Originally by: Kirex Sorry to hear that, but naming and shaming is all you can do. :/ Would be great if CCP adds a "contract" style option for ransoming so you can see who honors their ransoms and not. As said earlier, try contacting his CEO. If that doesn't work, theres nothing much you can do.
The majority of pirates honor their ransoms, you just hear about the ones that don't.
As he said, you should always name people that pod you after failing to uphold a ransom. The reason why is because you atleast hurt their pocket. No one will ever accept a ransom from the person if people know the person in question doesn't uphold them. So in the end, you can have the last laugh and the person will be forced to just gank.

Originally by: DubanFP Most pirates won't break a ransom. Don't mistake it for something silly like honor. It's just consider poor buisiness practice to break ransoms. It results in players like you being afraid to accept another ransom because of bad experience in the past. So it makes things tougher for all pirates, including the ransom breaker.
SIGNED,
Honour has nothing to do with it and being a 'real' pirate surely doesn't mean acting like some kinda romantic novel chevalesque Robin Hood.. If you want a good definition of a 'real' pirate then read this wiki just replace naval, sea or maritime by 'space' and it pretty much sums it up. On a side note it is my personal experience that pilots being ransommed while still in their vessel mostly prefer to set off self-destruct rather than eject and those next to their wreck always wait as long as possible to reply, followed by some smacktalk while desperatly crawling back to the gate and then start crying about wanting to pay while theyre pod is being squished due to non cooperative response or after. I have no mercy for such hypocrites. On the other hand, a pilot crying out for a ransom before his ship is killed defenatly should be cargo-scanned or at least made to eject if not shot regardless 'cause people only do that if they carry a fortune. Those who's clone is loaded with high-grade implants are A) immediatly cooperative and will pay without hesitation B) plain stupid and/or emo

Darn! The mod deleted the best parts of this thread. Oh well, guess they are only doing their job.
But more to the point, always expect to get podded after paying a ransom, you'll feel better. OR send the pirate a convo and ask him how much he wants since your wife is having a baby and you have to go! Maybe he'll be nice enough to let you go!

Another think i learned recently, if you catch someone, there is a possibility that he has got local closed, and if you ransom him in local, he will take it as a ransom not offered. Then get mad at you. -------------

I do both, it depends on what is fitted, and whether you are nice to me during the encounter. If you smack me a lot, I will blow your ass outta the sky. If you are nice, and I can make only 20m from the gear, you are likely to be free to go.

TFS "honors" their ransoms when its given, that being said... We don't give ransoms often, we like the killmail more.

On piracy-honour: Some corps don't care for it, others do. Most people tend to side with the latter, it's really up to you.

There is honor in piracy, however I normally forget to fit the cargo expanders to hold it all.

Honor in pirating? No. When you pay that ransom, there is a chance you'll be released, but no guarantee. Also, watch the wording. Me and some of my guys ran into a Hyperion ratting in Metropolis the other day, I convo'd the guy said "Give me 50m" and nothing else. He gave me the ISK and we blew him up and received the tired rant of 'honor' in local soon after. I never said anything about not destroying his ship, I simply asked for ISK :) ---------------------------------------

Any "pirate" who doesn't honor a ransom isn't a proper pirate, just a griefer flying the flag for kudos. The only time I'd treat a client like the OP was treated, is if they've been abusive, if 6 of their corp suddenly appear in local, or if they've done something equally dastardly to me in the past. -------------------------------------------------- Fancy a cup of tea, sir? |

Well, I hung up my pirating boots a long time (4 weeks) ago... but I never dishonored a ransom. Come to think of it... I never ransomed anybody
Now I got a new calling... the farmers must be stopped, but before I go I'm going to do the honorable thing and suicide gank one last Hulk. This time I'm going to smartbomb the pod

Remember, there's a difference in being ransomed and throwing money down in hopes they'll take it and let you go
The difference is... one lets you live

I find its usually carebears who don't honour ransoms/1v1's (hello Trax Darkstorm)
Usually a well known corp whether it be pirate or not, will honour them.

Ransoms normally make more income than popping a ship, dishonoring ransoms means a bad rep and people then don't pay.
For our corp and many others its not just about honor but the ability to make isk.
Sensible buisness practice really.

Unless it's a well-known corp or a player I never, ever pay ransoms (generally my response will be to set my self destruct ). If I'm on the giving end I never offer them either.

We will "honour" ransoms, because it's good for business to do so, not because of any sense of it being "honourable"
Would you like to know more? |
