I have been having to deal with something my brothers got on our home network called "marioforever.exe" mcafee keeps saying its removing the files, but it wont delete it permanently since they keep getting made and deleted. Anyone heard about this before? or know what to do? All it seems to do according to different anti virus sites is send bogus printing jobs to your printer and waste money. It will copy to all shared folders on the network and thats how it infects all the other computers. Any tips are appreciated. 1. Uninstall mcafee, it is garbage. 2. Download and install AVG free 3. If this doesn't work, try bitdefender. 4. If this doesn't work, cry, or try some other free trials. 5. ??? 6. Profit!

Haha,
The first result I opened up regarding this, is a guy posting about how he has a virus that makes his printers print garbage.
That's awesome.
Best virus ever.

I have not experienced any of the illeffects of this. I realize where the virus came from now and I feel ******** because I should know better. I accidently opened a file I had DL'd before scanning it. *Smacks forehead* STUPID STUPID STUPID!! and now its on most the computers. Has anyone else ever done something this dumb? Norton says they can remove it and provide instructions to do so.
I know Kapersky has a free trial version and they are pretty solid (although expensive). Bet they could kill it too.
AVG is meh but free.

I was working for a client several years ago that got zapped with a Worm. I kept a close lock on the network and had warned them that the very few (one in particular) laptop users who kept his laptop out of our control was a risk but they ignored me. Sure enough he let his kids play with it and the downloaded the Worm which he brought into the office.
The damn thing was killer. Shut down out network totally. I scanned and cleaned some and it re-installed. I turned off numerous PCs scanned and it re-installed. I finally yanked every wire out of our switches, went one computer to the next to scan and it REINSTALLED! Finally Microsoft (that very day) released a patch that closed the exploit this was using. Called every engineer in my company over, yanked every wire out of the switches again, burned 20 CDs with all the fixes and we ran around till 3am cleaning every freaking PC in the company.
That got it. The CEO was ****ed at first and ready to kill me for not doing my job till he saw in the paper the next day that something like 65% of all Fortune 500 companies had been shut down by this. That and I had several memos telling of the security risk that laptop posed. After that he figured I did a good job all things considered.
But I tell ya...give me 10 minutes in a room with no consequences for my actions with the dude who programmed that...won't be pretty!

When fixing my friends and family's computers from trojan and worm attacks, I use Reg-Run. You get the first 30 days free, so DL it and run it. Dont be freaked when the computer restarts as it is at that time its clearing all infections and then it restarts again normally. Just un-install after that. I've yet to find an infection it cant clean fully first time round.
Good luck

Why? Sounds like he's a pretty talented programmer.
The tool with the laptop who believes that security policy doesn't apply to him, or the boss and other executives who routinely ignore IT advice and warnings, however... they're fair game.

Um, no. Also, Godwin's Law.
It's more like blaming the person who got blown up in low-sec after ignoring the warning box. If you take the appropriate precautions you can be safe from %99 of viruses and worms. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

If you have an windows xp cd and an alternate computer, I recommend making yourself a boot cd. I use one called Bart PE. This will let you boot your computer off the CD into a windows environment without reading from the hard drive. This means that none of the viruses will be running or loaded into memory, which makes them easier to smite. You can often just delete the relevant files.
I generally use it along with clamwin antivirus on a memory stick. You can update it from the net and then use it right off the stick. Along with the boot CD it'll help you smite all sorts of things. Fix relatives computers for fun and profit!
pro tip: Owning your own boot cd will not help you pick up chicks.
