I setup a gank cane with very high tracking to test the amount of wrecking hits.
Combat Your 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II perfectly strikes Serpentis Sa***uard, wrecking for 416.9 damage. ( fac emp at 7k)
Combat Your 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II perfectly strikes Serpentis Watchman, wrecking for 359.0 damage. (barrage at 15k)
Combat Your 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II perfectly strikes Serpentis Guard, wrecking for 436.3 damage. (hail at 3k)
Probably not the greatest wreckings and i havent had time to test them in pvp yet as im sure resistence and situation will change things but my rate of wrecking has defenitly increasd alot
3x tracking rigs 2x best named or t2 tracking computers/tracking scripts
doesnt leave much room for tackle and you cant do the faverd 20k falloff but in small fleet battles where u can afford to get up close and personal it wont be all that bad i think

I am fairly sure EvE will not allow you to go "crit crazy" like WoW. At best you're wrecking hits are offset by lower damage hits to average to your ships theoretical max dps.

Wreckings are like 1% of your shots. Nothing you can do to improve it.
When you "roll" a wrecking it hits for max damage x3, minus resists.

(IIRC)
"scratch" = modifer x ammo x 0.5 "light" = modifier x ammo x 0.75 "hit" = modifier x ammo x 1.0 "excellent hit" = modifier x ammo x 1.5 "wrecking" = modifier x ammo x 3
So a wrecking is twice an excellent, and 3 times a regular hit. I'm not 100% on the multipliers for scratch and light, though I'm quite positive on the others. Obviously this isn't taking resists into account anywhere, but since it's multiplication it doesn't really matter. At a guess, if you were to sit there and lay into something for hours on end, average hit value would have somewhere around a 1.25 multiplier.
All you can do to increase your wrecking chance is keep inside optimal with as little transversal as possible.
edit: incidentally, there's such a thing as heavy hits, though I can't recall seeing anything but drones doing them. Guessing they're somewhere around 1.25x

The damage you deal is randomly (but long-term evenly) spread from aprox *0.5 to *1.5 base damage (the higher quality ones dissapear first as your chance to hit decreases), and wrecking (*3 base damage) shots are ALWAYS at most 1% of your total shots (if your chance to hit reaches 1% or below, all your hits that connect will be wreckings).
You can do absolutely nothing to improve the chance to get wrecking shots. You can only get lucky with the random number generator.
Before you ask, I did test that. On tens of thousands of shots under controlled circumstances.

Wrecking hits are factored into your DPS I believe, along with every other hit.
So there is really no way for you to get lucky and wreck like, 20 times in a row (it's fixed by the game).

Yep, I love that 1% chance, I've hit at 32km with large AM blasters due to wrecking hits (for over 500 damage too) and it *always* surprises interceptor pilots when they suddenly disintegrate while orbiting a blaster fit battleship.

So was probabl coinsidence that i got so many wreckings in such a short time then..
Does high tracking atleast give u a better chance to make exellent hits then?

Wonder if it'd be possible to give assault frigates a bonus on the 'to hit' or critical roll. Might be more interesting than a simple damage bonus and a 5-10% wrecking change instead of a 1% would make people uneasy whenever they see a AF... -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds
