I'm curious what the maximum range for a Raven is and what is the best setup for a sniping Raven is.
I heard of 230km's missile hit is possible for missiles even when lock is not maintained.
Anyone have any setups like that?

For pvp? Guess you're looking at a be-type raven then with damps and cruise missiles. Can hit at up to 250km but flight time is about 20 seconds as well.

Well there's some variation obviously, but it goes like this:
6x cruise, cloak, remote rep
4x dampener w/ range script, 2x sensorbooster
4x bcu, dcu
rigs: missile velocity and/or damp strength

When I saw the thread topic, I was going like "wtf, Triumvirate using sniping ravens??".
Anyway, for such a long range sniper, the only issue I can think of is delayed damage, which should be OK if you're not firing at the same primary as gunboats.
I guess damps in mids, the flight speed/time rigs, sensor boosters?

damps have range limitations..
I think that with awesome skills, u can use them at most at 80-90km? including falloff..

damps have a max optimal of 45km with a max falloff of 90km. so as soon as you are operating at 225km your damps are TOTALLY useless at that range. Every snipership above that (>225km) can hit you and will hit you. but below that, you can disable 4 ships (assuming that they need to target only some kms under their max. targetrange) with them.

tbh I dont understand "sniping raven" with dampeners from 150-200k. Isnt tempest much better at this job ? Or abaddon ?

They do more dps (the Ravens) and can carry more EW while doing so, at the coost of delayed dmg. If you have good tackles it works well. (I personally dont like it). Udie fanatics used to do it with 1-2 dictors on the gate but since many people wised up and fit mwd on their BSs udie now uses Hyenas...
Personally I think if the target expects your set ups and targets the tacklers you will lose tacklers and might well kill nothing but for sub par or surprised targets it works very well...
On the negative I find these tactics a bit meh and on the positive I got a gist 1mn mwd from uDIE hYENA $$$ :)
(They will tell you that the tacklers are not Udie but thats just hilarious :D) Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |
