Im making a solo maller setup, should I use tech2 small pulse lasers or t1 mediums?
With the smalls,i Get the PG to also fit a 1600mm plate, which is nice.

You can use whatever you are comfortable with, you can fit heavy pulse, medium pulse, autocannons, blasters, double 1600 plated with small artillery, there is no wrong way to fit this ship, no matter how you fit it, it will never be wrong because nobody knows in 5 years of eve wtf to fit on this ship, or you could just fit it like this

Mallers and Prophecys benefit from fitting Autocannons. Cap bonus to lasers? Screw that! I'll just use capless weapons! Tank it up and whatever damage you can do is good.
My dual repper Proph tanks like a beast but does paltry DPS. It has niche uses.
This is my Opinion and not that of Black River Industries or any of its members. |

If you like 1600mm plate buffer tank, then forget smalls and go for Quad Medium Beams.
T2 Quad Beams do more damage than T2 small Pulses*, but have much greater range to help on missions....... And you should still have enough PG spare for a 1600mm plate.
*T2 small pulses have 3.6 damage modifier, whilst T2 quads have 1.8 modifier. However, Med crystals do twice the damage of smalls, so damage per hit stays the same. Quad Light Beam Laser II has a 3.15 sec ROF, compared to 3.5 sec ROF on Small Pulse II - so Quads will out-damage small T2 pulses at longer ranges! T1 Quads will do slightly less dps than T2 small pulses, but going for meta 3 or meta 4 Quads should give you comparable dps.
DISCLAIMER - Unless your skill set is horribly screwed towards small lasers (i.e. no medium laser skills to speak of at all) then I would always opt for Quad Light Beams on a Dura-Maller.

[Maller, 58k Effective HP] 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II
Small Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 200 Faint Warp Prohibitor I Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I
Medium Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S Small Diminishing Power System Drain I
Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I
Bring 5 x Scorch S also for those fights where you're forced to stay at range.
Gives you 58.000 Effective HP in and ~175 DPS EFT, and this is with this chars very mediocre skills (~1.6mil SP).
Incredibly tight fit for this char, 1CPU and 0PG leftover but it owns, hard. Yes you will die to interceptors that don't mess up (but so will most (all?) cruisers) or other ships that can stay away from you (but who wont?)
If you really want to go overboard with the buffer tanking get an Augoror Navy Issue, should yield around 90.000 effective HP.

Even without the rigs it's a very good fitting (about 38k buffer tank w/o rigs) that has earned me many kills from a lot more experienced (SP-wise) pilots.

Depends on what you're using it for. I use it to run level 2 missions and arm it with 5 T1 Pulse lasers. With an AB and a webber, it closes in with all enemies and takes them all down fairly fast, even cruisers. It gets annoying when faced with longer-range enemies who can fly fairly fast, but with an AB I can normally catch them all - eventually. There's more than enough tank to outlast them anyway. I can only imagine how powerful T2 will be.
If I move to level 3 missions I foresee that I'll need to upgrade to Medium lasers - but rather than worry too much about Maller fittings I'll probably change to a Prophecy when I train up the skills sufficiently for level III.

this set up rox I hope what I see in the lowes is 1 gyr 1 mfs 1 hs :D :D :D Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

Interesting idea, I usually disregard QLBs completely.
