So i'm kinda depressed in Eve right now....
Mostly due to a certain exploration plex called "Dread Guristas staging point", which sent us on an expedition into enemy 0.0 space not once but twice, only to meet the most insane combination of PVE I have ever seen in my Eve career. This thing (insta-popped) a max-skilled passive-Drake which had a max-skilled Basilisk and Scimitar repping it. This isn't the real reason, it's just what finally pushed me over the edge.
PvP is getting old, mostly do some ganking or be ganked, it's always the same routine whether you are in 0.0 or doing empire wardecs.
Now, before anyone asks for my stuff, first, I don't really have much left since I PvP'd all of it (why else would I be doing 0.0 exploration?). Second, i'm not quitting Eve..... ever. I just take breaks from time to time and train some long skills.
I do play CoD4, but it isn't a game that can really keep your attention for long. I've tried PoTBS and it sucked (too much grinding). I will absolutely not play WoW, AoC looks corny as well.
I tried a newer game this weekend called Vendetta online, space MMO with joystick capability :) Too bad there weren't many people playing and the game needs serious polishing, because the gameplay is right on.
What i'm looking for is really something to pass the time while I take a break from Eve. Does anyone know of any other good MMO's out there?
PS: My RL is just fine, I have too much free time these days.

Another vote for City of Heroes. Not great for the long term, but for short bursts it's just really, really good fun.
If you ever get to the game that is, as character creation is so great you just might want to make characters that never get past level 3 or so!

if you like rpg's morrowind for if your more into the storyline aspect of it oblivion is better for action (isnt quite as big as morrowind though still fun)
if you like RTS command and conquer the first decade, has every CNC (excepet CNC3) has given me many months of enjoyment
fps still love the online play of halo1 for computer painkiller, lets just put it this way if you go more than a miniute withought killing somthing, then you are playing the game wrong
thats about all i can think of right now

Team Fortress 2. Enough said. This game is why I've not logged many hours recently in Eve. You should check it out, it's a really good game.

I talked a friend into trying out TF2 and I think he's logged more hours than me now. I only get in once in a blue moon though when I'm up for mindless shooting.
He didn't believe me when I said snipers play in a different world than the other classes. They're a class of their own who single each other out on the battlefield.

Hyperbol - purchased on steam
Really awesomely balanced game, it's like scorched earth in space, polished graphics and hard learning curve but immensely enjoyable. Doesn't cost much. Only real downside is lack of regular players because it's not exactly widely known. Weekends feature a free to play hour.
Dystopia - HL2 cyberpunk total conversion
Quick and dirty action with shadowrun like ambience. Different playerclasses with custom weapons and implant systems. Gameplay is nicely done, good balance, suits lot of playstyles. Also: real-time cyberspace hacking. Mostly objective based playstyle that keeps you on your toes in a team. Enough players to always find several full servers. Free to play.
Dwarffortress - ASCII text graphic real time fantasy sandbox strategy simulator (no, not kidding)
There are already some threads about this game on these forums, look them up. It's free. Steep but rewarding learning curve.

Actually, looking at my post above, I realized that after EVE, I'm not really interested anymore in other MMOs, even if I don't really play properly anymore.

Edited by: Fumbles McStupid on 03/06/2008 17:53:05 Edited by: Fumbles McStupid on 03/06/2008 17:51:22 WoW used to be good, but has since been going straight down the toilet with bad design and lazy developers.
Lineage II is a bot infested joke.
Final Fantasy XI seems to be in the same boat as Lineage II.
CoH/CoV is fun initially, but it gets repetative. I think the most fun in that game was character creation.
Lord of the Rings Online is very well designed and looks great, but the playerbase all seem to be on valium or something.
Tabula Rasa has some fun gameplay, but like CoH/CoV it gets repetative very fast.
Dungeons and Dragons Online is very repetative. Every dungeon is build the same and nothing is unique. It gets boring very fast. No real PvP at all.
Vanguard is still broken. The game has seen some dramatic improvements since release and is for the most part stable, but if this current product is an "improvement", I'd hate to see the initial release. Often called the "Beta in a Box MMO".
In all honesty, I'd check out AoC or Warhammer. Or maybe even Stargate: Worlds if you're a Stargate fan. Plus there are other options besides MMOs. Check out Oblivion sometime.

Edited by: General Spaz on 03/06/2008 19:19:33 Already beat Oblivion twice with two differently skilled characters and gave it away.
If only they made that game multiplayer, because it was fun.
I think one of the reasons EvE is so popular is because there really aren't any other good choices in the sci-fi MMO class.
Hack-em 'n' slash-em MMO's seem to be a dime a dozen.
