mwd and run outside of the scram or disruptor range and then warp off. If you are in a really fast ship, he'll need more than 1 webber to hold you down.

Sort of disagree with this sentiment. A single WCS won't cripple frigates or destroyers since their small weapons already have low effective ranges to being with, barring one conditional exception. Two might be acceptable if you are fitting close range weapons like blasters and rockets. Be mindful of your surroundings. |

Dont go to 0.1-0.4 .. It's worthless reward and too much risk. Deny missions that go there, etc. It's only for travel to/from 0.0

Hey if your corp have balls and you all move to a low sec system, you can usually intimitate pirates from attacking you mission running. Missions in low sec pay alot more generally, although not as much as they should for the risk.

This may have already been said, but there are really a few ways to deal with being scrambled.
If you are just traveling/hauling, I would fit two Warp Core Stabalizers and tank out your ship. WCS are not ment for "fighting" ships.
If you decide to go ratting, or pirating in Lowsec, go with ECM and try to jam the person who is scrambling you. If you can get a good jam on them, you may even be able to turn the tide and take them out! Or you can just warp away if you don't feel like you can keep them jammed long enough.
There are also drones with the ability to do ECM. They can be pretty handy too. They're not as reliable, but if you can survive long enough and keep spamming the warp button, chances are they'll lose the lock and you can get out.
You stated that you are a relativly new person though, and those drones may be a few months away from you now, but it's something to look at.

For every WCS you fit, your frigate does less dps and/or moves slower than mine.
