I wish I could get a loan like this in real life. To start, no I don't want a cookie. Just posting something in the morning for people to read and "spread the word" per my bank loaners advice.
I am sitting in Empire, when I see in local chat "anybody need a loan" which I first ignore but then after no real serious replies from anyone of the other 60+ in local, I say sure I need a loan.
So he private convo's me and here is the chat. *Note: I changed his character's name to Mr. Moneybags so I hope their isn't anyone in EVE with this name. I just wanted to pay homage to the Monopoly game.
Kage Toshimado > o/ Mr. Moneybags > hello sir Mr. Moneybags > how may i help you today Kage Toshimado > when do I have to pay it back by? And how much interst? Mr. Moneybags > depends on the amount you borrow Mr. Moneybags > how much do you need Kage Toshimado > 100million would by me the bs I need Kage Toshimado > I lost my last ship doing level 4's Mr. Moneybags > ok and what do you do for a living Kage Toshimado > mainly run lvl 4's or rat Mr. Moneybags > full time Kage Toshimado > where I was ratting got too many reds Mr. Moneybags > ok Mr. Moneybags > can you handel a 20 30 40 or 60 day Mr. Moneybags > term Kage Toshimado > 20 should be no problem, lets go with 30 though just to be safe Mr. Moneybags > ok 30 days at a flat rate of 18% for the entire term Kage Toshimado > 16% ? Mr. Moneybags > will that be doable Kage Toshimado > okay cool Kage Toshimado > I just like to haggle Kage Toshimado > hehe Mr. Moneybags > you pay a total of 11mil at the end of the month (11 million! OKAY!) Kage Toshimado > ok Mr. Moneybags > 118 (Oh well...) Mr. Moneybags > oops Mr. Moneybags > bad keyboard Kage Toshimado > you mean 116 Mr. Moneybags > 18% Mr. Moneybags > i can do 16% Kage Toshimado > okay Kage Toshimado > its 2 million not that big a deal Kage Toshimado > 18% is fine Mr. Moneybags > but youl have to promis to spread the word after you pay off Mr. Moneybags > ok Mr. Moneybags > okokok Kage Toshimado > okay Mr. Moneybags > lets do this first i need an eve mail from you for the amount you need and the term and ship you will buy with it Kage Toshimado > ok Kage Toshimado > now? Mr. Moneybags > as soon as your ready for the isk Mr. Moneybags > now if you want Kage Toshimado > ok I sent one Mr. Moneybags > ok give me a sec Kage Toshimado > my lag is bad oof Mr. Moneybags > ok 118 mil due in 30 days Kage Toshimado > I got it Kage Toshimado > Thanks
Now, if he had done even the slightest bit of research. He probably could have easily come to the conlusion that I am a high risk bank investment. Much like I am in real life. But since he didn't, I am 100 million richer... and he's probably going to send me an EVE mail in 30 days notifying me of my default on payment... Meh. I think I'll just BLOCK him now. I don't like letters from banks telling me I owe them ISK.

Nice story, lol :)
When I had more ISK than today I thought about giving loans to ppl for interest, but quickly figured out that exactly that would happen.
Well, dumb people have to learn the hard way I guess

The thought that he could be an ISK buyer only crossed my mind this morning as I was typing this up. The worst I can get hit for is the 100 million he loaned me I would guess. I have more than that in my wallet to cover it. So I won't be at a negative balance even if this turned out to be an issue.

Good point about paying back the loan, and then asking for 200 million. Or, he could just get his alt to ask for 100 million ISK too.

As funny as this is my guess would be that he'll have given up on the loan buisiness by then. After nobody pays him back that is. _______________

Not bad at all. I was luckier once tough, long ago by now, spent it all on lost ships.
A guy was bragging in local how he's rich and how I'm poor. I was messing with some other guys in front of station, but when they undocked a thanatos decided to dock. Out of nowhere a trade window opens. About 950 million isk appears in it.
Rather confused I hover the cursor over accept and catch myself gripping the pc table with the other hand while maniacally staring at the place on the screen where other person's accept ticker was supposed to appear. Heared my own heart beat etc etc. All of a sudden there's the ticker. Boy was I fast to return the favour. 1 bil richer, epic smack ensued (by the guy's CEO, not the guy himself - turned out it was corp money he was given to do some pos stuff) but unfortunately that was 4 windows installations and 2 hard disks before so have no record of it any more.
It turned out he wanted to show me how much money he had. He claimed to have pressed accept by accident because he got a convo invitation as soon as he opened trade so he pressed enter. Convo invitation by me, which according to him is exploit and because of which he petitoned me. I sent him no convo invitation whatsoever of course. It's way to intelligent for me, plus it probably wouldn't work since pressing enter would accept the said invitation not trade. Anyway, was a great laugh.
In the end I didnt really scam him, I just pressed accept button after he did, and he did so on his own free will without me in any way asking or making him, can't say it was anything grand on my part. But still funny as hell and becoming 1 bil richer always feels nice.

