This thread will be used to report bugs in the new IGB. This new browser implementation is be part of the upcoming Shiva branch. You can test this browser without access to a Shiva server.
The new IGB will not display all pages. You will still need to design special pages for it but it is improved in many ways. A preliminary documentation is available here.
Features of the new IGB: various fonts and font attributescolors (even transparency)divs and tablesall kind of background images and colorspng, gif, jpeg, tiff, bmp imagesformsCSS1/2 (very pure pseudo class support)various special EVE client commands
The new IGB does not and will never support: JavaScript/JavaFlashdownload of files
A good collection of sample test pages can be found here. Please report all bugs you find, but don't report site xyz is not working without adding a reason.

There is support for these color abbreviations. Can you give me an example where it does not work?
Gladly. The following should be hideous blue on red text for the whole page, but is simply white-on-black. Substituting #ff0000 and #0000ff corrects that. Adding an alpha channel has no effect, nor does changing background-color to background.
body{ background-color:#f00; color:#00f; }
(Incidentally, the new IGB rocks. I'm really looking forward to writing for it.)
EDIT: Looking at this again, there may be more going on. I'm getting some odd results, so I'll take some time later to figure out how to recreate this. It may be due to an odd document structure or something. I'll let you know when I track it down. |

Non-standard use of alt attribute:
Alt Attribute
Title Attribute
The alt attribute is used for alternate text in case the image does not load.
The title attribute is used for the tooltip, etc.
It would be best if the IGB used standard HTML rendering.

The rendering of "alt" attributes as tooltips has technical reasons. It is not possible to render text only in a well defined area without a lot of overhead. The rendering of alt text might change but it is hard to make sure the whole text is visible. Personally, i think the tooltip is a good solution.

I see.
Still, I suggest that the title attribute be used for tooltips instead of alt.
In this case, alt -> title. So we use title for title functionality, rather than alt for title functionality.
So at least IGB site designers will start using the title attribute for tooltips, rather than alt, which is only supposed to be used for broken image placeholders. (Microsoft and IE crushed appropriate alt usage, and made title a forgotten attribute) |

Edited by: Markek on 11/05/2004 17:26:17 Can you make that browser window non-transparent?
It's hard to read all the things we put into pages when the background is showing the EVE logo rotation at the back with all the stars as background...
I can see better load times and no errors downloading big pages. Nice
edit: And whats the link to upgrade from 1514 to 1515? has it any browser updates? --- There are 10 kinds of guys: - Those who understand binary. - Those who not. ---

Edited by: Mjolnir on 11/05/2004 22:40:47 HTML rendering errors: 1) When you visit a site that is IGB compatable, then visit a site that isnt example www.google.com. The browser attempts to render the new page and fails, but if you scroll down part of the old page is still visable.
2) Missing horizontal scroll when image/text is greater in size then the IGB windows width

I think this only happens if the page, referred in href, is not displayable. Error handling will be improved later.

If you write direcctly the href on the dir bar the page shown correctly. the problem is when the link is inside a table. I have tested a lot of links and they work in all cases tested but when inside a TD
you have an example here: http://www.anodyne-eve.com/minisite/ --- There are 10 kinds of guys: - Those who understand binary. - Those who not. ---

I don't think so. Since frames are not used on sites since there are allways loading problems (server related) with them. --- There are 10 kinds of guys: - Those who understand binary. - Those who not. ---

Thought this would be the best place to ask:
Will the IGB support Flash sometime in future?
I'm just curious.

I really, really, really doubt it :) Hell, they don't even support HTML4 yet, and that's just static content :)
Speaking of which, any cookie support coming up soon?

CCP will not add Flash support, for sure. Flash has nothing to do with HTML.

Mine won't even load properly, and yes I'm aware of how to do the whole second copy, patch update blah blah. All I get is all the buttons stacked together, and the thing sucks all my RAM until i'm down to 0mb free .
Now that I have figured out how to get past the EULA, the login screen has no buttons, no text, just a VERY juddery EVE logo, which doesn't matter much, but also pressing ctrl+alt+shift+b does nothing :(
The buttons are all still there, but you can't see them, as the cursor changed to text input etc as I hovered the mouse around.
Anyone else had this problem? ================

Edited by: Hawk Firestorm on 19/05/2004 14:02:29 Font Test 4 fails totally.
Performance test is very slow indeed even on adsl, especially scrolling.
Browser Still has transparency even unpinned, which can make pages hard to read.
Personally other than basic ingame info pages it's not a feature I value much, as it's simple enough to use the systems fully featured browser, though measures to parse URL's etc to IE from in game would definately be a good feature for those that wish to use the client in that manner.

I hope so, that is one of the Headers I asked for too. There is nothing more revealing in the charID that the browser could pass, than what I can get just going to the Forums and looking at character posts. But I would like to have that data passed, it would allow me to pull it in and pass it to the character portrait generator on CCP's site. I could pull a copy of the character portrait and use that to build Badges and such on a local copy once I got the orriginal pic. There are lots of other uses for that data too, lets hope we get to see it added.
On a side note, Can we get the User agent in the new browser changed? it is currently set as... HTTP_USER_AGENT == "Python-urllib/2.1"
The old IGB passed the following... HTTP_USER_AGENT == "EVE-minibrowser/2.0a1"
How about passing... HTTP_USER_AGENT == "EVE-minibrowser/2.1" -or- HTTP_USER_AGENT == "EVE-minibrowser/3.0"
just a thought.

Yeah browser agent id change would be good, and I was thinking the same thing for user pic grabbing to obtain member portraits.
Oh another thing, I would very much so like to be able to test showinfo:, so would adding a connection to chaos for the shiva igb be an option that would allow the request of showinfo data, or maybe change it to read the games cache to pull the information?

Passing the char id should be no problem - if there is nothing against it, it will be added in the next build.
The show info function will be limited to stuff that is available on the LIVE server anyway. It will not allow you to pull data from any item. It just opens the show info window and displays the item like the normal show info would do.

Hi,
is there an overview about the client commands IGB (new and old) can use to query informations about the game (also if they are not working currently)? I know the "old" one can use the EVE headers for some basic informations (name, station, corp, corprole, ...)
Thanks
PS: I think it was mentioned before but transparency in gif and png doesnt work |

Yes it would be nice to know if there is more than showinfo: and evemailto:.
Oh and Traveler, showinfo just like looking in market and clicking the little blue link that pops up a item info box? If so do the numbers corospond with the item id's for each item or is it a new id set?

More of a feature request to be passed on to dev's if it's possible, tables to have added background image support, and maybe a function called bookmark:x:y:z:"name of bookmark":"bookmark description"?

Well, the x,y,z bookmark function is exactly what we will never support because it introduces an easy way to exploit. You could simply do a triangulation of your enemy and create a bookmark to warp to him this way. Therefor this "feature" will not be available.

Will it be possible to send evemails without userinteraction ? For example after a user changed some content in a database, or ordered an item or something like that the website should be able to send a confirmation evemail to the user and a ToDo-evemail for the responsible corpmember / admin etc.
The problem i see here is how should the system determine the sender. A solution could be to implement an "eveautoresponder" which could be used for that purpose. So everyone getting an evemail from "eveautoresponder" knows that this is a autogenerated evemail.

Ok, I could see that being a possible exploit, what about a bookmark id system of an existing bookmark (bookmark:id0001), as it would simplify a corporations use of handing out locations. Sure beats making 20 copies of 1 bookmark and handing them out if you can just have an ID for that mark. Would that be possible? :p
(using a bookmark id over making 20 meta copies may very well save on db space aswell as make some corporations lives easyer)
