Are these Embedded Reports doing live reporting, or is their material published on a delay (ie at downtime) so that they cannot "affect the action around them" by providing intelligence to either force?

Heheh, embedded reporters! Good idea!
I like the increased number of news stories in recent times, that was an awesome change to the game. My only complaint is that the in-game browser only seems to be able to display 5 news items, and often when I come back from work and log on, I've missed news because too much has happened and they've scrolled past the bottom of the window.
That kinda sucks, btw. We enjoy reading them as much as you guys enjoy writing them. Fix the news browser / in-game browser to display more than 5 news items, please.

Yeah, were all too painfully aware of the limitations of the IGB with our new output of news. Hopefully we can get this fixed soon!

I second this, it makes the games "feel" less static.

When you say "no way whatsoever to affect the battle around them" (paraphrased) ... does this mean they can't be bumped and can't be used to bump other ships ... and won't cause me to get caught when I'm trying to manouver or warp?
In other words, I can see them but I can't affect them and then can't affect me ... I'll pass right through them.

So they cannot 'bump' other ships either? And will the new media shuttles have new models/textures? -

First of all, folks, thanks for the encouraging words about the increased number of news articles! I'll pass the praise onto the hard working reporters
Originally by: Ki Tarra Are these Embedded Reports doing live reporting, or is their material published on a delay (ie at downtime) so that they cannot "affect the action around them" by providing intelligence to either force?
Well, the idea is that a reporter will fly with a faction and provide news to that faction. To this end, there maybe some degree of intelligence involved behind the news reports however this is no more than could be found out and passed on in traditional corporation and alliance warfare (pilots reporting about an op they were on to their alliance forums, f.ex).
Reporters aren't in the business of intelligence, they're in the business of news. Since the reporter is part of a news corporation that is part of the faction, I doubt they'd want to risk harm coming to that faction by posting something that could be used by a spy belonging to the other side! Because of this, and many other reasons, I don't think it's necessary to "time delay" the faction news.
Hope that answers your question!

Indeed the game would improve so much if the RP guys just started coding. I'm sure they are equally competent at all tasks. They even have volunteers so it should be cheap developers.

Someone suggested that perhaps you could partner up with Opera (or another browser company) to upgrade the ingame browser. Perhaps you should look into this as a properly working ingame browser would be a great addition. (Along with proper forums that you can read from that browser).

Could we get a list of what 'media' corporations these embedded reporters are representing? Is the State's media corp Echelon News (ENEWS)? or NOH News Network (N3)?
Will these reporters be encouraged to be in character reporters?
If for example a Federation reporter and a State reporter report on the same event I would expect their reports to have different spin.

I don't have an answer on this right now but it's not something we're ignoring.

No. They are required to be in character!

That's exactly the idea of having reporters aligned with each faction. The articles are going to be coloured by the support that the reporter has for their faction but will not be outright biased or contain fallicies in exactly the same way that the news of any country will try to paint that country in a good light in comparison to others whilst still trying to report facts.

A good idea.
Maybe in future upgrades of factional warfare you can implement a news & intelligene tab?
With a full archive of news and with also intelligence on systems like defence/offensive status and such things? Links to news related to this system would be neat then also.

Whilst I can't really answer the game design stuff there, there is already a facility to view news associated with a system when you look at the article through the Player News Center out of game; have a look at the links on the top right of the article. I'll talk to people to see if we can get this working in-game as well.

Great!!
What I had in mind though was more like a map where you can move your mouse and hover over a system and it pops up some news. Like the current map that it shows the items in orbit. Or when you chose some statistics (e.g. kills in the last 24 hours) and hover over a system it shows details accordingly to the statistics (e.g. 54 kills).
Maybe that will become available with news one day also? That you chose from map 'news' and the systems are highlighted which have recent news and if you hover the mouse over it you will get pop-up of the news headlines.
Ah, just an idea for the future
Reporters are good in any case. They will spice up things! And especially that they belong to the factions so that they are biased a bit

No its quite patently obvious there is a profound skill deficit at CCP, when the devs count adding a dysfunctional search feature to the forums three years after the fact and count it as an achievement to the game, we have a problem.
It is for this reason that they should focus their energies on modest projects like ship balancing and stop distracting their players with fluff. Lets take a look at the history of fluff projects:
Quote: Evetv: failed. EVE CCG: failed. EON: embarrassing copy paste of forum materials, fail. Mapbooks: selling features that should be available in game more elegantly, fail.
With a track record like this its patently obvious it is you who is selfish and wants the best for yourself while I only want CCP to be successful doing what it does best: spaceship combat. ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

Yeah the search sucks. You make it sound as if they threw confetti and blew the air horns in celebration when search was released. It was never presented as an achievement. It was merely presented as "here's a feature we have implemented. Hopefully it works". You're making up things and presenting arguments against those. Where did you learn to troll?
Yeah we have a problem: Bad forum search. That's minor crap. The web development team of CCP sucks, big deal. The web dev team doesn't do design, they don't work on coding up the eve engine.
What's your point here? The game is bad because the forum search sucks?

Just because you didn't like EveTV, EveCCG doesn't mean that it failed. EveTV was a project started by the players of Eve and matured onto something done by MMM Publishing, supported by CCP. Game design devs were not involved in EveTV except for the occasional interview.
EON, EveTV == MMM Publishing. The person in-charge of EON was Zapatero, a person from MMM. CCP Marketing was working with EveTV and EON. Not Game Design devs. Hopefully the logic is clear enough.
This is a Role Playing Game. Factional Warfare is a big aspect of that. Just because you don't like roleplaying doesn't mean it is fluff. There are plenty of people who love the roleplay and missions aspect of Eve.
The maps are made by Serenity Steele, a player. CCP is just selling them through their store. That is not fluff. That is what marketing people do. That is what game design devs don't do.
If you don't like how certain ships are balanced then don't use them. Stop trolling and dragging things off-topic. If you don't like how CCP is making Eve, quit.