I already thought the war dec thing through. Mr. Moneybags is in an alliance btw. One I have never heard of. So if they do war dec me, or go around war deccing multiple people who they have loaned ISK to, its going to cost them a pretty penny. Same if they hire mercs.

Edited by: Agor Dirdonen on 06/06/2008 20:13:41 Well, these loan contracts can be tricky.... so the joke 'might' be on you (depends on how the contract is set up).
As I read through your story, I notice that the following is agreed: 100 mil lent now 116 mil to be returned
So I guess he set up a following contract?: Case 1 Price: 116 million Money lent: 100 million
If this is correct, he stole 16 mil from you :-).
If the contract was set up as follows: Case 2 Price 16 mil Money Lent: 100 mil
then you're lucky and you gained 84 mil.
Now, in case 1, why would you have lost 16 mil? Here's why: The price for the contract is 116 Mil, this is the amount you have to pay when accepting the contract. You get in return 100 mil that you have to return (or decide to keep).
Because you already payed him 116 mil and got 100 mil in return for that, you'll never be able to make a profit from it. Whatever you do, don't return the 100 mil or he got 116 mil from you :-)
If it's case 2, you're a lucky fella

It's Case 3 actually. Like the poster above noted, he sent me 100 million ISK directly. There was no contracts involved. Just an email to him, then a direct deposit into The Bank of Kage. There wasn't even a wire transfer fee.

Assumption 1 - He actually used a loan contract. As you saw, that was wrong.
Assumption 2 - You also assumed that there was sufficient collateral on the loan to make him consider repaying it. If sufficient collateral was put down, do you really think he would be talking about it ?
And if the collateral is small, why would he want to repay the loan ?

Because this was (maybe still used once in a while) a favorite scam. Talk people into accepting a 118 mil price for a 100 mil loan (18 percent right?) and people accepted it... even for much bigger prices.
On the other hand.... there are people that pay back loans you know. Not between two random people but in-corp or in-alliance, the loan contract is used, even without collateral.
I never understand why you would take a loan from someone while giving collateral that covers the money lent. Especially for lower amounts. Instead of loaning money, sell what you wanted to use as collateral, use that money, when you have enough money again, buy that item again.

If this was trough contracts wouldn't the money be taken from his wallet after 30 days, even though if he has none, he would just go in negative balance?

There was no collateral. The agreement was that 118 million ISK was to be paid at the end of the 30-day term. No mention was ever made of collateral, as a matter of fact. It was a matter of interest. If he never pays the man back, he's simply 100 million ISK richer.

So very many 'would-be-hard-men' in Eve. Even if you do use the "I'll come after you" threat there is nothing to stop your mark; 1) Playing on another character. 2) Taking a break from Eve. 3) Going about their business in high-sec where griefing them will be expensive and pretty darn boring. 4) Out-blobbing you and making you look like a right fool.

I'd recomend you pay this guy back... or at least have the money on hand.
He is obviously NOT an idiot, and has done this thing before; and will have some sort of guarantee that he can get the money off you, or at least make you suffer for it.
If he is in an alliance, the way he will do it is through Mercs, and Mercs can be awfully efficient at what they do.
So in essence, I want to be there when your BS goes >Pop<

That golbal pool of money could have invested in infrastructure and better schools to improve the lives of stupid people like you. But no all gone. Thats why you are going to starve to death because the price of rice has doubled.

I have a better idea, why don't you tell YOUR children? Mine already know.
It's not about just being a thief though guy, it's helping out my fellow pirates. I have had at least 15 people contact me in game wanting this guy's name and I have gladly given it.
Oh and another thing, turn off your CPSA charges please. One guy actually wanted me to send him the name and he had a 1 million CPSA charge. He's the only one I haven't responded to. You got to work with me a little people.
It's gone now. Send please.
