my data pool is not exactly very large but it seems that mission are not at all random
I. the impression:
1. i have high empire standing, so i was able to play lvl 4 missions with 0 corp standing. after running missions for the same agent for several weeks, i did not get a single instance of duo of death / angel extravaganza, and then, right after i reach corp standing 9 or so i start getting these. (this was a few days ago so it has nothing to do with the temp removal of angel extravaganza a month or two ago)
2. along the way, i seems to get a lot of mission "blocks" i.e. peroids where i will constantly get 'the assult' or some other missions back to back, or even three times in a row
II the problem.

No idea for 1 . About mission blocks or pools (i like pool ) my observation (sp?) there are 2 main pools for caldari mission runners first with assault and other guristas missions , second with drone /sansha (massive attack-score-unauthorized mil. presence ) and merc missions (stop the thief -damsel in distress) ,probably AE/GE /silence the informant/rogue slave trader at another pool Yes it is not good running same missions in same circle

The missions seem to cycle around a lot. Some days I get tons of missions against the Serpentis, other days I get tons of missions against the Amarr and Caldari, others Rogue Drones. I don't have a problem with this. ------------

Moving stations and corps also doesnt seem to change this, was running for 4 weeks lvl4 for fed navy fed up with same missions moved to sukuuvesta corp(dif race) and hey ho same missions. May actually start keeping some sort of record/database to compliment eve-survival.

I don't suppose it could have anything to do with the recent reintroduction of Angel Extravaganza? The missions should be largely random short of an askewment against getting the same mission you just denied again. Parrots, commence!

from what I unstand each agent generates a list of missions semi randomly based on the Location of avalible "Grids" to that agent, and then hands them out as you ask for them.
Incidentaly Statistical clustering will tend to creat random streches where you get nothing but one specific mission. heck role a D-6 (6 sided dice) a few dozen times and plot the numbers then look at how often you get back to back to back 6s. ***** **** Trust Aura. Aura is Your Friend.

I still think the game simply rotates the frequency of missions on a daily basis. Today I've had In the Midst of Deadspace (5 parts vs Amarr/Caldari) three times, along with Pot and Kettle (another 5 parter against Amarr) and a total of eight other level 4 missions against Amarr. I've only had four missions against Serpentis today. Based on past experience, I am fairly sure that I could come back tomorrow and have tons of missions against the Serpentis (or Angels or whatever the flavor of the day is) and none against the Amarr. ------------

Here is my personal theory.
The agent has a rotation of missions available to different standing blocs.
It cycles through these, giving the first mission to the first person who asks for a mission in that standing bloc, then the second, third, etc. When it runs out of missions, it shuffles them, and starts handing them back out. Also, different missions occur more than one time in the group, and some missions arent even in that group.

It seems simpler than this. There is a pool of available missions. If not accepted (clogging your agent is NOT accepted) the mission is still in the pool, and missions in the pool get offered round robin. These pools vary by agent type and faction, and should contain multiple instances of various missions.
I've had 5 or 6 alts clog up with the exact same mission from the same agent. My record is 7 Retributions in a row on the same character. I understand random number distributions -- but getting duplicate missions more often than not is not random. It definitely seems like I can increase my odds of repeating a mission I like by turning in a mission and then hitting 'back' and 'got any work?' quickly, and decrease the odds of identical mission offers by waiting 10+ seconds.
This may also explain why farmable missions are rare, and the garbage factional, drone and 80km travel x 3 gates missions show up over and over and over and over and over.
The way to use this to your advantage: if you get a good mission offered from an agent do not accept it, but immediately pull from that agent with all your alts. Chances are very good you'll get several copies of it available to accept when ready.

Well having ran an agent a lot recently, I see at max four mission types and it's common I see Recon maybe four times in a row. Even on lower level agents I still get Recon all the damn time (at least free shuttle gets some use), and failing that it's Massive Attack. Not had the pleasure of AE yet but still holding up my hopes. When it comes to storyline missions, I am not sure how many their are as I get Materials for War Preparation almost every time...
