As far as I know, it's a lot more like KOTOR than it is EVE.

yup. Mass Effect is a 3rd person shooter. great story but I found little replay value. If your looking for another game similar to eve but single player, go find a torrent of Freelancer.

Wait... wait... wait... you're telling me that you actually have to AIM in Mass Effect ?!? And from a 3rd person perspective, nevertheless ? Now I'll NEVER play it I seriously thought it's KOTOR-like, D20 rules with auto-targeting. What a dissapointment...

its aiming in a sense, sure you point at the target but your skills affect the accuracy of your shots

Did they fix the soldier class? On the 360 it was brokenly overpowered. It's health regeneration was greater than the damage most enemy groups put out, and the end game rifles had no need to aim or even stop from overheating.

Yes, came out a couple of days ago... on the "pirate" circuit anyway, no idea when it comes out in stores.
Also damage and such is all based on your level and such.
Also sniper rifles can be manually aimed instead of auto for more damage if you hit the head :)
Finally, you can set the level of manual aim, from point 4 feet above them BAM BAM BAM 4 damage 5 damage 4damage.
to sorry you missed by one inch.

This game has been overloaded by an insane ammount of anti-pirate (read: anti-paying customer) security measures? Guess i'll be pirating this then.

as a long time FPS user, i found it clunky, on the otherhand, long hours of CS:S and TF2 have sharpened my skills to a razor edge. I expect instant movement, fast dodging, the R button to mean reload not throw grenade that blows me up. Taking cover behind crates has such a long animation, I end up just sitting behind it and moving into range.
And the sniper rifle is wacky, it just wants to jump around all the time. No fast switching like ut/cs/HL2. Powers are in the number keys, which isnt bad but i liked the Dark forces way of doing things, rotate through the powers which all bind to 1 key.
I also found the story somewhat short, there are only 6 storyline maps and all are relatively small. Loadtimes on maps are also incovienent, time between loads should be increased. -------------

there's an auto-aim option: low(you have to keep the crosshair on the enemy, for FPS fans) medium(for normal people) high(you only have to aim in the general direction of the enemy, for people with the reflexes of a garden snail, like Akita T... OR people playing the xbox version) ----------------------- forum ate my post again |

Note even on low if you aim and hit the target your skills are still rolled to see if you do damage or even hit.

Hey, it's an RPG game. The basis is that you enjoy the dialogue and the relationship your character develops with other ones. Personally I loved the game. But it can't be compared with EVE in the sense that they are two completly different genres.
About it not being like KoTOR, Who cares? It's called evolving and trying new things.

that sounds stupid as ****
pointing a gun at something and OOOPS you have low skills you missed!
also barely sounds like an rpg to me, just a third person shooter with a storyline, adding levels to stuff just sounds like a pain in the ass.
(although it could be argued that every game is an rpg, its just that to me at least, rpg is a more specific category such as the final fantasy series.)

Well the story and dialouge aswell as the main and sidequests is what I'll be playing this game for.. Combat doesn't seem too exciting, would have prefered a combat system Similar to KOTOR, and there are no melee weapons.. :(
